UK Riots (with the exception of Manchester which has its own thread)

So the media isn't supposed to report it? How does that make any sense?

What doesn't help is the media reporting how stretched the Police resources are. It just encourages all the looters to keep popping up in new areas.

I can't rememer saying that, no. If they keep reporting this to the extent it is being reported, you will have riots all over the country.

That is counter-productive. Yes, it warns people and that, but I think everyone has a pretty fecking good idea what's going on by now.

Finally! People fighting back! Dalston is being guarded by turkish men, protecting theur businesses. Dalston has as a result calm down.

about fecking time

Would it be wrong if the govt 'shut-down' twitter/facebook until this is under control? A few rumours on twitter on where the next attacks will be and these gangs seem to have organised these attacks using such websites.

I'm starting to get a very low tolerance for these thugs. The situation has escalated so the authorities need to raise their response. They are destroying communities, businesses and spreading fear. We need to get control of the streets quickly.

I'm not adverse to tear gas, water cannons, tasers, etc being used. Need to make a statement of intent and teach these idiots, young or not, some respect.

I agree 100%, but you can bet your life as soon as anyone of them stubs their toe they'll be crying police brutality and denying any involvement in the looting.

Go home or accept the consequences...

Positive role models? Stable family unit? Parents not off their tits on drugs and booze? A few lucky breaks to give them something in life to look forward to? Who knows.

Like I say, its something thats developed over generations and become self fuelled, why are some of their parents off their tits and others not?

Why doesn't everyone who comes from an unstable family or a less than ideal upbringing involved?

You can blame society all you want, and as I say I agree to a large extent but society is us, its not the government, having nothing or government policies that you dont agree with or which make like hard don't give you a right to raise your kids as little fecking thugs with no respect for society.

I grew up in a family of 5 on a council estate in 80's Ireland, none of my mates went to college, my Dad wasn't around for half my life (he was forced to work abroad), we had sweet feck all, but none of us ended up anything other than contributing members of society (we've all worked our entire adult lives and never been in trouble).... And thats not a poor me story, I know other people who had it much tougher than we did, alcoholic and abusive parents who also went on to live decent lives.

I'm not saying its not hard for some people it is, its very hard and some things in society are very wrong and do contribute to things like this, but your attitudes and values are primarily instilled in your family, society is part of the problem but saying its the root cause isn't right IMO, the people ARE society, its not external to us.

Deary me.

This women on BBC news has been talking about further education for a while and finally says "it's nothing to do with this"

I thought you didn't want normal folk turning into vigilantes?

There is a difference between people guarding their properties etc. than people creating a posse and going toe to toe with those intent on causing mayhem.

Finally! People fighting back! Dalston is being guarded by turkish men, protecting theur businesses. Dalston has as a result calm down.

I was just about to ask if there were people fighting back.

Of course it's not justified. Trying to understand why it's happening, though, is a useful exercise. The more people dismiss the kids brought up on those estates as underclass sub-human chav scum, the more likely they are to act like them.

Thats a chicken and egg isn't it, they're acting already like underclass sub-human chav scum, lets try understand why rather than simply labelling them victims of an unequal society.

I still fail to understand why people feel the need to pose with what they've taken. I understand that these people aren't the brightest, but still... common sense must kick in somewhere?

Did I just hear the woman now talking on BBC saying the police are racist? I assume it was a viewer comment or something, but why do people insist on talking about organisations as single minds? fecking idiots.

They don't care and have no idea of fear what so ever.

Yeap. I wish they'd show some live pictures.
