Valencia CF v Manchester United

In the light of the latest news I am fairly confident we'll play Fletcher-Anderson. The back four are obvious with Wes on the right. Nani left. Berba center. So...

-------------------back four----------
Nani---Fletcher---Carrick---???----?????
–--------------------Berba----------------

The safest is Park and O'Shea. But come on! Shouldn't we try and win!?

I say, play Park or Carrick and an attacking player. Where is Obertan? I wouldn't mind playing an out of possition forward. Say Macheda left. Or Nani left and a forward on the right wing.

Yeah yeah. I know. But I have a funny feeling Fergie will do exactly that

I don't think that the "Fletcher-Anderson-Carrick-Gibson-Nani" midfield five is anymore of a winner than "Nani--Fletcher--Carrick--O'Shea--Park" (or Fletcher-Carrick-Park-O'Shea-Nani for that matter) at least the latter might actually win the ball in the middle and have the ball to service Berbatov.

I like the Fletcher Carrick Anderson Nani part. And Gibson may actually be useful if we are going to play deep, but that's the possition that will define how attacking we'll look.
I will say it again. I wouldn't mind Owen with this 4. Or any other forward with Berba

Lets wait and see

Gibson's fine, but not playing deep he doesn't have the discipline for the role. We seen Gibson and Anderson ball chasing against Scunthorpe, I certainly don't see Gibson spending most of 90 minutes sitting in the back four or rushing back to get behind the ball. Better than a striker in the role anyway. Fletcher or Park would be a better linkup player.

Valencia will win the ball and I don't think they'll be as sloppy on the ball as Scunthrope was, so you don't have someone central winning the ball or dropping back from the forward line in the case of Berbatov/Owen.

Well, it's a nice day for it. Bit windy this morning, but the sky is blue, not even a trace of a cloud.

Not a single teacher at my kids' school has gone on strike, so the turnout looks low for that, so even if there are delays for supporters, it shouldn't be too bad I'd expect.

Good. What else?

Lucky bastard, Weaste! Shout your lungs out for us non-goers as well:D

I shall, and some old geezer behind me will probably start having a moan or chuck his cigar at me. :D

I'll take my camera along just in case I bump into any other caftards that are there. I have Ralphie's mobile number, so I'll try at least to have a pint with him.

Have an awesome time Weaste! I'm very jealous! Is the strike affecting you at all?

Shouldn't do, as we're going in a car. Today everything seems to be working as normal where I am apart from the buses - I noticed this morning taking the kids to school that there were no buses. I don't know about the train. Shall wait until 15:00 for the main news on the TV to see what's going on, there could be mass marches in Madrid.

Most of those out in the streets doing the striking and marching are probably unemployed anyway.

Just pretend to be striking passionately with them, line up next to a decent senorita, show her that passion in your voice and who knows where the evening (after the match of course) might take you Weaste! ;)

Park has a very good record in games like this. Picking him wouldn't mean we aren't "going for the win" or that we won't play attacking football.

Michael Owen 'to start in Manchester United v Valencia after Rooney injury'
Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted Michael Owen could start up front for Manchester United against Valencia in the Champions League tonight, with Wayne Rooney having been ruled out with an ankle injury.

I bet he wont start - he ll come later on as a sub

i hope he does not start to be honest - I don't think we will have the midfield capable of supporting a 442 against Valencia. Would only be possible if Carrick or Anderson were on top form, and I don't think that would be the case with either player

I'd be extremely surprised of Owen starts tonight. I expect Gibson will start behond Berbatov with Park and Nani on the wings.

I meant Gibson will provide the shots from distance if we are to play deep. He plays further up the pitch.

I could still see a 4-5-1 with Owen starting:

---------Fletcher--Anderson----------
Nani---------Berbatov----------Park
-----------------Owen------------------

Where Berbatov plays deep.

2-1 to us.

I think this is the toughest test of the season so far, we just have to make sure that we're sensible with our possession, it's not going to cut it against a good team like this to be hoofing the ball upfield like we were on Sunday.

4-5-1, I reckon. Back five of VDS, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra.

Then a central midfield of Gibson, Fletcher and Anderson, with Nani and Park on the wings. Berba up front on his own.

It says nothing of the sort whatsoever. Typical journos.

I dont think Ferdinand will play. He stood up for most of the flight over and disembarked carrying a booster seat. He's still got a bad back.

Damn, would this mean he'd have to stand up in the dugout if he's a substitute?

Any news on the Valencia team? Im pretty sure Banega is still out with injury which is a plus for us.
