Firstly, everyone is reporting a fee of €53m with €7m extra of bonuses, so it's not €45m.
Secondly, 20 goals out of 76 are from penalties.

I think Morata is certainly the higher risk and slightly less proven, but he has never been given the platform to be the leading number 9. He very well could be on the cusp of breakout into a seriously brilliant number 9. There are some parallels to Fernando Torres.

“The €67m figure announced by English sources and then relayed constitute an impossible sum that is not realistic. The first offer made by Arsenal was €45m. The deal will happen for something between €45m and €50m.

“To be close to €50m is something unique, and will be without a doubt a record for Arsenal and a record for Lyon absolutely."

There are yes, but the first game is less than 6 weeks away, and there really is no time to lose if we want a player at least vaguely settled in.
A week's time before the tour is one key time to get players in.
 
It's so obvious that the Lukaku deal is done and Neverton are just spending the proceeds before its announced so not to be ripped off which is a shame as I hate the cnuts.

But that's still no reason to panic. We signed Martial on September 1st and he scored in his first game and had a great first season. Panic when we know we haven't brought in a striker. Panicking now is just odd. It's July 2nd ffs.

thanks for note about meme posting, I removed it. When you buy a risky player, you don't pay 70-80m euros, you pay 30-40m in today's market. But let me say that there is a good chance he might make the breakout to something great. Isn't it better to buy him on Martial-like contract, rising to 70m in case he breakout?

Yeah I agree panicking is a bit strong.
But there is a growing feeling, mostly propagated by the constant reports of our so called "struggles" in the press that things aren't going to plan.

Last year we had an appalling strike rate and from that we've lost the 28 goal striker. It's optimistic to think anyone we bring in will match that, so the worry is we will actually be weaker!

However, on the other hand it felt like we weren't far away at times last year. I do think we're going to have to go about things with a defensively solid approach, rather than the City/Liverpool style goal fests

@Sassy Colin kinda beat me to it but I was thinking we're waiting for Arsenal to sign Lacazette and we will get Giroud as well as Morata :drool: or instead of.

I mean if people fall for that nonsense it's their own fault. It's easy hits for journalists. We've signed one player and missed out on Griezmann due to circumstances outside of our control, cue "DISASTER!" pieces. We've lost Ibra, but I think anyone who doesn't expect us to sign a striker is crazy. We also have a number of young players that will hopefully have grown and will do better in the coming year among players like Miki who didn't have the greatest seasons but have shown enough that they can create and score more often. We're in a good position, a few astute purchases and we're laughing despite doom and gloom merchants.

Scored 27 goals, 8 of them are penalties, only 19 of open play. Yeah impressive.

I don't find it that hard for a lone striker to score 19 goals in French league and Lyon isn't a weak team in offense ( they're weak defensively ). Very normal record, not bad but not impressive either.

Anyway next season we'll see what he'll do.

Speaking of farmers, 10 of Morata's 15 league goals came against the bottom 10 in La Liga. Playing for a stacked Real Madrid. So, yeah.

didn't like 11 of them either draw madrid level or put them ahead? Pretty decisive, even if you can paint that it was against lower teams. Was a super sub

Good because our problem last season was terrible finishing against midtable and bottom teams so he's going to solve this problem. :)

Oh and btw, most goals of any striker in any league in the world are against midtable and bottom teams. I can count in EPL, too. How many goals Costa, Zlatan, Aguero and Sanchez scored in top 6 teams compared to the goals they scored against bottom half ?

You don't need to tell me, I was only making that point in reply to the poster who was implying Lacazette can't be good because he scores in the French league.
