Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United

I don't like Jones starting in centre mid at all. Almost a certain before the game as even kicked off that he will be replaced by either Rooney or Anderson.

Can't understand this team... Jones inclusion in the centre is baffling with so many other options available. I don't see why we should show THIS Spurs side so much respect.
Still, the Spurs' back four looks weak on paper, we should get our chances.

Not sure what to make of that team really. Spurs are the one side we should be using wingers against but we decide to use a diamond (presumably) instead.

Let's just see, I guess.

I don't think Jones will be in midfield, Ferguson is just looking for a way to handle Bale.

Rafael on the wing in front of Jones at right back is my prediction.

De Gea

Jones - Vidic - Ferdinand - Evra

Rafael - Carrick - Cleverley - Kagawa

RVP - Welbeck

We don't need a midfielder, we have Jones :wenger:

Probably an insight into how we will line up against Real also.

Any chance of Jones being on the right side of the diamond to try and help out Rafael with Bale?

I'll wait till after the game, before i start judging the side put out.

The way any midfield that we play against Dembele deals with him we certainly do.

Then we should be playing an actual CM there instead of Jones. As i said, Rooney dropping deep would have been enough cover.

I just hope of jones plays in the middle it's not as an a/m as virtually every other time, if he sits with carrick could be good, but if he plays high I just don't get it.

Hadn't thought of that, good shout.

Shows how little faith Fergie has in Nani and Valencia anymore if that's the line out though.

Big big game to try the diamond.

Carrick
Cleverley Jones
Kagawa
Van Persie Welbeck

The thing about that team is, it's pretty adaptable to other formations.

I'm curious about the actual formation... I can come up with at least 3 different formations with that lineup, with all kinds of combinations. AVB must be scratching his head now...

Strange line up! wtf!

Spurs have Bale and Lennon and we need our wide players to help out the wing backs.

I hope not. I'd like to see Rafael dealing with Bale. He's best equipped for the job.

Rooney comes back from injury and scores, I'd have had him in. But maybe it's still the fitness thing, plus Welbeck does deserve the reward and Kagawa does need game time to improve form, so I can see why.

Brilliant line-up imo. I think Jones has a lot of potential in midfield. The only swap I would have made is Rooney for Welbeck, but rehabilitation from injury is obviously an issue there.

Jones in midfield, Welbeck up front. Where are our wingers? Not impressed.

I think that looks like diamond, similar to what we used against West Ham with Kagawa behind Welbeck and RVP with Rafael playing the same role he did West Ham with Jones right back. Obviously could be a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2. We will see. If Anderson was fit, I think he would have been used and Rafael right back.

If right, would be:

Dea Gea

Jones, Rio, Vidic, Evra

Carrick

Rafael Cleverley

Kagawa

Welbeck RVP

I think it's going to be a diamond, like we saw at West Ham first leg.

--------------------De Gea--------------------------
------Jones-----Vidic-------Ferdinand----Evra--------
--------------------Carrick---------------------------
--------------Rafael---------Cleverley----------------
--------------------Kagawa--------------------------
-------------Van Persie------Welbeck-----------------

Lets wait and see we could be surprised but this already feels like one of those strange selections that 9/10 we always feck up.

If rather see rafael at rb, think he can do more damage attackingly from there as he can run from deep and also think his great qualities when one on one will be important against bale.

Don't know why Jones is on instead of Rooney, but I guess if we are in need of reinforcements we can easily bring Rooney and Hernandez on for Jones and one of Welbeck/Kagawa

I think so too. Or even

Jones - Vidic - Ferdinand - Evra
Carrick
Rafael --------- Cleverley
Kagawa
RVP - Welbeck

Good to see SAF has taken the decision to reward Welbeck for his performance last week, which will give him huge encouragement and confidence, as well as send a message to Rooney that he has to earn back his position in the starting XI.
