Most residential roads won't have see any gritters or the like, households have to do that themselves if they feel the need.

Surely it's the ice which is the issue more than the snow? I remember walking up to OT before the United - Leeds game a few years ago, we had to shuffle like penguins because of the ice ... far more dangerous than these conditions will be.

I think it must be cars and coaches they're worried about. You're right that it makes no sense if it's about walking - when has walking on snow ever been 'dangerous'? Especially the piddling couple of inches that seems to throw England into crisis every winter (or so the media would have us believe).

Based on Fergie's comments in this article, it sounds like he is indeed going to drop Welbeck for Rooney. Someone who 'played great last week', and who did a huge amount of running - that seems to fit Welbeck's performance against Liverpool.

I don't think it is really about who's fault it is, they just don't want tens of thousands of people out and about when they don't need to be and the potential strain on the emergency services when people twist, strain or break something. It makes perfect sense really.

The snow is coming down pretty heavily at Stamford Bridge, but the conditions around the stadium look fine to me. Apparently it is going to come down heavily between 1400 and 1600 though
The roads aren't too bad around London it's more to do with the footpaths around WHL.
They were playing the Leicester game in the championship on Friday in front of a few thousand fans only with the stadium mostly empty.

What a ridiculous situation as usual in this country.Authorities will leave it until the last minute and inconvenience thousands of people and viewers.
nothing to do with the pitch, it is all to do with condition of the surrounding area and if the Police deem it unsafe they will call it off, bullshit yes but that the namby pamby world we live in.
It's bullshit when they use the excuse that the footpaths are dangerous to call off games. As soon as 50 or so people have trampled over the snow and ice it disappears anyway.

How the hell is it Tottenham's fault if the roads are bad, they are not in control of the roads, even round the ground, the immediate roads surrounding the ground I can see what you mean, but how far would that go?
It is the fault of the local council and there is no way any council will grit all week just so that a PL football match is not called off.

agreed, but we have all seen matches called of when the pitch was perfect and it has been called off for other reasons, some have been called of because of the condition of the terraces, now that is the fault of the football club.

I went to our match v Wigan at OT a few years ago around Christmas time when the weather was like this, walking up from the swing bridge to the bottom of SMB Way was icy as feck and there were plenty of people struggling (failing) to stay on their feet but the game went ahead.

instead of roads i should have said foothpaths which is often the problem for these games. i think considering the tv commitments, travel inconveniences and the simple fact that a game of this level simply should never be called off because of some snow and ice the club has a responsibility to make their stadium accessible.
i cant remember the exact stat but the weekend we were cancelled vs chelsea and about 20 more games in uk were too, there was one game cancelled in germany in arguably worse conditions and that was something like a third division game. theres no excuses for it, thats just my opinion though.

People are on the trains and buses on their way to the stadium now and they are going to call this off? It should have been done in the morning if needed. Who is going to compensate back the time and money to these people?
After these people travelling on the same footpath's start to make their way to the stadium, they'll cancel it because the footpath's aren't great.
