We will not win CL again before we get some world class game changers. And we will not even win PL before we upgrade team a lot. Matic is just slight upgrage and is past of his peak already. Soon he will be average, if he's not already.
We should aim to same where we were 2008. And gap between us and toptop teams is not going get smaller with players like Matic. We should do better. Where are this years "Pogbas" and "Zlatans"? Most of fans will be really dissapointed to summer if Matic, Perisic and Morata are our new signings. It's not even near what we need to compete with Real and Bayern, other huge clubs like United.
It's true, Kante carried their midfield and defence. Matic looked seriously shot a lot of the time. Maybe a move will rejuvenate him but at 29 it's a risk.Bit selective that.

Mourinho is taking a leaf out of Moyes's book in signing his old players. At least he has better ones to chose from.
no he isn't. Fabinho is a more all action and progressive player then Matic.
Matic is disciplined, fairly risk averse, strong aerially and reads the game well while Fabinho is a tackler and tries to play a pass/final ball more often.
I think Conte would gladly keep Matic here as a squad player. It seems though that Matic himself wouldn't be happy with that role and the rumored £40m is too much for the club to refuse.
If a manager like Mou wants him (again!) he obviously feels like he'll be great for you guys. That's why I as a Chelsea fan would be pissed if it happens.

Yeah, one that doesn't move like he's 35 as well, which Matic does. When someone is sitting in the single pivot their ground coverage laterally needs to be excellent, Matic has the mobility of an oil tanker.
Stats say nothing about the type of cross. He had Ibra to float useless balls to last season. When was the last time he whipped in a good cross to a player not over 6'4?
The obsession with Fabinho is quite striking. I doubt many posters have even seen more than 2/3 games in the Champions Leagues with him involved. I would rather trust Jose's eye.

As someone who likes high tempo attacking football it's a disappointment to see a slower more side to side player brought in, but I'm not a manager so maybe he is right.
Carrick always moved way better than Matic and is also massively superior on the ball, there is zero comparison.

Really? Fabinho was let go by Real Madrid, isn't a regular for a poor Brazil team and currently plays in Ligue 1 where only PSG and Lyon will gives you a game. Everyone wanted Shaw, Di Maria even Schneiderlin. Look how's those worked out.

Think Conte just wants a different type of midfielder. He clearly rates him because he started him the vast majority of the time in a title winning season ahead of Fabregas.
Bakayoko is much more athletic and mobile and perhaps more suited to playing in a midfield 2 than Matic is currently.
Not sure about key - he was one of Chelsea's worst players last season and ended up losing his place to Fabregas towards the end.
I can't believe some of you are unhappy with potentially signing Matic. Strong and tall, hammer of a shot. Positional sense is great. I think he will free up Pogba to play further forward also.

To see Fabinho play last season you would need to be able to watch that obscure competition called the Champions League.

Yeah he is. He's mobility is perfectly adequate for a midfielder.
He also knows how Jose operates, so he will not need loads of coaching. He will do as he is told.
