The treatment on here of Marcus Rashford

In what way is the OP embarrassing?
You quoted three posts that were fairly reasonable. You might not agree with them which is fine but they weren't of the "Rashbeck" or "Wouldn't start at Newcastle" variety.

You then said, his performances on the field are unequalled by anyone else in the current squad. That would be a true statement for Bruno or Shaw, certainly not Rashford.

The last bit is really where it got embarrassing. Rashford is no legend, at least not yet and putting him in the same sentence as Best, Law and Charlton was quite ridiculous. I hope it was just tongue in cheek but with what came before it, I couldn't give you the benefit of the doubt.

I don't agree with OP btw, got too carried away comparing to Legends and all that. But some of the criticism is downright hilarious.
Yeah, fair enough. And I agree some of it is, for sure. But he can do a lot better in general play than what he's shown. Much of which is down to his body not getting a rest or the required surgery of course. Suppose we just have to wait on that, and even if this IS his level it's hard to knock down just from the goal output side of things.

I just think he could do MUCH better than he's doing. And be one of the best players in the world while at it. A supreme talent but we want to see more consistency because we know he has the talent. He's entering the prime of his career. He does the harder things instinctively well, but the simpler things he needs to improve. Of course the stats are great, but there's plenty of gears to go up.

Yeah, he should improve his game, especially when it comes to making use of his teammates instead of just trying to take on multiple players most of the times. But like you said, he is winning us games, hopefully others step up too.
Right now without Rashford and Bruno, we are toothless in the attack.

In many ways, he reminds me of Giggs. Both local lads, came through the ranks, burst onto the 1st team at an early age, Both obviously love United and I can see Marcus staying here throughout his career as well. Both capable of sheer magic at times, but also prone to prolonged spells of bad decision making and some really frustrating performances.

Fortunately, I see Marcus as being a much better human being off the pitch.

Saying his performance was "horrific" I wouldn't call fairly reasonable.
"He was shit tonight " naaah not that either!

The 2 players you name have been great for us and have kept a high performance level. Definately agree with that! However in terms of effort, dedication, period of time, playing position etc I would say his performances are unequalled yes.

To say he's carried us is a bit too strong a word however he has taken a hell of a lot of responsibility on his shoulders being our sole attacking force for so long. He plays a role which is unbelievedly demanding physically which he is currently paying for.

Yes tongue in cheek to a certain extent!
but if you look at previous utd "legends" we're talking maybe players with 450+ apps for the club. There are exceptions of course Denis Law undoubtably a club legend with just over 300 apps.
Scholes 718 apps!

Compare the following stats:

Best (debut 17yrs) Rashford (18 yrs)
apps (goals in brackets)
1st season 26 (6) 18 (8)
2nd season 59 (14) 53 (11)
3rd season 43 (17) 52 (13)
4th season 45 (10) 47 (13)
5th season 53 (32) 44 (22)
6th season 48 (21) 47 (20) still going on

Note I'm not comparing Rashford with Best regarding skills. Regarding playing position apps and goals however there is definately a likness.

The Holy Trinity:
Law 309 apps 171 goals
Charlton 606 apps 199 goals
Best 470 apps 178 goals

Rashford still only 23 so why embarrassing?

I think we can overdo the amount of negativity about Rashford. Forums like this are a way for people to let off steam. Folk are more likely to have a good old winge than say how everything is good. It is human nature. So the criticism of Rashford i would take with a pinch of salt. These forums, especially on the match threads, tend to amplify criticism if a player has a bad game.

I am a huge Rashford fan. You cannot put a value on a local boy who is a top class player as he will always give that little bit more than anyone else. Against Grenada he was clearly less than 100pc and yet it was he that opened the scoring in an underwhelming team performance.

Now let us hope we can get his mate. - another local lad - Jesse Lingard back and get him concentrating on his football as he has done while performing at top levels for West Ham.

So you guys are ok coming in shouting in your face and calling me and others terrible posters after he scored a goal, accused of xenophobia and whatever else (dearie me) but won’t comment at all when his play clearly holds us back and he doesn’t score?

Come on guys! Let’s talk about this!

Didn’t he play well yesterday? Nice role in the equaliser and looked a lot sharper than the previous few matches, particularly given that he was on the right. Hopefully, he is nowhere near the team on Thursday though as he clearly still needs careful management and no more than a bench role at the weekend ideally.

Edit - just checked my player ratings. I gave him a 7, compared to 7.9 average for the team. Had a good game I thought without doing anything particularly special.

Playing well is a bit of a stretch, he did ok imo 6/10 in the 70 or so mins he played was involved in the nice bit of play that resulted in the Fred goal but outside of that wasn't involved all that much. Wouldn't take any notice of Ali seems to have a grudge to bare when regarding Rashford. The fact he's bumping threads at the slightest sub par performance is incredibly petty on honestly quite sad.

I thought his role in Fred’s goal was good. It’s been a while since he got the ball and laid it off like that. It was the correct decision. That was the only thing I thought he did yesterday and we came alive when he came off for Greenwood. I don’t think we need to be running him into the ground like this I don’t particularly think his performances warrant it either.

The guys been playing through the pain barrier with injections to help the side he loves.

Anybody who didn't care would have just said he's injured and sat on the sidelines collecting his money and waiting until he was 100% fit.

Not at all. I was accused of being racist and a terrible poster when Rashford scored on Thursday for trying to have the same conversation. Everyone is way quieter now for some reason. I just want to talk about our attacking play and the role Rashford currently plays in that. There’s nothing petty about it at all. Tagging me after he scores asking am I ok and then totally disappearing as the performance goes south, basically what I was saying in the first place, now that’s petty. Accusing someone of being racist because I’m not enjoying his performances is totally petty.

I daresay most reasonable posters would be annoyed at that. Let’s talk in good faith. The next time he plays really well I’ll be the first to say it. I’ll be very happy. Just because I support the club over any particular player and want us to play good football more often doesn’t mean I hate anyone.

He's looked like he's carrying some sort of knock/has a fitness issue for a while now but has still been playing a big amount of game time. Often played out of position on the Right too. He needs a summer off which he won't get.
I think he's a cracking player and a huge asset to the team.

Not talking about him playing injured is extremely stupid. Im guessing playing with a knock doesnt fit the petty narrative

well then he shouldn’t be playing injured because he’s playing really badly and breaking down our promising play far more often than any other forward player. he’s making us way more predictable than we need to be.

look at yesterday. Were we better or worse when he came off? I have no idea why ole keeps insisting on playing him at 75% not only is he totally predictable but he looks miserable then too on top of it.

Obviously he insists on playing like a lot of top players do even if they are far from 100%. The fact remains you lot who are criticize him conveniently forget he isnt 100% fit during games. Also he was played out of position does that not factor into your argument?

100% agree with you. Absolutely no need for continuing like this when he is poor enough that you have to bring him off. The 2 week international break also hasnt resolved whatever he is playing through either. Manager and player both to blame here.

Arsenal fan in the office telling me today how from the outside it seems like United fans really underrate what we have with Rashford.

I’ve always backed Rashford, you can see his development and dedication. Excellent professional as well a legend off the pitch.

He’s pushing for his best goal scoring season right now but many fans throughout the season seem to get on his back.

I can understand it with Martial, I’m totally done with him, but when it comes to Marcus there’s not the same lack of desire you see with Martial.
Even when he has poor games he’s involved, pushing and trying to make things happen. There’s a massive difference right there between those two players as an example.

are you guys just going to keep saying

But.... but..... he’s injured! He’s carrying us!

He’s playing horribly and he shouldn’t be getting run into the ground like this. Im starting think some posters would rather watch an injured Rashford score a goal or two than the penny drops and we actually play some good stuff like yesterday when he went off.

I would also agree with that. Martial's lack of effort and application is appalling. We should be looking to get rid of him and bring in a hungry CF

HE HAS SCORED 20 feckING GOALS THIS SEASON and according to you he is playing shit. Whatelse do you want from him?

"like when he went off" you dont have a clue at all lad.

Rashford is holding us back

Weirdly I think he's been better in the recent performances where he's been 'injured' than he has in many games this season. He's had some truly awful performances this season but he's done very well to continue getting amongst the goals. His best attribute is his movement off the shoulder of the defence and it's a huge weapon we use to good effect which is why he gets so many goals. It's something Greenwood needs to do better because he's more dangerous in front of goal. I do still think controversially, that over the course of the season Greenwoods general play has been at a higher overall level compared to Rashford.

Pretty clear that the other options aren't deemed good enough over even a half fit Rashford and Ole is probably justified in that call seeing as he's bagged 20 times this season all whilst being INJURED. We've seen multiple times that even when he's been poor, just like Bruno they have a knack for stepping up with a goal. Yesterday we had Greenwood as realistically the only other viable option as James was injured and the call to leave Mason out played out pretty well considering the end result.

As a whole the team played better 2nd half as Spurs got the goal and went into their shell. Literally the whole team in the first half looked terrible Fred genuinely put in a 2/10 performance then came out 2nd half and pulled it back. No doubt we looked better 2nd half but i don't think that was because he came off because honestly can't really remember him doing much wrong, honestly can't remember him doing much at all because he's clearly being over played and playing whilst being injured.

woohoo 20 goals. We ran lukaku out of the club on around the same amount of goals because his overall play was poor. Remember that? It wasn’t too long ago.

Yes we looked a way better TEAM when Rashford came off. We scored 2 goals who were scored and assisted by the player who replaced him just to further drive home the point. Jesus it’s not a huge leap. He lost or wasted the ball nearly every time it went up to him. Same thing on Thursday and the Sunday before it and so on. His overall play while he’s unfit makes us very predictable and he provides almost no service or workrate for the other forwards to play off and he looks miserable.

Thanks for outing yourself lad!

was shocking on the Son goal. didn't track back even when he could see AWB wasn't there. poor effort which lead to the goal.

I think there is a probably a bit of common sense in the middle here. Rashford has done well this season, his numbers are good for a wide player, however he is clearly playing with an injury the past couple of months which is restricting him. We did look a better team when he came off yesterday. Ole should be managing his game time much more sensibly in the current situation. For example he should be nowhere near the line up against Granada and have a full week to rest, however I can imagine Ole will start him again.

that’s what I’m saying. He’s been finishing off moves but he’s been detrimental to our overall play. There’s absolutely no need to be starting him in every game when he’s been poor for ages now. When will the penny drop that his overall play is holding the other 2 forwards back? Yesterday was a very stark example for me. We were full of running, lay offs and early balls once he went off instead of the ball hitting Rashford and just getting turned over again

I think he needs a good break but unfortunately Ole is just continuing to play him every match, even though there are other options. We had Mata, Greenwood and DVB on the bench yesterday. We have spunked 40m+ on two wingers who are nowhere near the first team.

I think Rash is playing with a foot injury and/or back issues. I don’t understand how folk on here can criticise him. He’s United through and through and is human so will have the odd average game. I reckon Madrid would pay big money for him if they had any and he wanted to leave.

yep but people with "no petty agenda" still have to have their constant moan apparently

You know why they are criticizing him.
