United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

A bit out there but maybe the club is trying to get some transfers done to announce along with the new manager. Wishful thinking, I know.

Maybe but it wouldn't make any sense to do that. It'd look as if the manager walked in the door with the new signings.

Talk Bollocks still going with their exclusive and interviewing anyone who may have met him once.

Hopefully we're not waiting to see if someone "better" becomes available. I can't believe we are as we know we have to move on quickly this summer. Even though reports claimed we'll be looking to make certain signings regardless, a player like Shaw would surely like to know who the manager is going to be. Maybe we really are just wanting to finish the season for whatever reason, like certain changes Van Gaal has already decided on. Last year everyone knew City were getting Pellegrini but it dragged on a bit while they also signed players (whether they were his call or just the sporting directors, who knows).

I mean a player or 2 will announced in the same week, not the same time. To help sell season tickets and the new kit. It's good PR really.

Netherlands have their first World Cup warm-up game in 10 days. I can see it getting pushed back to then too. In fact I'd not be shocked if it was pushed back to a point where we all agree that it's probably been agreed it'd be too much of a distraction for the Dutch if it was announced prior to the World Cup

Next monday would seem to be the best time to announce it, we sacked Moyes on a monday night, confirmed it Tuesday morning. So best to get the season out of the way and let Giggsy get the side ready for the weekend without a media circus, any more than we already have.

I don't see why it should wait until then. Van Gaal isn't going to pack up and rush to Manchester whether it's announced today, next week or in two weeks. He's focused on the World Cup, but I'm sure certain things were already agreed like which targets we're going for.

Jesus, people really have no patience here.

ZOMG Everyone panic that we haven't appointed a new manager in the first week of May.

Probably delayed to avoid undermining Giggs whilst he's in temporary charge. I see no issues. Nothing changes.

In all the LVG fuss I see Clermont in Ligue 2 have hired a female coach.

It's panic because we can be the only reason for our own delay. It's not as if he has to negotiate release terms of anything like that. He's a free agent and can do what he likes and we have a vacancy. Constantly pushing it back just seems needlessly arbitrary. It might be for no or for good reason but from the outside in I think it looks a bit odd to delay something that we could literally announce any time we wanted.

Why get the season over, doing it now would affect nobody. Unless we wanted to wait until after this pre-World Cup camp/announcement for Holland but then surely logically then waiting until after the warm up games were finished would make more sense?

LVG WILL be United manager. Just because it's not being announced this week, doesn't mean it's not going to happen. United never confirmed it was going to be announced this week anyway. It was all media speculation. So, sit tight, look forward to the game on Sunday and the official announcement will come once the season is over.

It does seem odd though. The fact we've got a vacancy isn't a secret. The fact he's leaving the Dutch job after the World Cup isn't a secret. I just don't know what the purpose behind all these delays are. I accept that negotiations are complex and take time but it's been a 'done deal' according to those quite reliable for some time now. The fact that they've now pushed it back into next week seems strange. What can happen/change between now and next week? When next week why not push it back another week?

I'm worried if it means we're trying to see who else is out there and could end up being told to piss off by van Gaal or that our apparent reluctant to get it closed down will see him snapped up by another top club. We're not the only big job that'll be available soon. He says he wants to manage in England but who knows if he won't be tempted to elsewhere if the right offer came his way.

When everything relies solely on us, arbitrarily pushing the deal back makes me suspicious.
It is worrying, it makes you wonder what the reasons could be.
  • The club is hedging its bets to see if anyone else becomes available.
  • Van Gaal is waiting to see Woodward put his money where his mouth is before he commits - maybe he has a shopping list and needs at least one or more signatures off that list before he will sign.
  • They are still negotiating about what specific role Giggs will play. That could mean either a) Van Gaal needs convincing about Giggs or b) Giggs hasnt made up his mind what he wants to do yet, and everyone needs a final decision from him before they can proceed.
  • The "smokescreen" theory: we arent actually after Van Gaal at all, and Big Sam wont put pen to paper until the end of the season.
  • Van Gaal is so obnoxious he has already caused a rift with Woodward and they cant stand being in the same room together to finalise the details.
Im running out of possible theories here. But there has to be a reason.

Manchester United will appoint Louis van Gaal their new manager next week - after end of Premier League season
Manchester United have settled on Louis van Gaal as the successor to David Moyes but will not make a formal announcement until after the end of the Premier League season

By Mark Ogden

The club have settled on the 62-year-old Dutchman as the successor to David Moyes but will not make a formal announcement until after the end of the Premier League season.

Ryan Giggs will remain United's interim manager for their final game, against Sunderland on Sunday.

Giggs must then negotiate his own future at the club, which could involve remaining as a player, coach, or both, or leaving to pursue his managerial career elsewhere.

Van Gaal is coach of the Dutch national team, who he will take to the World Cup before officially taking over at Old Trafford.

He is currently overseeing a pre-World Cup training camp in Hoenderloo, from where he is due to give a press conference next Wednesday.

United may seek to time his appointment so that he is confirmed before he speaks to the media then.

Although he will not officially take over until July, and is determined not to allow United to affect his approach to his current job, it is inevitable he will plan the club's summer transfer strategy with chief executive Ed Woodward.

United suffered badly in the transfer market last summer, never recovering from Moyes's appointment being made in July, and making only one major signing, Marouane Fellaini, whose difficult first season has seen him labelled "The Lampshade" by fans.

United never announced Van Gaal was actually going to be the manager either. If you are dismissing one example of media speculation, why are you so convinced about the authenticity of another example of media speculation?

I think itll happen FWIW but you cant be sure.

It seems that we are extending our policy of leaking every piece of news to the Nth degree - this could be the first managerial appointment in the world never to actually be officially confirmed. We'll just keep on flooding the media with info, and then one day he'll turn up for work and nobody will be surprise.

Don't worry, although not formally announched (will do next week), he and woody have been working ob transfers.

That us crucial.

A Monday announcement is fine by me. Should keep us more in the news than whichever bunch of cnuts wins the league.

Hopefully everything is agreed and Ed is already working on the transfers, it would be a great way to end the season, a new manager and top quality players.

This is the important thing. I'm convinced van Gaal has already signed a deal and Woodward has been given a list of transfer targets.

Now it is up to that joker to prove he's not Garry Cook II and actually fulfil van Gaal's wishes for when he comes into the job late summer. No repeat of the Moyes/Woodward debacle of last year.

Still, if everything is agreed why delay? All it does it creates a distraction for Van Gaal when he is supposed to be focusing on Holland. This was something he was allegedly specifically keen to avoid. So what changed?

Just announce it the day City or Liverpool win the league. We will cover the back pages and not their trophy celebrations.

My feeling is that all the negotiations are done and finished and all that needs to be done is the formal contact signing and announcement.

Woody has probably already had a handshake agreement with Van Gaal.

To announce the manager and a new signing would be pretty immense. I'm hoping a Van Gaal/Luke Shaw double combo.

Not happening. Every summer it's the same thing when we're waiting for a signing and people speculate hopefully we're waiting for another deal to make a double announcement.

Why? They already know he's going to be leaving the Dutch team after the World Cup.

That's not true though is it? If City win, we may take some of their column inches.

But if Liverpool win it will be illegal to report anything else, or for any member of the media to stop masturbating until at least the start of next season.

After seeing Wilson last night and Lawrence hold his own, now that VG has all but been signed its a very promising start to the summer!! :)

We've some talented youngsters there to come through, with VG nurturing their in good hands there!!

I'm not saying we're holding off on announcing the manager to accommodate a signing announcement too, just that it'd be pretty cool if it were to happen, especially after the clusterf**k of last summer.

I think it's already a done deal, but United wants the squad to focus on their last game with Giggs as the manager. This should be announce after the last game
