To add my own thoughts...

Mourinho is building a squad capable of carrying out his gameplan including closing out the 1-0 wins that we let slip so often last season. Thats why we need more players, so that mourinho can do his thing.

Last season the target was champions league, mourinho achieved that and added silverware. People need to give the man a break and the club need to get him the squad he wants to have a serious title challenge which is the expectation for this season, (we should expect to win if the club gets mourinho what he wants in the window)

Milan (#11, chose #10 as soon as it became available)

PSG (#18, chose #10 as soon as it became available)

Swedish national team: #10 as soon as he declared himself king of the nation, which I can't recall when it was, but some time ago, when he was still playing for Sweden.

These three switches of jersey numbers for Z have one thing in common, and that is that they're all in the latter part of his career.

Also, it was Mourinho who gave him the #9 at United. This was after Zlatan asked him what number he should wear, perhaps because Mourinho thought it be fitting for our new number nine to wear the position's equivalent jersey number.

Which was also a dickhead move by Mourinho since it indicated that he doesn't respect a player's concurrent status at the club and did as he pleased, turning a non-issue to something for fans to discuss, since it also coincided with Martal's drop of form. And it alienated a lot of United supporters from the start, not even considering Mourinho's history at Chelsea etc, because a lot of us appreciated Martial a lot.

It's just a jersey number, but it was classless and disrespectful by Mourinho.

Elbows, headbutts, stupid fouls, shit passing with an occasional goal...feck off to Turkey already....but what do I know, he had a 9/10 performance against the that massive side full of kids in the Europa final. We have a whole month...won't take much to find a better replacement.

That De Brun guy have something against the Glazers. Funny he deleted the comments in 2014 in which I replied to. Banging on about the Glazers penny pinching when we have spent a lot since SAF retired.
 
Who are these higher targets we should be aiming for at LW and DM? Lets assume we have around 100m to spend (that is 200m this year), who do people want to buy, seeing that we have to buy those two style of players, and that we want a dribbling crossing winger and a pure DM?

I think Bale would be the prototype pacey, dribbling, crossing winger. In terms of dm, I don't think there are any world class options out there for the role, but there are definitely great players that should be available. My first choice would be Danilo Pereira but tbh I don't even think we need an amazing dm, just a good one. Their main function will ultimately be to get the best out of other players really.
 
Bale is a great winger but he is going to be 70m+ surely? That and his record of injuries is a worry. Mahrez I would give you, other than the fact he really isnt a crossing winger is he? played on the right as a left footer so he could cut in and shoot. Dont think he has ever been a tradityional winger.

DM I am struggling I dont think Matic should be more than 30m.

The media is trying too hard to make Jose collide with the board and got sacked just like what they were doing with Conte at the beginning of the window. They just want any collision to fill their paper about it.

Tight purse strings five, six years ago allowed a two decade foundation of success to nearly collapse when the man holding it together retired.

We've gone through two managers that did anything but restore us to glory. And third time around you've got a manager that attracts talent, achieved immediate success in his first season and has always made it clear he needs more. If you ignored the last five years you can claim we don't need more or better players. If you're fine with becoming a Liverpool or Leeds then you can turn a blind eye. But if your business is predicated on clubs long term sporting success you're a fool to do so.

As an aside, awful way to think , bringing up Gudetti's missed goal. (Football) History is made of missed and made chances. If you switched it around, even just single goals you'd be rewriting history and Champions and records of all sorts. Utter nonsense.

Good post. The reality of the state of our club is that we need to allow a manager who has the ability and vision to spend the money and rebuild our team. If we won't let him spend to rebuild the way he wants or put complete trust in him, why keep him in the manager role? If the ones managing the finances are not giving him what he wants, then they should rebuild the team themselves which they are not capable of...

Edit: I just want to be clear that I am not saying our club finance folks are not backing Jose. I am just sharing my views in general.

We have spent 105 million this summer (with willingness to spend more on targets at prices which are not obscene even in this market )and spent loads including a world record fee last summer.

What are some of you on about as if we are penny pinching like Juve (Cl finalist incidentally).

I mean we aren't matching City or PSG like some seemingly want but are up there with anyone else. We have spent bucketloads after SAF btw, and surely some would have learnt spending doesn't guarantee success.
 
Just another example on here of when someone says something that they don't like, the source is useless etc.

It's pretty obvious there is truth to it. The season starts in 2 weeks and we still need at least 2 players.

Same goes when someone says something you believe and think yourself.. there's always some truth in it supposedly.
 
That's pretty sad. People praying and hoping Fellaini will go when we should be happy about an addition to our squad.

Just a thought. Jose wanted players early before the season starts I reckon, now we are less than 2 weeks before the premiere league go ahead, and it's getting harder to sign good players as time goes by. Don't know hopefully I'm totally wrong and the man brings what he wants.

Ideally he would have had all the players he wants already but we have a whole month to get the deals sorted.

Raiola seems to also be acting as an intermediary for players who aren't on his books. And subsequently getting paid well too

Spot on there. You got to trust Jose and his plan on how he wants to go about games but if we are talking about paying over the odds, Fellaini is an odd one. Flat track bully nothing more
