United vs Celtic

I think he will Fletcher on the right this game to help Scholes and Carrick in the middle.

Thats right, he can't play, but it is great to see Rooney and Scholesy back. Can't wait to watch it tomorrow night, hope Rooney treats it like hius 1st ever Champs LEague game for us again :D

2-0. RonneyX2

---------------VDS

NEV-------RIO-------WES--------EVRA

PARK---SCHOLES---CARRICK---FLETCH

--------------RONNEY

---------------SAHA

I can see him resting Giggs. Carrick, Scholes, Ronney all need the games. The only other posibility is resting Saha but I don't see it happening.

Getting 3 points is far too important than resting players for the Arsenal game. A good start in the Champions League is crucial this season, dropping silly points on the first game at home would not be the ideal start.

If United are as flat as they were against Spurs then this is going to be a tricky game.

SAF may want to rest some players like Saha,Rio and Giggs so that is a worry.
He also might also try Carrick and Scholes as a central midfied. That may be a risk as Graveson, Lennon and Jarosik will be tough.

If he plays a team like this then I predict a scrappy 1-0 win for United.

Neville ---Silvestre---Wes----Evra
Fletcher ---Carrick---Scholes---Park
-------Ole------Rooney--------------

To be fair though United had a load of players away for their countries, they had 1 day to prepare for the Spurs game, Spurs are probably better than Celtic and Rooney and Scholes are back.

Is what we'll play I reckon.

Fletch tucking in to make three in midfield and help Scholesy and Carrick out.
Which is a shame, be brave Fergie, play with width

Fergie could give players like Giggs or Saha a rest and play Ole. I personally would like to see Jones.

Ronaldo wont play

i can understand the thinking behind resting players, but isn't it too risky and is there any need??

there's only 4 fixtures so far so no one needs a rest, and there's no need to change a winning routine.

We thought last years champions league was going to be easy - lets not get complacent this time.

HI Guys

It would be a big mistake to rest players, if you do and drop points, you could end chasing it.

Personally i think it will be a very tight game and I can see Celtic taking a point. Probably the key to this section is how Benfica will be this year after taking a 3-0 doing from Boavista.

porto are the worst I've ever seen, absolutely unbeleivable. Must be a portuguese thing. By the way did you know the ref for the Man Utd v Celtic game is the same weak CNUT that allowed Porto to dive all over the feckin place in the UEFA final 3 years ago. Lubos Michel the syphilitic Cnut.

I think we will have the same 11 starting but in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Gaz----Wes----Rio----evra

Rooney----Scholes----Giggs

With Rooney, scholes, saha and giggs rotating places amongst themselves.

As apul Scholes is back,we will have more good ball movements from center.
This is something what we missed in our last three games.

I think we will win this 3-0

wow a decent conversation - rather than the shiit on Red Issue - "you IRA cuunt - our firm are gonna do all Celtic supporters - No Surrender!" - its relentless over there!

good to see there are decent united supporters like I thought!

Think you lot are being over confident. I think Celtic can show you a very hard physical game which you will struggle to take a point from.
C'MON THE HOOPS 0-2 VoH, Gravesen

I think it'll be a pretty physical game, which I'll be happy to see. But overall I think we'll pull through in the end. All it takes is one smart pass from anyone of our players and it's over. :D

Gravesen will definitely try to impose himself tonight though, but I'm not sure he'll have the speed to handle Scholes and Carrick.

Btw, a warm welcome to the Celtic fans!

This is what I mean!!:D
Do you lot not think that our players are capable of smart defence splitting passes??
With Gravesen, Nakamura and McGeady there is plenty of quality there to open ANY side up!!
COME ON BHOYS

With Smith partnering Rooney we should have all the steel needed not to be overrun by Celtic's superior physical power + such formation would enable us to rest Giggsie and Saha.

I agree, your side can do the same, but I don't think you are hitting your form yet, so my opinion is that you won't have enough possession on the ball to get your chances this leg.

But we'll see! I believe Gravesen is class and can do the job for you. Nakamura's passing and vision will help, but Rooney and Saha both drop back into midfield, and both can help control the flow and Rooney help shutdown your midfield.

If Smudger gets some time tonight it'll be even tougher for you.

Anything's a bonus for us. I'd be delighted with a draw tbh. We have yet to even get a point away from home in the Champions league in 9 attempts so to earn our first point at Old Trafford would be terrific.

Roooooooooooney !

I'm buzzing big time!

I'm buzzing generally cos the atmosphere will be awesome, and I'll be right in the thick of it in the Stretford End. And I'm buzzing cos I've taken the missus to a few games but none as big as this.

But, most of all, I'm buzzing cos I still havent seen Rooney live! Mad as it seems every game I went to last year he missed. It did my head in believe me. He'd better not stub hi stoe in the warm up :nervous:

Roooooooooooooney :D

Glad you're being realistic my jockenese friend. I did raise an eyebrow when I checked your clan's forum; nearly all your fellow Celtic fans were unbelievably optimistic :nono:

Come down in your numbers like you've been doing for years. Enjoy every minute and get totally leathered as always, but please please dont pin your enjoyment of the trip on some miraculous win. (god sakes, I can picture your reply tomorrow if we feck up tonight  )

Really buzzing, and really looking forward to finally seeing a competitive match between these two great great clubs.

ENJOY (but not too much eh!)

:D

looking forward to this one indeed, don't think it will be a drubbing, and no breeze, it wil be tight, as usual in CL (lately, anyway)

2-0 (Rooney & O'Shea late on)

Obviously this all depends on who is fit but here is my opinion from the newbie forum:

Obviosuly Roon and Scholes have to come back in but I'm not so sure about a lot of the other players. We need to rest players for Arsenal and it depends on who is match fit tonight.

I would rest Giggs so he is sharp for the Arsenal match.

Neville is an abvious starter but we don't know just how fit he is yet after his few weeks off (maybe a substitution).

Carrick, he looks like he needs some match fitness as he tired against Tottenham. However whats best for him? Start on the bench or get subbed off? Play the whole match or just be rested? How will he be most fit for the Arsenal match or will it not make a difference - should we just be trying to get him fit for the long term? Also O'shea might do well with a rest. He always does well against Le ARSE so lets keep him fresh.

My team:
--------Kuszack
Nev---RIO---BROWN---Silvestre
Ole---O'Shea (sitting)---Carrick---Evra
---------Roon
---------------Saha

Evra will add some bite to midfield with O'Shea rested and it should do away with his positional weaknesses. Silvestre at Left Back should help us in the air and he should be safe enough with another defender in front of him.

Depending on the scoreline and how cauyious/adventurous we need to be I would make the following subs:

Finish looking like
4-1-2-3
----------Kuszack
Brown---Rio---Silvestre---Evra/Heinze
----------O'Shea
------Scholes---Richardson/Park/Fletcher
------Ole---Smith---Rooney

If Scholes and Park are unfit I would start with:

------------Kuszack

Neville---Brown---Rio---Silvestre

Ole---JOS---Carrick---Evra

------Rooney
-------------Saha

Neville and O'shea to get 20 or 30 mins off at the end and hopefully Heinze can get a run out for the same amount of time. If Heinze is on the bench I would want to sub him on at the end give him 20 mins, maybe he'll be fit for Arsenal that way. If not but Vidic is there then the same goes for him.

Nev comes off at the end for a rest so hes sharp for Arsenal, same with Carrick - put on Fletcher or O'Shea depending on how well we are doing in CM.

Saha off for Smith or Ole at the end, rest Saha for Arsenal and get Ole or Smith some minutes.

Also despite not playing I would have Jones on the bench just to show him he is valued

Celtic look strong in attack but weak at the back. I think their defence will let them down against Rooney et all but we need to be careful at the back. We have been weak in the air recently and with Gravesen and Nakamura throwing balls in to Hesselink we could be in danger.

This is why I would put Silvstre in at LB (extra height) and Evra at LW to add some bite and tackle Naka out of the game. Out Central midfield need to have a good game against Gravesen IMO (a player we should have got).

3-0 I reckon...

We will piss this game I think. I wasn't half as confident for the tie against Spurs, as I am for this...
