I have a soft spot for season 2. The Greeks were interesting.
First time I saw it I was a bit spun out by the change of direction but, all things considered, I now think seasons 2 and 4 are the best. Some great characters in 2 and you can really feel David Simon's sympathy for them all the way through. Especially Frank. His suffering is almost biblical.
Exactly. It's the show's willingness to constantly evolve and change focus from one social stratum to another that makes it so special. It's so rare (and potentially dangerous) for TV to move away from, or totally ditch, major characters in order to keep finding something new to say. In the end, you go from watching a hugely superior cops v gangs show to watching the critique of an entire city (and country and ideology). It's got everything.

They remastered it to Bluray a few years ago with 16:9 aspect ratio instead of 4:3. I recommend trying to find that!

it's still great but generally considered the weakest of the five. They got cut to 10 episodes so the whole thing feels a bit rushed and preposterous at times compared to the other four seasons, but the last episode is excellent and it's still The Wire so it's still better than almost everything else out there.
I remember a guy on here refused to watch it cos it was 4:3...
he definitely won't like The Lighthouse then.
It's better than almost anything else you'll see, bar the first 4 seasons of The Wire.
I hated season 2. But the other three were superb.
You'll like the second season much more upon 2nd viewing, and it will be your favourite along with season 4. And if not, just don't bother showing up on this forum anymore.
