He was good enough. He had proved he could do well in big games. He had won everything including the CL some say he's not good enough to win it. He has just come to O.T. at a period when he had personal problems and too many injuries. Also he has faced Real at the wrong moment, when he less good after an excellent year (uncertain two days before) and when Zidane/Raul/Ronaldo/Figo were at the top. To see Fab nervous for a big game, that's not the real Fabien ! I'm convinced he could have made it but may be as years go by, considering he has begun his career very young, he will have too many lapses of form.
Whether or not Barthez is good enough, he is old enough such that we must begin the search for a replacement. The right time to search is when the player is at his peak, not after. Just like we are now looking for the next Giggs and Beckham.
