End of the day, he was a perennial substitute with no light at the end of the tunnel, yet he never once expressed his desire to leave. Another Di Maria in the making, being forced out to fund their newest shiny toy (Mbappe).
It's a cut-throat business at this level. If you pussyfoot around like Alvaro has been, clearly wanting to stay at Madrid or least not making a concrete gesture of wanting to leave, the very few clubs that can afford you, might look elsewhere to someone who genuinely wants to move.
I can see Morata being a Chelsea player now, for huge money, and probably doing very well as I reckon he would've done well with us. But dilly-dallying means people move on, I have some reservations about Lukaku but I don't doubt he will score us a lot of goals in the process and it's also nice to put Madrid in a 'feck off' position too. Although, Conte will probably end up paying for Mbappe for them so they win again, haha.
