Mourinho prioritizes a new left back 20 days before the window slams shut?

Should have been one of the first positions through the door, along with a winger which we are also no closer to getting.

At the risk of sounding like a spoilt child considering the Lukaku and Matic signings, this window has been a bit of a mess, full of drawn out sagas that come to nothing and missed opportunities.

You're being too harsh on yourself with 'spoilt child'.

It has been a difficult window from the get-go with Griezman and the transfer ban. As a fan, the anticipation had built up with the watch commercial and all that. So getting the last minute u-turn was a rough one. Everything from there was only going to be a struggle.

We don't know the details of behind the scenes negotiations but it does feel like every club has taken lessons from Levy about digging in. Still we got last year's champions excellent midfielder and hot commodity forward beating a rival. It took a while but they panned out.

Just need to keep patient and remember the manager and team cohesiveness is more important than having the perfect personnel on paper. Sir Alex won many a league with a squad like ours now that isn't quite fully /ideally assembled. I think Jose can do something similar. He has already taken a rather fragile squad and made them anything but pushovers.

Castles wouldn't usually communicate something that Mourinho hasn't actually implied though, would he? He's usually spot on when it comes to Jose and what he wants releasing in to the media.
I hope you're right. We're in desperate need of an LB.

I think he thought we'd get Perisic but now that deal seems dead he's targetting a left back (probably has one in mind) rather than another winger. Makes sense if we want to play the 352, perhaps Jose has been impressed with it in pre-season and is willing to put all his eggs in that basket now

Very true!

Mourinho hasn't really been all that keen on him. I'm doubtful about the article though as if we were after a leftback we would have looked at getting one much earlier. Castles' reliability with regards to Mourinho is overstated anyway IMO.

Yeah, good point. It's really strange considering United beat Mourinho's Chelsea to Shaw and made Jose come out with all those bitter statements about the transfer and price etc. Those comments look even more strange now considering he's United manager and the price being paid for players in todays market.

If Mourinho wants a decent left back option then he should look towards Santos's Neto Zeca. 23 years old and played in the Brazil squad and a huge prospect, just returned from injury so could be available at a reasonable price.

Agree for the most part. I'd just wonder whether Mou understands the problems United have had in recent years. We haven't had a quality winger in years, and this was evident throughout last season. And we STILL haven't found someone who can cross a football, which is beyond ridiculous for a side that aims to win the Champions League. We need at least another full back, winger and striker, and we have 20 days.

We would never sell Valencia.
I know but Aurier joining an agent who only has Valencia as a proper client sounds just as weird.

I'm not sure what's happening but there's a strong aura of BS around everything Inter related in this transfer window.

Clubs such as Liverpool and Dortmund are going to lose 100 million when the market simmers next window. Granted, Dembele is worth 100 or more right now. But Courtinho for 100m? Liverpool could buy about 5 players with that who could significant improve on their current team.

They could probably sign those players without selling Coutinho.

Several sources inside PSG mention that despite talks Mbappé won't sign this summer for financial reasons.

It doesn't mean that he isn't a target but it will be very complicated.

PSG will ask medias to deny contacts with Mbappé (like with Pepe) in order to negociate better.

Losing 2-1 to Real is a decent result from our perspective. Especially, considering one of Real's goal's was off-side. Also, United were a lot more open than our game against our opponent's in the Europa cup final.

It took SAF (what was it), three years before winning a trophy? Jose Mourinho's is doing well in my opinion.

Why is he in Paris

Holiday?

Surely the press should be all over this, Dembele to PSG!

Dembele in Paris, agrees terms with PSG!

We just made that up!
First Verratti, then Neymar and Dembélé, that would be hilarious!

Imagine the scenes on Las Ramblas with crazy Culés burning PSG shirts.

They said he was flying to Barcelona.

Ousmane Dembélé is our information on the way to Barcelona! More on @SkySportNewsHD @SkySportDE #ssnhd

Surely he does. I bet he walked into the club with an eye on Martial expecting great things after the previous season. He clearly was left disappointed by the player along with others that really should have been counted on (Shaw). I have believed in Jose since he came out and said we were a sad club. That resonated with me. He has always appreciated United so to get his dream job and make that honest appraisal I felt he knew what needs to be done. And that includes keeping with some of our traditions including promoting youth. If it weren't United, maybe he would have been quicker to bring in older more experienced players than stick with Rashford, Jesse and Martial.

Most def. Winning a new European trophy for the club was a great way to start his United career. For me, the biggest positive in assessing progress was that I tuned into every match hopeful we'd get a result. That's the first time in a while.
