I'd also be gobsmacked if he signed a new contract, however lucrative that deal may be he knows if he signs it he's trapped in the French league for five more years.
I think we better get used to more players seeing out their contracts - transfer fees have got unsustainable and these top players are finding it increasingly hard to make a move.

Swings both ways though doesn't it, they are now using it as leverage to get insane contracts out of clubs. United and Arsenal have been so stupid over the last few years with contracts and I suspect we are about to make the same mistake again with Pogba this summer.
I agree though, players know clubs won't sell unless they get what they want now. Look at the Zaha situation at Palace, years ago it would be unthinkable for a club like Palace to hold on to a player like they have him, totally pricing him out of a move. They've refused to budge on their valuation and he's year on year had to bite his lip and get on with it down the bottom end of the Premier league.

Just Varane and Sancho would make this the best summer window for ages in my opinion. If we add a midfielder too then it's Title challenge time all the way. There can be no excuses.
