In some cases, I'd maybe be up for something different and taking a risk, but if there's a time for us to play it safe and go for someone with experience then it's now.
Moyes had several flaws, some of which included trying to emulate Fergie too much, not believing he was good enough and just seeming "happy to be here", as well as a lack of experience at the very top level. Giggs would have all of those; in fact you can argued it'd be magnified with him since he has no experience as a manager, and will know that he's merely got the job because of his legendary status so won't really feel like he deserves it, and he'll probably try to emulate Fergie because the only other manager he's played under is the not so legendary David Moyes. In some cases, player appointments have worked (ie Dalglish), but I'm really not sure this one will.
When Real Madrid knock out Bayern tonight, Van Gaal will be the only remaining option, and the club will cave to his demands. (probably)

No matter what he says on twitter now he can't win the argument, people can come up with a million different counter-logics. Not really agreeing with his side of the argument per se mind. But he should've remained silent and kept his dignity rather than raging online and losing the respect of some fans...The only thing that matters is Manchester united. There's part of me that feels the club has a lot of moving on to do. All this baggage - 442, width, Britishness, Scottishness, pace, longevity, 26 years, etc etc While we have to use what we've gained in the last 25 years and a lot of the virtues are useful, it's as if a lot of people have it set in stone how some things about Manchester United have to be. No room for evolution or deviation let alone something entirely new. I don't think all our values and philosophies of Saf's time are bad, in fact most of them are great and been part of the clubs best times, but I don't like close minded ness. If you're close minded you tend to live in the past and get left behind.

whats wrong with Fergie's ideals? It served us well for 26 years. Just because Moyes didnt work out, doesnt mean that we need to go back to the drawing board completely

If(when?) LvG is officially appointed, I hope Gary swallows his pride and gets behind the appointment as he did with Moyes, and not undermining him every time we hit a bump. I also don't want to hear Gollum's name in 5 minute intervals everytime we're playing a game now.

It didn't serve us too well in Europe lately. Bayern for example after losing 2 CL finals in 3 years decided that not only do they want to be among the best in Europe, but THE best and then started making changes. Fergie has left a healthy squad and thanks to him we are in a financially healthy Situation, even after the Moyes debacle. But if we want to be REALLY successful and want to win CL again, maybe even more than 1 in a decade, we HAVE to move on.

Ding ding ding! This incredibly obvious yet important acknowledgement seems oblivious to many. Neville is talking out of his arse, yet again.
These past few days have, now more than ever, confirmed to me that we need a total revamp throughout the club, from the way it portrays itself to the way the football is played on the field. I've sneered at the "rebuild" rhetoric all season, but perhaps a rebuild actually is needed, just not in the way it was initially described.
Qualifying for the CL would be nice.
I didn't say they were wrong. But we don't need to strictly abide by it like schools children from here on. It's just a feeling I get that some are obsessed with those ideals. Clubs evolve all the time and always have.
I'm not keen on dynasties they usually come crashing down to earth. Sometimes you have to change, move with the times.
To be fair, Fergie seemed to have started to crack Europe in his last 5 years at the club. In that time we won the CL and made two finals where we were unlucky to be twice drawn against one of the best teams in history. There were quite a few years where we were genuinely unlucky in the latter end of the knockout stages. His biggest mistake was not investing as much as he should have in the squad (see midfield) and instead stubbornly sticking to his current crop or 'value' players.
Fergie was not stuck in the past...he was always thinking ahead..planning ahead....and no one was better than him in tactics. He tried to get the players he needed to fit his plans.

I feel it would be a mistake to try and find a new Fergie. The club need to judge possible candidates on their own merit, not on how close they are to Fergie in ideas and qualities.
This. His record stands up to scrutiny. 2 CL final wins, losing finalists. Made semis loads.
His biggest mistake, if you could call it that, was having too much faith in certain players towards the end. But maybe at that point he wanted to leave it to the incoming manager knowing that he may have different ideas.
That's what I mean. After losing to Barca in 2009 he should have strenghtend our midfield, but he didn't even do it after losing to them in 2011. He signed Ashley bloody Young but refused to pay Hazard's agent a year later. The 2012 CL group stage disaster should also have never happened. As I said, our old school thinking and refusal to move on has held us back since 2009/10. We now need to do what we did in 2006/2007: Keep our strenghts and combine it with a new approach (Queiroz). Get rid of the past (Keane, RvN in 2006). Now SAF isn't the manager anymore and we won't get any new approach from his Class of 92 who only know his way. So we need someone else to freshen up things. It's not like LvG is buying the club, we still have SAF and Sir Bobby as "Directors", one of Giggs/Scholes will probably stay and LvG would be fine with it (but not all of them ffs, they are welcome to train our kids though and work their way up). LvG also favours wing play, attacking football and youth, the perfect combination to maintain our values AND to freshen up things.
