Top 4 race 2016/17

I expected Chelsea to lose points at Leicester, but they really are incredibly resilient and efficient team. Really impressive by Conte.

No we weren't. That was your cup final & players were fatigued. I thought we'd scrape a draw at best. It was one of those games we could afford to lose.

Chelsea our cup final :lol::lol:

You're not Arsenal mate, you aren't even West Ham, they are much bigger games than Chelsea.

Prior to the game you said "Wouldn't be surprised if we beat them."

They rarely get injuries as well. It's like the antithesis to Arsenal.

"Cup final" is such a funny thing rivals always throw out, it's really a meaningless saying and excuse. It's like "game raising cnuts" around here.

Also how can you use fatigue as an excuse? You had an extra 24 hour rest period on Spurs in a packed schedule. That's huge. So the fatigue wouldn't be your excuses it would have been Spurs'.

12 points behind is massive at this stage. United would need to gain 13 more points than Chelsea, 4 more wins wouldn't be enough at the end of the day.

United won't win every game of the season. Yesterday they showed that they're anything but a solid team. Martial, Jones and others easily make mistakes and because of Mourinho's tactics (don't create many chances) it's gonna end costly in most cases. So no, title race for United is effectively over now! Finishing within the top 4 has again dark clouds all over it thanks to yesterday's game. We have to start again, so disappointing.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool look comfortably better with the ball at their feet, these days they're all winning their games with ease, IMO. Arsenal have still an 4 points advantage on their hands and won't drop many points against lower teams either. City have already shown during this season that they can put away team after team, they will recover and people shouldn't forget that they're still ahead of United in the table.

Player for player United have talent wise probably the best squad in the league. A good amount of world class players (Ibra, Pogba, De Gea, Mkhitaryan), tons of depth with variety. They can go big, go fast, and they can go with experience. Very disappointing that Jose Mourinho put us in this position. He's underachieving big time.

Newspapers have a point questioning what went wrong at United. Yesterday should have been won, simple as.
Stopped reading at "don't create many chances" - I'm pretty sure United have created the most chances in the league. It's the finishing that's the problem

I think Arsenal & City will miss out on top 4 this season.

Chelsea won't be caught now after this weekend's results, only Spurs can really do that and I don't think they are good enough to win it.

Chelsea
then Spurs, United, Liverpool in whichever order.

Except it's true. Your players have been talking about that particular fixture since we ended your title hopes last season. Vertonghen, Dier, Rose, Kane etc they were all at it. They were your biggest games of the season. It was your cup final.

You even sabotaged your own CL campaign by resting players in a crucial game against Monaco just so you'd have a better chance at beating us in the reverse fixture. So sad.

Worked though didnt it? We absolutely played you off the park. We drink your tears.

Easily our worst performance of the season & we could've easily came away with a draw if Hazard took either of his chances despite you lot playing at your full potential.

The fact that you're still giddy about that game despite us being 7 points above you speaks volumes. It'll be all for nought unless you win the League you bottled in spectacular fashion last season.

Oh not giddy about it mate - it's soo last week. Just responding to your whining and general tearful gibbering.

Are people still happy Spurs beat Chelsea last week?
Only the deluded ones wanted spurs to beat Chelsea and guess what, they are likely still deluded and think United can win the title this season.

I think City will at least take points off of spurs next week so United will still have chances to get into top4.

I don't think it's Spurs you should be looking at. As long as City doesn't win, the outcome of that game will be favourable to United.

Don't know why people thought we were in the title race in the first place.

We're Man Utd. We're not in it to make up the numbers. Until its mathematically impossible why not BELIEVE?

"The old order changeth yielding place to new ...", Alfred Tennyson.

As I said a while back - and received much criticism for doing so - the changeability/volatility of the list of clubs composing the top 4 is increasing:

* From 2005-06 through 2008-09 inclusive (4 seasons) the same 4 clubs were top 4, albeit in varying order.

* Then from 2009-10 through 2014-15 inclusive (6 seasons), the top 4 composition changed by 1 club in each season compared to the previous season.

* Last season (2015-16), the top 4 composition changed by 2 clubs compared to the previous season.

* This season it's nailed on that the top 4 composition will again change by at least 2 clubs (and quite possibly 3), compared to last season

Except you've kind of pointed out your own logical fallacy. That "cup final"/"revenge game"/whateveryouwanttocallit fixture already happened...you beat us at the bridge. The game at WHL wasn't that game anymore - it was a more regular London Derby. Which was why everyone heard all the "3 Point Lane" comments going into the fixture we're now discussing.

My argument is Chelsea fans had confidence going into it because you had just beaten us a month before and if saying, "3 point lane" isn't an implication you're confident of beating us then I don't know what is.

You can make whatever strawmen arguments you'd like that involve "cup finals", "champions league" (which we rotated in all year, so I'm not sure what you're getting at there).

The fact is as I stated, Chelsea fans were confident going to the Lane and winning and they didn't. That's basically all she wrote on this argument.

I doubt any Chelsea fans (apart from maybe bluecelery) on here were confident of 3 points. Most were probably hoping for a draw, but dippers dropping points to moyes made the diff between draw/loss irrelevant really.

I fully expect City to get better and go on a run. They cant stay as horrible as this rest of the season.

I understand it may be offensive to Utd fans and apologise in advance but the real path to contend again for the highest is do a Atleti or Sevilla kind of road, there are no shorter ways really available: level and ability to fight the best teams come from practice, so just be patient and add one brick at time to your project.

There needs to be a poll to discuss who out of United, Arsenal and City will make it to the top four. Still early days but I feel these three will be fighting for fourth place.

A nicely constructed tale based on your own fantasy. I don't recall any of our players discussing you in any detail other than only being interested in the 3 points.

Football wise we don't consider you as rivals one jot let alone a cup final, it will always be Arsenal followed by West Ham for us. But we are like West Ham in that we've always enjoyed your company and cool days out in West London.

It seems unthinkable that City and Arsenal would fail to make top 4, but that's based on the last however many years.
I'd still see Tottenham and Liverpool falling out of the mix before them.

It's much too early for that, if City beat Spurs at the weekend they are level on points.

We really need to step it up in the big games. We played City, Arsenal, Pool and Spurs at home and only got 5 points out of it, that's not good enough and now we need to play them all away in the second half of the season, which will be difficult. We lost against Chelsea too. I have the feeling that those "big games" could kill our CL hopes, so I hope Jose can get some important away wins.

Your cup final.

Keep in mind these are just your players. The vitriolic obsession is much worse among your fanbase despite how much you want to play it down.

Strategic pessimism, I presume?:smirk:

Seriously though, you guys simply have to beat them. Finish the job you started!

As for the poll, it's simply more fun to predict early, even if to look back and laugh at what we were thinking in January..

I'm willing to bet on Wenger losing out on top four this time (finally)! My only concern is we might join them because we have a difficult end to the season.

Keep in mind that United, Spurs and Arsenal play each other back to back in May. The net winner of these three fixtures might get fourth place..

These things are said all of the time, maybe they were just trying to scare your lads, if so it worked perfectly as we just bullied your little boys from start to finish.

Do our fanbase make little flags and banners like you lot did for the game last year. Even sending the dozy bird off your tv channel down to the Lane with one, giggling like she was being really naughty. Honestly we aren't into flags and banner waving with you little weirdos.

Our rivals will always be Arsenal, we hate them with a passion, they killed our feckin parrot and we won't forget. We also have a bit more of a fan based rivalry with West Ham which is a lot more intense than with Arsenal fans which is pretty much fully football based. But honestly you lot, over the years we've just had fun with you and that's been for 2 or 3 generations now, that's why you make your little flags and banners to hide behind.

You should try and focus on your pretend rivalry you've been trying to create with Liverpool, created out of need because out of the London clubs only Fulham and QPR are interested in you. North and East London has always been the centre of London football and no amount of a Putin puppets money or plastic fans will change that.

I could easily go to somewhere like Shed End or another Chelsea blog / forum and show you the confidence.

Speak for yourself mate.

I hate Arsenal because I'm Spurs.

I hate Chelsea because I'm a human being.

Our players were massively up for it and I personally like that. Bluecelery is attempting to use it as a weird wind up of "you care more than we do" which is such a foolish excuse for a supporter. Another way to put it is "our players don't care about our club or its traditions" and frankly given what we've seen from Chelsea at times (hello last year) bluecelery is probably right.

Just read an interesting stat....

Liverpool have led in 18 out of 21 league matches played this season, and drew two out of the other three 0 - 0.......

Odd team out.......Burnley
That really was a very weird match. We had like 74 shots at goal and Burnley 3 .. two of which were worldie goals. Frustrating game.

Sweech and Henry, why are you even bothering to feed the biggest troll on the board? It's not worth your time!

Leicester were fecking poor, tbf. I couldn't believe they didn't even tried. Where was their pride?
