US (Trump) wants to buy Greenland from Denmark

Denmark offers to buy U.S.

“As we have stated, Greenland is not for sale", a spokesperson for the Danish government said on Friday. “We have noted, however, that during the Trump regime pretty much everything in the United States, including its government, has most definitely been for sale. Denmark would be interested in purchasing the United States in its entirety, with the exception of its government".

If Denmark’s bid for the United States is accepted, the Scandinavian nation has ambitious plans for its new acquisition. "We believe that by giving the U.S. an educational system and national health care it could be transformed from a vast land mass into a great nation,” the spokesperson said.
fecking hell

I hope they keep them far away, Greenland is the most important place when it comes to climate change, letting the US plunder it would be catastrophic.

It's alright Trump, England is for sale anyway

The President of the USA wants to buy Greenland from Denmark and most of the very serious media is saying 'well, I can't see Denmark wanting to sell!'.

Cause apparently that's the relevant bit... It's not the views of the Greenlanders who are overwhelmingly Inuit and don't consider themselves Danish.

I hate this so much. Greenland is a struggling place and it is so distasteful to see it being talked about so flippantly by powerful people just because it's the US President's latest fascination.

Delusional.

Isn't Greenland vulnerable going forward? With its increasing value won't it be vulnerable to a Russia, USA or China invading? What would Denmark be able to do about that?

Well Denmark, and by extension Greenland, is NATO member state. It's not exactly a Crimea situation.

Denmark army is actually very well prepared and equipped. And they still have mandatory conscription in Denmark, which means every citizen have at least some basic knowledge of how to properly shoot a weapon.
In fact, their air force and special corps are seen as one of the world's elite.

Having said that, no country can resist an invasion by USA, Russia or China simply because despite being well prepared and tactically ready, they also have top equipment and they can outnumber anyone in air force, naval force, etc, etc. Plus, the artillery nowadays is so sophisticated and efficient that basically makes defensive infantry tactics totally useless in a matter of minutes.

Not really. There is conscription but very few actually end up going. All males aged 18 will get called in for something like an IQ test, a physical check up and then draw a number. If the number is within a certain range you go into military service for a minimum of four months to a year (I think) depending on the part of the army you join. If the number is within some other range you might get a phone call saying you should join the army, but that's very rare as we have enough volunteers as it is. The final (and largest) range basically means you're not joining. So very few are actually drafted like that.

Can’t take no for an answer so defaults to acting like a child... his base must be so proud.

Thanks for clearing that up. So just because the conscription is mandatory doesn't mean that everyone will be selected to do it. Makes sense due to logistic reasons.

Yes exactly. Everyone goes and get a verdict on whether they're suitable or not, a subgroup then ends up actually joining the military for a bit. Most will be volunteers in the end, as far as I know.

Invade... Greenland? If we reach the point where someone is actually invading Greenland, then all hell has already broke lose and all bets are off in any case.

Trade war will be the next step. Just wait and see. :nervous::lol:
Hmm, wasn't there some massacre that the vikings committed like 1,000 years ago on the American continent? It's payback time now!

They are probably highly reliant on our diabetes medicin so they can try to embargo us.

He may want to buy The Falklands or Gibraltar. How about Scotland or even Northern Ireland? Bojo may sell those.

Whatever NATO and the EU are able to do about it.
