i don't know if it's been pointed out yet but the pitch isn't helping matters - it's slowing everything up and just isn't conducive to a quick short passing game.

You need pace upfront to attack with pace.
The result isn't the problem. The way we are playing is.
Anderson and Carrick don't look fit and we will see them make mistakes in the second (in the first they looked pretty ordinary).
A 0-0 is a great result, but it's more then likely we lose this as Valencia get more confident. That said, they have been very cautious as well.

Thought Anderson was doing well until he was told to stay on Albelda. If only we had Paul Scholes for this match.

Adrian Chiles' constant attempts at humour are starting to bug me.
Surace is fine, might not be the best but the ball isn't doing crazy stuff.
Except he hasn't though.
Not the best match I've ever seen it has to be said.
It says it all when our keeper has seen as much of the ball as any of our midfielders. We are doing a good impersonation of the 'blast it up the pitch at the tall/fast guy' routine that Rafa made famous at the scouse. We need to get the ball down and play it and try to get a grip on the match.

A fully fit Carrick in form will do wonders for our defence. Fletcher needs to show himself more.
Not necessarily breaking with pace but getting the ball in the box early, too many times that half we had a chance to cross and ended up taking another 2 touches.
Been fairly predictable so far, which is a good thing (not football-wise obviously). Watch us nick one in the 2nd.

I just wish Anderson would use his pace more to attack the defence, there was a point in the half where there was no one near him and was thinking 'Go on run and attack them' but no he always chooses to pass it straight away.

Very happy with Rafael though.
I can't see us scoring. I would move Anderson back alongside Carrick and Fletcher and play 4-3-3 rather than 4-2-3-1.
I think we've done ok to be honest. Valencia have got behind us once or twice but we were never going to contain them all game. Parks been very disappointing and we should look to change that but otherwise we've played alright without being spectacular.

Yeah Rafael's been fine, as has Rio. The rest of thems passing has been diabolical

Gibson/O'Shea to central midfeild ... push Fletcher/Anderson wide
Bring on Macheda/Hernandez and play them wide
Bring on any striker and go 4-4-2
Bring on O'Shea, Gibson or Smalling and Go 3-5-2
Bring Ronaldo on.

I'm a massive fan of Nani but how folk can argue that he wasn't one of the worst players on that pitch in the first half is beyond me.

atleast we'll get shots on goal!Why are we so clueless and wasteful in possession...I'd rather see us go sideways and back (Arsenal triangles) than keep gifting them the ball in dangerous positions.

Rafael, Berba, Anderson and Rio have been been quite good IMO. Vidic and Evra have been alright.
Fletcher, Carrick and Nani have been poorer than you would hope. Park has looked like a kid out there, outpaced and outmuscled time and time again.
Anderson might be playing a bit high up in the field, but I reckon that is because he is told to. All in all, not a very good half from us, although Valencia haven't looked very frightening either.

It'd be nice if we could stop trying to play 40 yard passes out of defence, they ain't frigging working.
love to see us go 442 now, get berba a partner up top, pushes them back a bit, and can get more fluency in our play.. its just so dull at the moment
