Some magic FA cup memories on this ground in recent times. Who could forget:

I hope we give the cup a go this year. Obviously it's a distant third on our list of priorities but we haven't even got to the quarters since 99.

I'd like if we did too, its still a good thing to have one-off matches.
But with the spate of knocks picked up over Christmas, I reckon it could be one for Bellion and the boys - which should probably still be good enough mind. Don't think Fergie will be too happy to see it going to a replay though...

I think we'd see a very similar selection to Everton (H).

Bolton are not the easiest team to beat nowadays (looking at their results against the Arse & Chelski) and I think we'd go with a weakened side and have the likes of Ruud & Giggsy on the bench and let them come on if needed.

Bolton are a very good side playing against good teams and a mediocre team playing against mediocre teams. If they would play every match like they do against the top sides they'd be a top 6 side IMO.

Villa are a decent team at best, we should win even playing without some of our key players. I reckon we'll rest a few players, Carroll will probably start in goal and Wes will play. I'd like to see Micky and Gaz rested, won't be much of that for them later on - so a back four looking something like this: Phizza - Rio - Wes - Quinton.

Then perhaps Butt and Djemba at CM, meaning another rest for Keano. I also think it would be wise resting Scholes, especially considering Kleb's good form. Ronaldo and Giggs on the wings with Forlan up front.

Carroll
Phizza Wes Rio Fortune
Ronaldo Butt Djemba Giggs
Kleberson
Diego

Subs: Howard, Gaz, Scholes, Keane, Ruud

Fergie might want to play Fletch directly after his red card though, and perhaps rest Ron for Bolton - I'm sure they have pleasant memories of him. ;)

Carroll
Kleberson Brown Ferdinand(c) Fortune
Butt Djemba-Djemba
Bellion Fletcher Ronaldo
Forlan

Subs: Howard, P.Neville, Scholes, Giggs, van Nistelrooy

This is a good game to give Carroll some time to play and some comfidence.
I want to try Kleberson as a right back in this game, now when Rios suspension soon is coming and Fergie has said that we wont buy any defenders. If he is a good alternative there I mean. Rio gets to wear the captain band for this game. To show him that he has our trust.
Butt and Djemba both need som matches.
I want Fletcher in his "real" position this game. Bellion and Ronaldo both did a good game against Everton.
Then I want that Forlan gets some practice as forward in the 4-2-3-1 system. He needs that.

uh oh.. now I'm worring if it's on TSN or sportnet in Canada....

TSN & Sporstnet definitely will not have it Jacqueline!

As in previous years Setanta will likely be the only carrier making the local pub (if you have one that shows games) your only choice. Unfortunately even that will be limited if the costs are any more than last year . . . Setanta will only sell the pub the whole package, i.e. all games. (Not cheap) The fear for the pub is the big teams (read well supported like the famous Man Utd  ) going out early and revenue suffers.

If you live anywhere near Calgary I'm confident the "Ship & Anchor" will have the games but they may be the only one this year. Cost is usually $10 - $15.

lets rest ruud
play both diego and bellion
would play fletcher if he is not suspended
----------------carroll------------------
--djemba--wes----rio(c) ---oshea
--fletch-------butt-------fortune---------
-------------kleb--------------------------
---------bellio-----forlan-----------------
if fletch is suspended then play kleb in his place and scholesey in klebs postion.
can always have djemba ib mid and oshea on rb and fortune on lb if the djemba experiment works horribly
gotta test djemba at right cause phizz is a middy now

kleb now needs to be told to take responsibility with the young lads to not loose possesion upfront thats where he is behind scholes

Villa's form is picking up, they r at home & they have defeated Chelsea lately, so don't underestimate them....any idea if JOS is available for this one ?

With no radio or television coverage I don't think I'll be waking up at 4.30 to listen to the incoherent ramblings of some posters on here. :snow:

Look mate I once woke up at 4.30 to watch Liverpool 1 Boro 1 and that would probably be more exciting than following the BBC's unreadble match tracker.

Besides I would be risking the wrath of a family member by waking him up by using the computer in his room. Perhaps if someone digs out a radio link (web links won't cut it on 56k) then I may reconsider and lend the forum my expert analysis. :snow:

Its about time that we regain the trophy!

We are the holder of the record of the most wins of the FA Cup... Ever since that Treble season and that debacle for the World Club Championships in Brazil, we have never won it or even come close to it. We have fond memories of matches in the FA that comes second to none (e.g. Giggs' wonder goal, Schmike's last min penalty save etc...).

Therefore I hope SAF dun send a weak team out only to be kick out.

Lets not joke about this game , villa will be really worked up for this one and are in form at the moment and personally I want to see a really strong attacking line-up out there, and no butt-djemba midfield like in the carling cup.

If you're in Toronto, then I'm almost 100% sure that Elsewhere will carry it.

Is Djemba back from his trip home to his family? It was quite a while ago, but I haven't seen him since. I'm really surprised that we told Ronaldo to have his 3 weeks rest now, I thought we would wait until Ole got back.

He played right back against Everton for the last bit of the game when Silvestre and O'Shea had gone off injured.

Can anyone post a list of the channels around the world showing the match, please.

Carroll

Neville P Brown Ferdinand O'Shea

Butt Fortune

Fletcher Kleberson Bellion

Forlan

I want us to win but not that badly. ;)

Is O'Shea fit for this one?

Forlan

You'll be pleased to discover the identify of the man in the middle for this game. It's our lucky charm the Talented Mr Riley. :)

:D

Though didn't he book Ronaldo for diving last time? :o

Security measures have been stepped up for the game following the CELEBRATIONS from United fans during and after the 3rd round meeting 2 years ago. Over 6 thousand United fans are going to the game officially, however, due to Villas ticket selling arrangements via ticketmaster, it is anticipated more than 12,000 United fans will actually be in the stadium. I'll be sitting in the Doug Ellis Stand. COME ON YOU REDS, let's rock the stadium again.

No. He was in charge of our games against Charlton and Fulham this season, and Ronaldo was not booked in either game.

I think all the talk of him 'favouring' United got to him and he seemd to give the benefit of the doubt more to Fulham if I remember.
I think he has been a fair ref and he should be fine.
The match is 6.30 AM here and it is not on FOX....so bugger it. I will see what's up on Match Day Forum here.

Well, we lost to Fulham and he hasn't given us a single penalty this season yet. :nono:

Well today on the television by total coincidence they were showing United 7 West Ham 1 from a few seasons back. Guess who was ref that day and awarded us 2 penalties? :snow:

On a serious note I hope everyone agrees that he does not favour us and it is indeed some delightful coincidence that he has pointed to the spot in our favour on so many occasions in the past.

We probably will if we don't play our strongest team, we need to take the FA cup really serious this time around.

Yeah I'm worried. Keano will surely not play. What I can't understand is why they had to put Premiership matches in midweek. I mean if they want to enhance the importance of the FA Cup. Bolton away is a tricky fixture and we will need to be fresh for that

any radio links - other than MUFC web site?

cheers

I want to win this one.

Can't believe it's not on TV - two Premiership teams, both on form, both with something to prove this year? Crazy. Instead we have tedious Liverpool and bloody Yeovil.

Looks like I'm watching it on teletext again, just like the semi-final replay in 1999. Sigh.
