I'd probably give up on football if the Scouse got him, not only would it be embarrassing for us and we would never hear the end of it but it would also mean we let this worldclass player slip through our fingers again.

I don't think there's ever been anything in these rumours but that's how I interpret it too. Judging from the pause I'm guessing someone has specifically asked him a question after he's said he's going back to Juventus mentioning us, would be slightly random bringing us up otherwise.
