Watford vs Manchester United.

I would like to see a Fletcher-O'Shea-D.Jones midfield, with Ronaldo-Saha-Rossi as forwards. A tad bit experimental, but I think Giggs needs a rest and I'd like to see D.Jones and Rossi getting a chance. I doubt Fergie will hand them starts, but I don't think it would be a bad idea. The 4-3-3 is not very popular, but I reckon it could work with these players:
.................VDS...................
Gaz.......Rio.......Brown.....Evra
...............O'Shea..................
.....Fletcher.......D.Jones.........
.....Ronaldo..........Rossi..........
.................Saha....................

The biggest problem with the 4-3-3 in the past was the lack of width as well as our inability to break down bunker defences. But I reckon with Saha up top instead of Ruud, we'll be a lot more fluid and incisive in attack. Plus with Fletcher and Jones capable of pushing out into the wings, they can provide good cover for Neville and Evra as they attack. Evra is a great option for this kind of formation as he loves to attack.
The formation could very well be:
.....................VDS.......................
Neville.......Rio........Brown.......Evra
.....................O'Shea>>>>>....|...
........Fletcher.............Jones......|...
....<<<<<Ronaldo>>>>>>.....V
............................Rossi...............
................Saha............................

I'd expect there to be a lot of movement up front, with Ronaldo capable of moving out onto either wing and being supported by Jones/Fletcher or Evra/Gaz. Jones and Rossi are also quite creative, and I think Saha will be able to see a lot of the ball.

-------VDS-------
Wes-Rio-Silves-Evra
Ron-Carrick-O'Shea-Giggs
----Saha----Rossi--

That is what i would like to see however the formation is more likely to be like classy cannon suggested but with Evra at left back, Wes at right back, Silvestre in the centre and Neville to get 30-45 minutes from the bench.

I agree with that, 0-2 for United, Saha, Ronnie.

surely rossi will get a few minutes in this one.. did he even make the bench vs charlton?
He did, but only Ole and Carrick came from the bench. Rossi needs games and Watford is a rather easy team to face

Gaz definently out. He needs two weeks of rest to get over him injury

Man Utd (from): Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Brown, Ferdinand, Silvestre, Evra, Ronaldo, Fletcher, O'Shea, Miller, Richardson, Carrick, Park, Giggs, Saha, Solskjaer, Rossi.

I just realised Miller still hasn't been sold :nervous:

He was sitting next to Gary Neville in the stand during Wednesday nights match.

Spot on, cheers . Just read this..... :D

Foster is spending the season on loan at Vicarage Road from United, after also enjoying the last campaign with The Hornets.

But Premiership rules prevent the keeper from playing against The Red Devils, so Adrian Boothroyd will be forced into a change.

Richard Lee should start between the posts, with Boothroyd likely to put the veteran Alec Chamberlain on the bench.

I see another Charlton performance. Might struggle in the first half, but may have a 1-0 lead. Otherwise, I think the club will pull this out in the second half.

2-0 or 3-0

This is why I think we should of sold Silvestre and kept Evans at the club.

Silvestre looked like a walking disaster at Charlton and although he's decent at left back we have Evra and Heinze for that position (even Richardson and O'Shea can play there). With Neville out we will have to continue with Brown at right back and Silvestre at centre half until one of Vidic, Heinze or Neville are fit.

Evans looked class in pre-season and could of slotted straight in next to Rio and it would of been a good test for him as well (better than playing in Antwerp).

Would of been - Brown -- Rio -- Evans -- Evra.

Really worried about the aerial threat of King and Henderson if Silvestre plays.

--------------VDS---------------

---Brown---Rio---Micky---Evra---

---Ronaldo---O'Shea---Carrick---Park--

--------------------Giggs--------------

More of the same please!!!

Dunno. Fletcher scored, and his confidence is growing all the time. He'll get the nod ahead of O'Shea imo

Nutha 3-0 would be nice

Possibly but O Shea might get the nod as Watford are a threat at set pieces and O Sheas ability in the air will be invaulable there while O Shea will allow the rest of the midfielders to get forward and plug the gaps more easily than Fletcher.

doubt this game will be as easy as some are predicting. reckon it'll be close so I'm hoping for the 3 points.

4-0 to us would be nice though.

Both O'Shea & Carrick is not the type to cover a lot of ground & their natural game does not involve breaking forward regularly. The way Utd play always involve our CM(s) getting into the box regularly.

This'll be far tougher than our first 2 games.

Watford have been good the first 2 games of the season.

They'll be hungry and will definetely want to win this game. This was exactly the kind of game we were losing last year, and this kind of game made us lose the title.

Games where we were obviously vastly superior to our opposition, but they kept trying, and trying and trying. And we didn't break through. Then we'd get a bit impatient, and they'd catch us on the counter-attack.

I'm hoping we dont do that this season. So I'll say 2-1 to us, goals from Tevez and Mascherano....ooo,err....Saha and Ferdinand.

Rio FERDINAND is set to make his 300th Premiership career appearance (West Ham, Leeds and Manchester United).

If he lines-up for the kick off, Ryan GIGGS will be making his 600th club career start - all for Manchester United.

------------------------------------------------
That is an impressive count from Giggsy

Let's bring back life to this thread, the match is in less than 15 hours! :D

I'd go with:

-------------VDS--------------
--Brown--Rio--Silvestre--Evra--
Ronaldo--Carrick--O'Shea--Giggs
-------Solskjaer--Saha---------

Or swap Ole with Rossi? :nervous:

------------VDS-------------
----Brown--Rio-Silvestre-Evra-
Ronaldo-Carrick-O'Shea/Jones-Giggs
------Rossi-----Saha--------

I would really like to see David Jones given a match, I don't see what more he has to do to be given a match, considering his excellent performances for all the clubs he has been loaned to and excelling in every game he plays for the reserves. If Fletcher has been given 100+ matches, Jones should be given a chance.

Could actually try O Shea at CB if all goes good and play a formation like this.

---------Van der Sar-------

Brown--Rio--O Shea--Evra--

-----------Carrick-----------

Ronaldo---------------Giggs

-------Rooney--------------

------Saha------Ole--------

At least it gets Silvestre out of the back four. I agree with you about Evans. He looked so composed. Would have been ideal for this match.

What is the point of these trillion formations in every matchday thread?

It is not like SAF will see them is it?

Aidy: No swapping shirts
By PAT SHEEHAN

AIDY BOOTHROYD has warned his Premiership rookies not to swap shirts with Manchester United’s stars or they will get it in the neck — from him!

The Watford manager has convinced his players they deserve to be on the same pitch as United’s glamour boys and will roast any of them if they go souvenir hunting.

And ahead of today’s Vicarage Road clash Boothroyd blasted: “The players won’t be swapping shirts or anything like that because they are professionals.

“I know the lads and they are aware that if any of them tries anything like that they will get it from me.

“What is the point of coming into a game more worried about asking Rio for his shirt than who you should be marking at a corner? That doesn’t make sense to me.

“To run after someone asking for their jersey is like saying ‘You’re better than me’.

“And Manchester United aren’t better than us.

“We have been preparing for this game for a long time and done everything correctly, so we won’t be in awe of them.”

Boothroyd also refuses to be in awe of Old Trafford chief Alex Ferguson.

But Boothroyd admits that after reading Fergie’s autobiography he is arguably the best manager of all time.

Boothroyd has taken United keeper Ben Foster, 23, on loan again this campaign after he starred for them in last season’s promotion-winning season.

The Hornets boss said: “I have an idea of what makes Alex tick.

“I’ve met him on a couple of occasions at League Managers’ Association meetings and he’s been nothing but helpful.

“I’ve been in contact with him over the players I’ve taken from him, keeping him updated and saying what I think they need to do to improve.

“There’s a little bit of every Premiership manager I try and emulate.

“But I think every young, aspiring manager would want to emulate Alex’s record of success over so many years.

“He has decided to retire once and then decided against it because he missed it so much and the club needed him — I’d love to go on as long as he has.

“Alex has been in the game for so long and done so well. I have lots of people who I steal from but no one I would make my god.”

Boothroyd insists Watford’s first season back in the top flight in six years is not about survival but about finishing in the top half of the table.

The Hornets were relegated in 2000 with a then record-low tally of just 24 points.

They got their first point of the season in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with West Ham and showed promise in their opening-day defeat to Everton.

Boothroyd added: “I’m not a realist. I wouldn’t be sat here on the eve of a Premiership match with Manchester United if I was a realist.

“I’m a dreamer. But progress depends on people like me — unreasonable men who won’t go along with convention.

“What surprises me most is how I keep getting asked the same question about survival.

“How can you possibly think what you think and believe what you believe, I’m asked.

“Well, we’ve had two games now and only results will stop me getting there.

“That is what it will take for people to think we are here to make an impact, not just a little splash.”

Signs of transfer muppetry and the belief of beeing good in FM

Watford are a longball team so they will need O'Shea to win a few headers and Parks hustle. But Fergie may give Fletcher the nod on the right to see if he carrry on with the form he showed in the 2nd half against Charlton.

First sub; Richardson for Ronaldo at the 60 minute mark if we are up by 2.

Have you ever made a bet on match or made a prediction? Go away and grow up. Your the only muppet I see on this thread.

cant wait..

bring it on!

i think that saha will score another goal or even two.
also i think that ronaldo scores.

lineup should be the same as against charlton...maybe bring on carrick a little earlier.

Outremangeur there is a chance that Carrick could start and i actually think it is more likely than playing the same team we did last time.

a bit off topic but the sky sports 2 here in NZ have bloody well decided to show the Charlton Bolton game over the United game, so is there any possible ways to watch the game over the net, preferably for free??
