Point being most players have looked elsewhere. It's natural.
True, but quarrels are one thing. Two tranfer request (that are public knowledge) are another. Say he gets a new contract, what happens if his form doesn't improve next seaon? Any time he gets substituted or left out the speculation will start again. On top of that he's going to be very unpopular with the fans. Do we really want that kind of hassle during what's already going to be a tough year? Especially when Rooney isn't exactly irreplaceable atm.
Then by all means, let's keep him, granted he really does get the desire back and proves it on the pitch.
That's not the case right now though. Right now he seems desperate to get away, and he hasn't exactly made himself irreplaceable this season.
We'll only sell him to a club outside of England though.
Really liked him as a United player, but clearly he's not United player anymore in those idiot head of his so better get rid of him for a fair price.
No matter how good player is, once he loses focus on the club it's hard to get back as it used to be. He's done that twice now, either he's tormented soul who needs 'Wayne please stay' (give him bigger salary) or someone that's genuin idiot, one of those you really have to say twice to understand.
Would like him to regain form he had, but doubt it would be with United so sell him abroad and get decent fee, 30+ something, could be good for both parties. He's given 8,9 good years to the club and that's shouldn't be forgotten no matter what.
Van Persie, Hernandez, Welbeck and Kagawa sound like good attacking options even without him, everyone knows it's the midfield that need investments. Eventhough losing him would be big blow, with money spent right it could (should) benefit United in the end.

There's never been any suggestion whatsoever that Rooney causes any problems in the squad, he's very well liked.
I don't think the Rooney and Ronaldo situations are similar.
Ronaldo, always had his heart set on Madrid, essentially saw us become the strongest team in Europe.
Rooney handed in a transfer request, bemoaned the lack of quality signings. Got his pay rise, and shut up. Two years down the line, he asks to leave again.
I'll tell you one thing, if Rooney leaves and ever returns to Old Trafford with another club, like Ronaldo did with Madrid this season, he won't get near the same reception as Ronaldo got. Probably boos.

Because he has always got his own way, I wouldn't bet on that being the case if he doesn't.
How could he possibly be viewed as a reliably quantity after all that has happened? And what of his team mates?
Why would anyone not want Ronaldo back? He is in the middle of his peak years now which means he still has 2-3 peak years left and then 2-3 good years after that.

Well Ronaldo would give us more going forward than Rooney, there's no question about that. There's no age difference, Ronaldo is much better and would surely play longer into his career too. If Rooney doesn't want to play for us, which seems to be the case, and Ronaldo did and could, I'd have no problem accepting that.
I would have flogged Rooney last summer. I even raised concerns about this in August and said I thought he'd struggle this season with the players we have.
On the flipside though, I reckon United had decided a while ago that they'd sell him this summer. I've seen a few journalists saying it and I believe the same thing.
I'm scared of too much change moving forwards into next season. Consider that SAF was our manager moving forwards, I'd want Rooney sold...kinda scares me a bit the thought of him leaving aswell.
Not really. He seemed to get along pretty well with everyone even today with the celebrations and in the dressing room.
If it's Chelsea, you'd have to feel someones turned his head with the allure of a big fat contract.

But yes, I would like it if the second best player in the world played for Manchester United. Granted we don't spend all of the transfer budget on him and he doesn't act like a billy big bollocks on the pitch.

He might have given Real his best years but he got nothing out of it bar a La Liga. Thus he's still fairly hungry with alot to prove, as it stands he is only a one time CL winner... which for a guy who wants to be remembered as one of the all time greats is a poor return. He'd also restore abit of star quality to this United side and add some glamour to our side.
I think it'd help take the spotlight off Moyes and we'd have a guaranteed matchwinner in our ranks, who has a very United'esque mentality, that of never accepting 2nd best and never tiring of winning.
My only fear is whether he's going to age well as a player.. due to the fact he's not really a passer, guys who usually age well are those who playmake and never really rely on pace.. or in Giggs case had it all along but never really showed it when he was out on the wing. Is Ronaldo capable of adapting his game if his physical condition deteriorates?
Reckon Fergie saying he wants Rooney to stay is just a way of playing hardball with Chelsea.

The biggest attrocsity to come from this news is that he is going to be stealing newspaper column inches from the great man tomorrow. Today was supposed to be all about Fergie, maybe he let the news slip dilberately in order to force Rooneys hand sooner rather than later.

SAF just said he wasn't for sale so they can get as good a price for him as possible. I'm nearly certain he won't be here next season. If his heart is not in it he's no use to us.

We'll have to agree to disagree but a lot of what I've seen of Rooney this season has been that hes flattered to deceive, on the face of it his stats have been good but his overall contribution has been poor far too many sub-par performances masked by a assist, goal or a good long range pass/dribble

It's a lot easier to smile and laugh for a half an hour while the eyes of the world are on you than to cope with being dropped for a few weeks, I could be entirely wrong, I just think its a worry moyes could do without in his first season

Have I been on Mars or something? Why is everyone talking about Rooney moving to us? I only went away for a few days and it feels like I've fallen into a 5 year coma.
To be fair Ronaldo's exit was a lot more professional and amicable in regards to how he left the club. He never threw in public transfer requests in response to silly things like the club not signing good enough players, and even when his mind wasn't in the right place he still put in solid performances on the pitch. Heck, this season there was a storm of a circus surrounding him, yet he's still scored a silly amount of goals while continuing to be his side's talisman. Somehow I don't think you'll get that with Rooney.

What has become the Rooney saga is starting to make us look a little bit like City over Tevez: Having to beg someone to stay who is constantly and publicly flirting with other clubs. We're bigger than that and only Wayne Rooney doesn't seem to recognise that fact.

It just can't be for more money, can it? Are there many players in the world who earn more than Rooney? (just on football wages from their clubs, not all their endorsements and whatnot). Maybe Messi and Ronaldo, because they are essentially untouchable.

Also a very minor sidepoint - getting rid of Rooney would leave Moyes apparently with a weaker squad, losing one of the "big" names, arguably the biggest. That might actually relieve a bit of pressure on the new manager.
