Valencia CF v Manchester United

That is a dream back four for most you

not for me. I dont rate Rafael defensively and think he can be a real liability - Im still fuming with him over Munich last year. he still has it all to prove for me.

3 Strikers on the bench. Sex.

It's a fairly useless enterprise to have 3 strikers unless United go gung ho here ... think this really helps the chances of Gibson getting on first.

Looking it one way three players covering the forward three, Four players covering the back eight. O'Shea alone is perhaps secondary cover for five or six positions.

Valencia's lineup according to the Valencia message board I post on

César; Miguel, Maduro, Navarro, Mathieu; Pablo, Albelda, T. Costa, Mata; Domínguez y Soldado

That'll be a 4 4 1 1

Most likely Mata on the left wing, Dominguez in the hole behind Soldado.

CLOSE DOWN TINO COSTA BEFORE HE CAN SHOOT, MOTHERfeckERS.

Rio in Evans out.Fills me with little more reassurance at the back.

Is that Evra and Vidic's side of the defence?

Actually its possible Mata plays behind the striker and Dominguez plays on the right wing with Pablo on the left. In their last match it was Mata in the hole, Pablo left wing and Joaquin on the right. So it could just be Dominguez in for Joaquin who is injured.

And you prefer we play O'Shea who has been time and again skinned by wingers this season and has been poor defensively and can't pass to save his life ahead of him for a mistake he made last year?

Tino Costa plays central midfield, left footed. So it'll be in the middle. He also scored a freekick and hit the post or bar I think it was, with another freekick in the match against Bursaspor. I'm not entirely convinced by his passing range yet, but his shooting is really dangerous.

I am suprised Rafael has been thrown into the deep end for such a huge game, would have gone with Brown.

Yeah, I'd take JOS any time. One of my favourite players and is very experienced with over 60 CL games under his belt.

JOS bashers are basically FM merchants who only understand how to play fantasy football on a PC. And that includes vastly over rating the capability of a talented but still very raw Rafael.

I can see some logic in Rafael playing. 1) he can pin Mata further back, or exploit a lack of tracking back which sometimes happens with Valencia's wingers. 2) With just Soldado up front they wont be nearly as dangerous with headers, so its okay to have small fullbacks 3) Mata is quite quick and Rafael is our quickest right back 4) Mata likes to indent and move inside anyway. A bit like Nani coming in from the left. So some of the time it'll be midfielders having to deal with him instead.

I'm anticipating lots of Berbatov wide, Nani in the middle. As Maduro and Navarro are the two Valencia defenders who can push him around a bit and I dont think he likes that. Plus thats usually where he ends up alone up front. However I wouldnt say either CB has that much pace.

Can see us losing this. Watched Valencia's last game and they are playing some good football.

Good assessment. I hope you are right.

We will win this one no doubt about that, we just need to keep our composure, cut out silly mistakes and most importantly stop conceding free kicks quite early on.

Meh, more likely Fletcher right, Park central like the Arsenal games in 2009.

great to see rafael, anderson and carrick in the lineup. Looks like we'll be overly reliant on nani to produce the goods though, while we see park put in his usual workhorse shift....great

With Rafael, Rio, Carrick and Anderson all looking for form and match fitness, I worry most about this.
