Varchester City 18/19 discussion

Congrats to Man City. We traded blows for months now but you pipped us to the post. No shame in losing the league to this team. I hope we beat you next season

i wouldn't say that after this season. getting those players to perform is also a challenge of its own. they really did deserve to win it.
Not saying they didn't deserve to win it, as they were up against a team who had everything going for them.

My comment was based on his style of football.

Congratulations City fans. Regardless of the controversies, 198 points to gain back to back league titles will probably never be matched.

He is a coach who needs the very best players to succeed. But when he does get those players, he gets his system going and always succeeds. Nothing wrong in that.
yes.

Thats why i said having WC players in nearly every position helps. Not sure what i said different to what you've posted.

Not sure we’ll manage to get over 90 points next season so I’ll have to hope there’s a drop off from your lot.
Hopeless hope I tell you. Anything less than 95 you not even in a title challenge. They've gotten 98 points with their best players injured for pretty much the whole campaign.

Just wondering, how would Klopp and Poch fair in similar circumstances? Would they get 'the team going' too / better?

A team littered with true winners and real characters. I would take their entire squad and swap it with ours without a moments hesitation. It beggars belief how our board have sat back let them get this good and watch us get worse.

Probably yes, but not to the extent of absolute domination Pep has. Klopp might do that, but I doubt he would have the consistency that Pep does in winning trophies. At the moment, we have to concede that Klopp is almost tied with Pep as the world's best manager(s).

Definitely not Poch, he is a good manager but even with world class players he would have his dips in form as he is a tier below those two.

But so would Pep if he managed penniless Spurs. No?

Nobody knows how Pep would fare with average players/zero budget. Those who dine at the top table have no need to come down obviously.

That's why we favorably judge those that achieve more with a lot less. Rather than those who are given silver platters. I would argue Poch has bad a better season than Pep and Klopp, even before the final is played.

Nobody bar a few contests that. Still doesn't make Poch a better manager than Pep or Klopp at the moment, though he may well surpass them in the future.

Fair play to the BBC journalist Nathalie Pirks who, when reporting on City's win threw in the fact that they are being by investigated by UEFA under financial fair play.
Oh the pain.
City will receive a transfer ban from FIFA (not UEFA) for irregularities in signing youth players and the investigation the BBC no mark referred to will be thrown out.

Great tussle mate.
Our celebrations are as much about relief as triumph.

How would you know that? He’s hardly likely to take over a mediocre team just to prove a point to numpties on the internet, is he?
In your parallel universe where he does happen to do that it’s my guess that he would improve that squad a long way.

Jury is still out but its never a given. I think you have a slightly stronger starting attack and a better defense but their midfield is a class apart from yours and they have better depth.

Yaya keeps pimping himself out in hope City takes him back.... :rolleyes:He wants that big 250k contract again

In fairness to Yaya he took a 50% pay cut to stay at the club when we were up shit creek with FFP dropping his wages from 200k to 100k per week.

Liverpool of course trying to get the spotlight with their 97 BS, but City this year have been amazing, especially this spring. Just an unstoppable +3 Points Machine.

98 points this 2019, previous season 100. Pep's City, unlike Pep's Bayern, is another classic Pep Team for the ages, just one (big) step below from Barcelona 2008-12, but second best.

Incredible result really. CL still leaves a small stain but overall he's owned the league.

With unlimited funds. :D

Congratulations. Great club great mgr. the best that’s ever been in the PL era. Great season, winning the league and owning your neighbors for years to come. I’m sure that CL trophy is around the corner.

:) Now Now, we know you are still salty at yet again failing to win your first PL trophy. No need to go making wild unqualified statements though. SAF is still the PL's greatest manager, City don't own their own stadium let alone us & Manchester is still red.

Must be a sickener for everyone at City to see Spurs v Liverpool in the final. Without that VAR offside, the quad would’ve been yours imo.

Absolutely crushed. I'm not old enough to have supported City back when they weren't an 'oil rich club'. Started the love affair when I was just 10 years old and it's been 10 whole years of watching us have bad luck in the CL. Tons of my buddies in the States and in London are city fans, the Champions League is what we yearn for. It's still the biggest club trophy out there in terms of prestige. The only reason Liverpool would have preferred the PL is due to the drought. If Liverpool had won 3-4 PL titles, nobody in their right minds would pick the PL over the CL. I just don't understand how we failed to crush Tottenham, I don't think they are a elite level club at all. Very good yes, but City is 100% elite in every area. We are the best club in Europe and it's not fair we are not playing for the top trophy in Europe.

Liverpool finally emerge from wilderness to look like genuine title worthy side, after almost 3 decadres of building and rebuilding and sustained growth., near misses, heartbreaks and countless managers. They finish on 97 points....... And still lose title. While people are still pretending there's nothing wrong with city's doping. Mockery of league

It is what it is. This is what modern football has become and there will be only more oil clubs in the future. The saudis will probably enter the scene at some point as well.

Tough shit tbh.

They go to Old Trafford and don’t play like cowards and they win the league. No excuses.

Klopp would do fine as long as he was allowed to bring in players with the right attitude I reckon.

Hard to say with Pochettino until he lets go of his comfort blanket.

Agree in part but missing the bigger picture a little. At least pool can even try compete. Pretty much every other team outside the top 6 should be being beaten comfortably twice each year. Their points hauls are impressive but are proportionate to the extent they've blown other teams out of any sort of competitive equation.

I am no surprised when they spent net 500 million over 4 years. If they couldn't win the league who can.

If City was as good as that Barca team, City would win the CL. Our best player will be 4th best on that Barca team.

Honestly, I prefer the “less competitive” league where elite sides put up massive points tallies to something like 2015-16 where a bang average Leicester side won it with 81. Made a bit of a mockery of the PL imo.

ahhh net spend trophy, and what is United's net spend in this time?
Doesnt matter net spend is important. There's a difference to sell a good Player to improve. City just phone Sheikh Mansoor and get his checkbook out. FFP? No Problem we just phone our Sponsors to transfer the money

Anyway glad City won the trophy. They are financial doped team, Noone cares if they win. Liverpool win would be unbearable, thanks City
