Top 4 race 2016/17

We've still to play... Shitty, Arse and Spuds away... next up is CSKA at home. We have to man up and get some results or hope we win the EL.

Do you think we can get two draws and two wins from these games and will that be enough? I have a hard time imagining getting any more from these games
18-20 points from 8 games is what we need. I dont think we have it in us, especially looking at the teams we play.

We have a lot of top teams left which may suit us as we have struggled to beat the teams that sit back against us. Liverpool have a lot of lower table table teams which they have struggled with this season. Its not going to be easy but definitely doable. We have to be up for every game though.

You sit firmly at the bottom of the top six mini league. I'm surprised the number of times I have to write this on here because of selective memories yet again. :wenger::wenger:

With our fixture list, playing city and arsenal, it's basically our own hands. Win those 2 games and it's on.

And Liverpool lost 7 games (I think) to teams below the top 6. They also have to face these teams without Mané, who carried the team for periods of time.

The bigger picture is United have to play teams in the top half, who we have struggled against, and Liverpool have to play teams in the bottom half (without Mané) who they have struggled against.

Yep I've been discussing the bigger picture in here since January, when we were being flushed down the toilet by every team going. Rumours are that Lallana and Henderson may return next week, otherwise week after hopefully. That means we'll have everyone fit bar Mane.

Out of only 6 games remaining if we win 4, or even 3, we may have done enough. You and Arsenal have to win 6 or 7 out of 9. Plus your other commitments. And you play each other. No more draws for you both.

Someone sounds rattled. Did I say we had a great record? No, I said it may suit us as the teams that sit back pose us problems atm and we should have beaten Arsenal and ye at Old Trafford and couple that with the fact we've only played the top 6 teams once so far this season barring ye.

We've played a lot less of these games though?

Rattled? Ha. Your words were "we (Utd) have a lot of top teams left which may suit us"... Wrong. And then said "Liverpool have a lot of lower table teams which they have struggled against"... Correct. We'll leave the latest 7 out of 9 points against Burnley, Bournemouth and Stoke out as facts often don't tell the truth. ;)

So despite me quoting the quotes and then quoting them again why did you get the bit in bold wrong? :)

To be fair, those wins haven't really been that convincing, but all wins are worth the same. I'd consider you favourites, but Arsenal may surprise a few. They may yet find a way to squeeze into that 4th place if you slip up.

We'll probably lose points to Chelsea at the weekend, and then lose against City, which will put the "Top 4 race 2016/17" to rest with six rounds to go! Who'd have thought.

That's the Gooners out of top 4 IMO. Still think it's a stretch for us given fixtures

Do you know that guy that was bleating some rubbish about being out of all cups as a necessary evil to focus on top four. Yeah him. He thought.

Just a case of who finishes 3rd and 4th between Liverpool and City now.

Not worried about Arsenal now. As far as top 4 goes I think our only hope is if Liverpool implode. They still have a few shit teams to play so it could happen.

Indeed. I expect we'll take at least 4-5 points less than City and Liverpool during the run-in, so we needed a substantial lead on at least one of them going into the Chelsea game. Obviously, we've failed to do that. Looks like Arsenal are done too, so the top 4 will feature neither of us for the first time in Premier League history.

The way it's shaping up we could face Spurs and Arsenal when they have nothing to play for

Realistically you will need a minimum of 75 to make top 4 this year. That would mean Arsenal need to win 7 out of 8 games. Not happening.

Arsenal now effectively 15 points behind Spurs, tho' with a game in hand. They could still get top 4, but it's looking very dodgy for them now.

How do you know they won't suit us??? We lost to City but played poorly in the first half. Dominated Arsenal but drew, should have beaten Liverpool at home with our chances in the first half in particular and a rush of blood from Pogba but had a hard fought point at Anfield. We were well beaten by Chelsea which is fair enough. Also we beat Tottenham who are walking through teams atm. So your opinion that a match against those teams won't suit us as being wrong is simply arrogant and close minded hence why I thought ya sounded rattled. Am I not entitled to my opinion which you shot down? It may suit us as we have struggled against teams that sit back. Could ya not understand that?

I think you'll batter them at your place. That could be a painful day for them.

Do you actually read what you type? So basically:

Played 6, W1, D3, L2.

That's dreadful. You can leave the lame excuses at the door.

Those games look likely to be meaningless for all 3.
Not really. The fact that our last 3 away games that people cry about being tough could be v teams who are already on the beach. Even Palace at home is the last game of the season when they'll have been safe for weeks.
I've said in this very thread that thie scenario suits us rather than facing Spurs in February or Arsenal around Christmas.
Big sides aren't big game raisers when there's nothing to play for but facing West Brom etc is always tough no matter when it's played. They always want that scalp.

If we're going by records then you're fecked since you have 1 away win in 4 odd months...
Or 7 points from the last 15 v lower sides..

You just know that'll be the day they pull a great win out the bag and Wenger gets his extension. Although saying that...if there's any reason where the trend will finally be bucked, it's this one.

If you are Arsenal & can't make top four, you should ensure you don't make the Europa league. If out of Europe next season you might actually do well in the league.

So we battered Bournemouth at home this season but drew so we are going to draw the next match with them as well??? You're completely ignoring the way those matches panned out.

Seems like every team, except Chelsea, are trying to NOT get top 4.

Great idea. Go out of cups this season so Liverpool can go out of another next season.
2016-17-stuffed in 2 cups.
2017-18-stuffed in 3 cups.

It's progress of sorts I suppose.
