People who normally produce their own natural steroids can't stay on supplementary steroids for indefinite periods without issues. After a while your own natural production becomes suppressed, and coming off the supplementary steroid is difficult. There are also some significant side effects, one of which is abnormal fat deposits on the face and abdomen.
Supplementary steroids are fantastic for giving you a boost and I've taken them myself when my autoimmune issues are playing up - but only for about 5 days at a time, with a gradual tapering-off of the dose.
