win this, and we're virtually in the QF's

We could then afford to lose to Juve away and draw with Depor.

Assuming we also beat Basle at home of course.

Not that I expect us to do it anything other than the hard way of course.

Still, these are the ,matches we should all look forward to. Great nights in Europe. <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" /> :D

i think we are going to win this 2-0. and my prediction was 2-0 when we faced deportivo and it was correct!

UEFA MATCH PREVIEW

United renew Juve rivalry

Manchester United FC and Juventus FC renew an old rivalry when the UEFA Champions League second group stage resumes on February 18 with Matchday Nine.

Eventual group winners
The English Premiership side and the Italian champions occupy the two qualifying positions in Group D and their meeting on 19 February at Old Trafford, followed by the return in Turin on 25 February, will go a long way to determining the eventual group winners.

Old rivalry
The two sides have met six times in the Champions League, the last time being in the 1998/99 semi-finals when United recorded a 4-3 aggregate win.

Busy winter programme
United currently hold a two point lead over Juve, having convincingly won their opening two games and go into the encounter on the back of a FA Cup tie against domestic rivals Arsenal FC. The busy winter programme in England has taken its toll on a number of Sir Alex Ferguson players, with goalkeeper Fabien Barthez, winger Ryan Giggs and midfield player Paul Scholes all suffering injury complaints.

Del Piero sidelined
Juve will be without their influential striker Alessandro Del Piero who had been in impressive form. The Italian international had scored 12 goals in Serie A and four times in seven games in Europe until he pulled a thigh muscle, sidelining him until mid-March.

This is the new list of the unavailable players for Manchester’s match:

Alessandro Del Piero (muscle injury)
Igor Tudor (ankle problems)
Mark Iuliano (flu)
Gianluigi Buffon (flu)
Alessandro Birindelli (flu)
Gianluca Zambrotta (flu)
Marcelo Salas (flu)
Marco Di Vaio (flu)
Ruben Olivera (at Viareggio’s tournament with Primavera)
Matteo Paro (at Viareggio’s tournament with Primavera)

:)

Probable Teams:

MANCHESTER UNITED

--------------------Barthez----------------------

G.Neville-----Brown-----Ferdinand-------Silvestre

Beckham-----------Keane(c)-----Scholes------Giggs

------------van Nistelrooy------Solskjær---------

Subs: Caroll, O'Shea, P.Neville, Butt, Richardson, Pugh, Forlan.

JUVENTUS

------------------ Chimenti----------------------

Thuram-----Ferrara(c)-----Montero--------Pessotto

Camoranesi------Tacchinardi-----Davids-----Nedved

--------------Trezeguet----Zalayeta--------------

Subs: Bonnefoi, Fresi, Zenonie Conté.

Hope this match goes ahead tomorrow. On MUTV, they said that Lippi has just stated that he can not rule out asking UEFA for a postponement of the match because of the flu virus sweeping through the squad.

Juventuz.com is under protection from a denial of service attack. You may get this warning from time to time, just refresh the page in a couple seconds

I read it fast at first and thought it said "Juventuz.com is under protection from attack" and thought that there had been an attack on there from here <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

I'm in the East Stand Upper for this one. I've been buzzing for ages. Until the weekend. Now I'm just plain nervous again!

The script is written for Giggs and Becks to have storming games. Unfortunately that many people have said so, they'll probably have nightmares!

Yours in jitters

Prediction: 4-4 and a pile of fingers nails and hair left under my seat

Even if they have several sick players, I wonder how the United team has recovered from the Beckham-Ferguson incident. It's not good to prepare an important game in those conditions. Not good for the concentration. It could have serious consequences in the season.

thats hilarious
theres juve fans from Derby <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Just how lucky are you <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />
With all these players you might well have a chance against Juve and be clear for the semis.

Gianluigi Buffon, Alessandro Birindelli, Gianluca Zambrotta, Marcelo Salas, Marco di Vaio, Lilian Thuram, David Trezeguet, Alessio Tacchinardi and Damiano Zenoni will be missing.
Some juniors took a flight to Manchester so they'll have some players on the bench too.

Considering our players are surely troubled with the recent events, it will be equality I think.

Yes, because the press and our rivals will insist on that.

Well, nothing special, current international events don't put me in a great mood, not to mention our defeat vs Arsenal (sorry to put that on the same level).

BTW there's a thread about you, recently opened by Livvie, who was worried about you. ;) .

livvie.. ahhhhhh she's the worrying type ;)

well.... i thought drawing with city was worse!! iam still sick!!

anyway, whats your prediction for tonight?i think we'll win 3-1 :D

:( It is on the same level for me...

Even with half of Juve's team out with flu...

THERE ARE NO EASY GAMES IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

I think that it makes it harder for us that they have so many players out. It means we have it all to lose, and how much harder will they be trying now? If we get an early goal there is a good chance that they'll crumble and we'll end up getting a load. The longer it stays at 0-0 though the more confident they'll get and the more edgy we'll get - the players will start snatching at shots, etc, which I think is what happened on Saturday.

It's a difficult one to call, I was going to say 3-1 to us but now I think that we'll win 2-0

Good luck Man Utd

Be careful ;)

It's not just that, we wont have a clue how they are going to play now. Any studies that have been done on them have gone out of the window.

Exactly, and their players will try so much harder to prove that they should be in the first team rather than the reserves. Just look at Charlie Dimmock on Saturday and the graft that he put in

Even with their players out they can still field a strong team that will be well drilled and hard to break down. Its also a chance for the back up players to make a name for themselves and we're not exactly on top form. I think we'll win 3-1 but it wont be as easy as some people seem to think, remember, their reserves beat Arsenal :D

The probable lineup:

Chimenti
Thuram (???)
Ferrara (???)
Montero
Pessotto
Camoranesi
Tacchinardi
Davids
Nedved
Trezeguet
Zalayeta

Bench:
Bonnefoi
Fresi
Gastaldello
Conte
Paro
Zenoni
Oliveira

Coach Lippi

Except for Conte and Zenoni I've never heard any other names on the bench

But it also works the other way around. As time goes, assuming we do have more of the play, we'll se a tired Juve side with nobody to bring on. They'll run and run but it's unlikely they'll cope for the full 90 minutes IMO, unless they score the first goal.

Ref tonight is Kim Milton Nielsen. So Beck's had better watch his p's & q's. If selected.

Right, I'm off home & then to the match.

Come on you Reds!
