If you believe fascism is total state control that suppresses and oppresses it's people, particularly the opposition, then I think far left and far right groups aspire to that. It is their way or the highway and power is more important than serving the people. The controlling party will then select their leader from within their party rather than the people effectively creating a dictatorial environment and anti democracy.
For me when one group thinks they are above another and start to suppress the other group, controlling education, media, communication and entertainment you have the foundation to indoctrinate the population you are on a slippery road. Most of the western world has significant parts of that in place. The eastern world already have it in place.

I hear you. What you describe sounds more like standard authoritarianism rather than fascism so to speak. But I understand the two are often conflated, much like communism and authoritarianism. So while far left and far right authoritarian minds share authoritarian characteristics, I don't necessarily subscribe to the idea of left wing fascism or right wing communism.

This is a disingenuous analogy. If Mourinho or Woodward or the great Sir Alex went around telling fans to beat up Scousers and kick blues, then you'd have a point. But they don't do that. In fact, Ferguson preached respect towards the Scouse, especially in the testing times of Hillsborough and the aftermath.
Trump, as has been proven with video evidence in this thread alone, has told his supporters to beat up protesters, who also happen to be his constituents. Can you imagine if Angela Merkle or Mourinho said that? They would rightfully be fired.

Are you referring to her telling supporters to confront administration members? If so, I agree that that wasn't a good move on her part, but how is it not on the same page as literally encouraging people to "beat the crap" out of someone? Actually it isn't on the same page, because confront leaves some ambiguity on whether it's meant as verbal confrontation or physical. Beating the crap out of someone is much more clear.
On the subject of Trump rallies. Even if some of the attendees are very smart (I'm sure there's one or two) you spectacularly underestimate the power of herd mentality in us humans. We can stoop to great lows when confronted with peer pressure. For sources of this you need not look further than recent history.
I won't say you're on the WUM, because I'm sure Trump has actual supporters. After all the yanks elected him as their president, but come on, you can at least admit that it's less than presidential to tell people at a rally to beat the crap out of someone. Regardless of fecking context.

Actually that's not correct as far as I know. Fascism is a rather open phrase, there is no one correct definition. If you look at it from a strictly historical perspective (Mussolini, Hitler) then of course it's inherently right wing, but if you look at fascism as sort of a general political concept then it isn't bound to the left or right.
