United v. Oxford

Rossi, imo, is almost "wasted" as a striker, as a attacking midfielder he'd be brilliant, with his excellent passing, vision, technique etc!

Yeah but he has a goal-a-game record for the reserves! If only he could transfer that form to the first team.. His best position's probably Rooney's best position i.e. just off the front man.

We'll surely need a +20 goal-a-season-striker
I heard that Van Nistlerooy at Real Madrid is good, certified 20+ a season ....

Like a forward, (Rooney role) or like a midfielder (Scholes role)?

As a midfielder, I think he is too lightweight.
IMO he's the perfect replacement of Scholes. They play very similar. Rossi is better when he drops deep, sprays passes around and gets into the penalty box rather than waiting for the ball. His vision is excellent, and similar to Scholes, he's got a brilliant football brain

no. size-wise, he is very much like Scholesy when he was breaking through.
they way Rossi plays other players through is just class, and is about the same stature as Scholes

Jones shows what he's all about as usual. Good composed passing, Saha could have had a hatrick off Jones' passes alone.

Scoring order for United: Solskjaer (1-0), Ronaldo (2-0), Fletcher (3-0), Ronaldo (4-1).
Good man... very helpful

Rossi and Jones look really comfortable. Jones was exceptional tonight and looked good every time he touched the ball. The pass for the second goal was weighted perfectly and he looks very promising. Even though Rossi didn't play much tonight, everytime he gets the ball he seems to create things. His vision is excellent. I know it was against a pretty shit team in all honesty but it was very enjoyable to watch these two.

whats ronnies second like? COMON RONNIE, were there cheers or boos?

Ronaldo's second was assisted on the edge of the box then cooly slotted in from about 15 yards out. Dave Jones, about central on the edge of the box, slipped a pass through 2 defenders to Ronaldo who curled it round the keeper with his first touch. There was a standing ovation from United fans when he left the pitch but nothing but boos from the 20 or so Oxford fans.

Nice to see Ronaldo get a good reception from the fans. Some fans on here must have been gutted.

All the ones predicting united's apocalypse with glee :D

 feck it's gonna be amazing if Ronnie is out to prove a point all season

Cronaldo looked like he had a point to prove. I am glad he has seen past his earlier commitment issues, knuckled down and scored 2 good goals as well as looking to play others in. Perhaps the numpties will leave him alone. Probably not.
Saha was good, I can see why he gets injured though. He goes in like Smith.
Bardsley was superb. Jones, good but will get much better with a few games.
Gabby and Micky looked rusty, naturally enough.
Oxford looked better than a team that's dropped out the arse end of the league, well done to their players.

Well, maybe a little bit of the Becks treatment is all he needs to find some urgency in his play...and who knows, the fans sticking up for him might show him how lucky he is...might be just what the young man needs.

When abused at Benfica last year, he seemed to wallow in it.

But now with Portugal, and presumably against Oxford (I've not seen it yet), he was revelling in it.

Excellent. We'll get the siege mentality into these kids after all!

They are two brilliant finishes. First one was more than a finish, it was a spectacular shot, infact.
