Agreed, however as we saw at the world cup LvG likes to switch tactics and formations mid game if he feels the team could gain an advantage from it; He might see Di Maria as an integral player in that sense as he has demonstrated an aptitude for playing on the wing or through the middle

Switching tactics is all well and good when it needs to be done, but if your 352 formation works 70% of the time that would make Di Maria the worlds most expensive sub.

You called this post absolute nonsense:
Being positive on.United getting players is the best way to get clicks. Look at the reaction on.here when a paper says United will not get a top player. They are called lying scum and everyone is warned to ignore them.
I've seen many Sport Witness articles that have been very negative on our transfers dealings aswell. If anyone thinks they're twisting the story to make it look more positive then you need to look at their twitter feed...

In Spain and Italy I have a fairly good idea which outlets are reliable and which are not. I give my opinion on said media and it's up to the individual to interpret what I said. If someone has a problem with my view then please put me on ignore...

IMO we won't buy Di Maria. Another centre mid and 2 centre backs id say

Agreed. I don't see where Di Maria can fit in. What we need is a wingback if we're going to continue with the 3-5-2 formation. I don't watch Real Madrid so can't really say how good Di Marias defensive play is, but i've always assumed he was a wide forward. Someone who plays high up the pitch with little defensive responsibilities.

Rochdale is my home town, and I can confirm that the room in question is probably a shining example of the best real estate available in the area. I'm surprised the contract signing photo wasn't taken down by the canal with an old mattress, a broken TV, and assorted smackheads being sick in the background!

 I'm weak

No offence to your home town though.

Rafael - Herrera - Vidal - Shaw
Mata - Di Maria
Rooney/RVP
Easy. And brilliant.

That is quite brilliant. Rooney for Mata against the big guns due to his and Di Maria's defensive contributions.

Correct, however I'm not sure how you would quantify a formation working 70% of the time?

More likely he will play 352 in some games, 433 (his preferred formation) in some games, and have the option of starting 433 and changing to 352, maybe some games play Di Maria in the middle in lieu of Mata, sometimes as a wing back, etc. It's likely to depend on the opposition we face, the injuries we are carrying, which players are in form, and so on.

It's not as cut and dry as 'This is our formation, and were sticking with it'. LvG is nothing if not tactically flexible.

To clarify, personally I don't think were even in for him and expect all rumour on the subject is a means to get his move to PSG, but I wouldn't worry about where he would play if we were!

So only 1 CB, no more midfielders and adding another Forward to our already Forward heavy squad? Yeah, ok Alex.
I think someone might have tampered with his sources

Didn't van Gaal say that we're playing this system because he doesn't want to have 3 striker on the bench? If we signed Di Maria, I'd expect us to play 4 at the back.

4-3-3/3-4-3 is his preferred formation.

I did say that, but think we will also see a lot of 352 line ups next season because of the personnel available (unless, of course, we make a few more signings before the end of the window!)
Bringing in Di Maria would give him the opportunity to play his preferred formation.

If Vidal and Strootman aren't available. I'd be going after Johannes Geis from Mainz. I think he'd be a better option than Carvalho tbh. Could see us entering the race for Morgan Schneiderlin too. Then the safe option of De Jong.

So if not Vidal and with Strootman unlikely as well, then who? We need a central midfielder this window, there is no excuses not to get one. Also hopefully if not Hummels then it isn't Vermaelen either.

There are plenty of very good midfielders that I know of. I'd like to think our paid scouts know a hell of a lot more.
