Other than rvp, they weren't in their waning days, evra and rio had gone full on rooney for us when they were let go and vidic wasn't that far behind. Am i the only one who remembers how poor evra was defensively in his last 1-2 years here even under fergie, rio had lost his pace and was a big liability at back, vidic was going downhill fast, there is a reason why only evra of those 3 actually managed to play at a decent level and perform well and that too was helped by being in a slower league with a worldclass back 3 protecting and masking his mistakes.

I like Fellaini, he has a good atitude and not a bad sub to bring on as an extra striker type. But he is not a 6 or 8 at the level we need to be aiming for. I really hope he does well for Gala. He deserves a little respect for all the good he did in red albeit in a limited capacity. We'll forget the bad or I will at least he already gets enough stick.

Chelsea finally realised the season is starting soon for them too, they would like some business done themselves yet and while they may of wanted to wait until deadline day to mess up our preseason. I think our interest in others and Fellaini being in talks gave things the hurry up from their end. There is even mention of £40M and not the 50M they wanted. I guessing they gave into our 40M bid reluctantly in the fear we'd pull out altogether and they are left with a pissed off Matic. The game of cat and mouse had turned.

Would love if City could some how nick Mbappe from Madrid. Looks a grand player but paying double what we paid for Pogba for an 18 year old would be pretty terrible business. Pep will already top 500m in 1 year and City are probably nearing 3bn when you think about stadium and training complex etc. We are generally pretty terrible at picking future stars out at that age - for every 2-3 that are correct there are 15-20 wrong. Madrid went all out for Odegaard and paying him 100,000 a week, Bayern paid 50m for Sanches and both players look like they not only won't become the worlds best as predicted, but looks like they won't even impact the first team. Both of these players were tipped as the big thing in the previous two summers. I know that fans are saying 'yes but mbappe is different'. Every single time this happens people say 'this time is different'. Feel for Mbappe personally, he is probably getting poor advice from people that want to cash in on him and make money while his stock is hot.
What if Mbappe turns out to be the real deal?

He's not particularly exciting but it really is a position we needed to improve in - Herrera/Pogba were completely wasted in a holding role, so let's hope it unleashes them, especially Pogba, as an attacking force.
Looking at the team, it looks far more balanced...if Martial and Mkhitaryan find some form, things all of a sudden don't look too bad. Could do with another creative type but it'll be a good, solid signing.

Fellaini switched to 27 as Schweini wanted 31 when he signed. After Schweini left, 31 was free.
