Wayne Rooney withdraws from England squad, minor knee injury

I'm beginning to despise the cof92.

Except Giggs (I know)

Nicky Butt and David Beckham are pretty much the only two I actually like on a personal level now. The rest are my sporting heroes but all lacking in either the brain or charisma department. Both in the case of big toe.

Tbf ref Becks and NB I agree, good lads

So he shouldn't have apologised because some FA staff members were with him?

Mail, now quoting FA sources.
Wayne Rooney's position as England captain is in serious doubt after it emerged that he defied Gareth Southgate's request to cut short his booze binge at the team hotel on Saturday night.

On Thursday night, FA sources confirmed that the interim manager intervened and told Rooney to call it a night at a reasonable time, only for the Manchester United striker to continue drinking until 5am.

Jobs for the boys, innit?

Let me share this story, you're free to believe it or not. Many moons ago, Beckham and Gaz were at a bar in my country while on vacation. It was summer and Becks was drinking a pint of beer. Soon afterwards somebody else paid another beer for Becks. Gaz stepped in and told him not to drink it as they are only entitled for 1 beer a day. Becks laughed it off but Gaz made it quite clear that if he drinks that beer he would personally report him to SAF. At that point Becks left the beer at the bar and they both walked out of there.I wasn't there but I happen to know the bartender who was working there and the owner of the bar.

That's why I find it hilarious that he took that stand. Now either the level of complacency has reach ridiculous levels in the past few years or else Gaz is being an A class hypocrite.

Sounds like Rooney's a mess. He has had it easy for years and I'm guessing he thought he could get away with it again.

Nah, I believe you mate. That's a great story, and I completely agree with you.

Guys I must warn you. Don't go into town on a Saturday night. There are believe it or not footballers out having a drink.

He's a 200k+ a week player and the captain of both Manchester United and England FFS. He should be taking care of himself especially now when its pretty evident that he's in decline. Does he even care about his career anymore?

I don't think he respects any manager who hasn't won as much as he has; never mind his attitude regarding Hodgson's instructions, just look at his lukewarm endorsement of Southgate as potential England manager:
BBC said:
"He's done all he can and I'm sure he's the frontrunner," said Rooney. "From my point of view, he's in pole position."

You are wasting your time mate.

I think youre missing the point regarding Rooney. Its not that he was drinking (and look at his state, it wasnt just one or two), its that he possibly defied Southgate (though that is yet to be confirmed and thats more England based)... but its more the state hes in and has been throughout the season and last three seasons. The man is on the decline and is not taking care of himself. If he was performing to Messi levels everybody here would just laugh it off. The drink isnt the isolated incident, its adding the the whole package of how hes deteriorated.

Added to that, a lot of people said he should be shown more respect, and I keep hearing that. Respect is earned, and everything became business like when he treated United as a business. Do you really think he cares about the fans as much as is being made out? He might be a good lad and all, but if hes treating United as a business to make money (which he has shown hes done), then its only right its done back to him. And tbh, hes not giving value for money and its long overdue that hes moved on to allow United to also move on.

Halloween was a few weeks ago and I'm sure the clown frenzy has died down but then again Rooney's current state is scary and he's acting the real clown. For your own good @Dobbs stay indoors.

Seriously why these people keep on mentioning past players? First of all, football had changed. The drinking culture surrounding football is gone, at least at top level football. Secondly top players are being paid ridiculously high to keep themselves at top shape. They are also being paid for image rights to give a positive image to the club. Does this idiot has any idea how damaging this thing is for United especially now when the club is struggling? FFS our main poster boy, the man United had built their merchandising strategy upon, was caught wasted!

If Rooney wants to drink alcohol while playing football then he should leave United and go and play for some 2nd division side. He cant expect to live the life of a part time player while earning the millions earned by a top class world class one.

Spot on devilish.

He's definitely at the end, physically and mentally.

That's besides my point though. I've seen three or four United players in town over the last few years. I just worry about certain caf members if they were to see it.

Can the king in spe tell the kingmaker to call it a night and stop the binge? That's a fecking impudence I tell you!

England captain Wayne Rooney injured his knee by slipping over an energy drink bottle while leaving the shower
No wonder his hair's falling out.

I find it strange that anyone would try to defend this. A top level professional should not be drinking till 5 am during the season, let alone the captain of the national team. Total lack of dedication and respect towards the fans. After 30, just staying up to 5 am without drinking is tough. Then the English press is surprised that the English national team flops every Euro or WC.

Also, this is not an apology.
“Naturally Wayne is sorry that pictures taken with fans have been published today.
“Although it was a day off for the whole squad and staff, he fully recognises that the images are inappropriate for someone in his position.

This is a complete non-apology.

That's the problem with Wayne - he's no doubt a humble, likeable guy off-field but a real bighead on it. The fact that he chooses to view his press treatment over the years as terrible - when in fact, he's been utterly lionised for over a decade - says it all; his default response to (rare) criticism is resentment and stubborness.

So devastated that he's doing his best to prolong it by going on the piss until the sunrise.

He needn't be devastated, he could still play in the PL if he moved to a team who's demands aren't so high.

Earning 100k a week at Everton, or Foxes, or Southampton is nothing to be depressed about.

His problem is that since SAF's retirement, for whatever reason, he's been mollycoddled to the point that he's lost touch with reality.

LvG, G.Nev, Woy haven't helped him, at all, with their sycophantic behaviour toward him.

He needs to move on if he wants to play regularly, big deal, he's in his 30s, at least he's still playing in the PL!

The only thing Wayne is sorry about is that he got caught. That is down to his own stupidity as well.

As others have said co92 other than becks and Butt are seriously pissing me off now, used to absolutely worship Gnev but what he's been coming out with lately I'm speechless.

Well said, even without the beer, staying up all night isn't going to help his body recover, the sooner he's gone the better, I sincerely hope jose scolds him in the PC but I'm not holding my breath.

Dare i say I started to actually like Carragher more than G Nev lately. No wonder England were an absolute shambles when he was part of the coaching staff if that is the support he comes out with. Good player but *nob head

To those defending him, it's probably a good time to tell you the whole "why shouldn't he drink on a night off?" defence isn't working.

He's known to have been pissed as feck at the UNICEF dinners and Ed Sheeran's(cnut) gig for a start.

To be fair, I don't blame anyone for wanting to get pissed at an Ed Sheeran gig.

Trying to look at this as impartially as possible, on the one hand he hasn't technically done anything wrong as from what I've heard he was on downtime and was entitled to have a drink. On the other hand, it's the middle of the football season rather than the middle of the summer and it's generally accepted that copious amounts of alcohol consumption - especially in modern day football where fitness and being in shape is ever more important - show's a remarkable lack of self-awareness, particularly at a time when his future as a top level footballer is under intense scrutiny. Klopp's right that many legends of yesteryear liked to go on the lash (and in some cases could turn in a MOTM performance while they were still pissed:lol:) but that was then and this is now, and I bet his reaction would've been completely different if one of his players had been pictured in that state mid-season.

I think at least part of Rooney's decline is down to him not looking after his body as well as other footballers and that surely catches up eventually. It reminds me a lot of Ricky Hatton and his lifestyle between fights. After an incredible performance in defeating Kostya Tszyu back in 2005, he should've been well set at the top for years afterwards. Losing to Mayweather and Pacman was no disgrace as they were the 2 best P4P fighters around at the time, but some of his other displays post-Tszyu left a lot to be desired.

Where they wasted?

Blind, Lingard and Smalling about 6 months ago. Weren't drunk at that stage but I didn't see what happened later, at the end of the night. They werent drinking water that's for sure. There wasn't a Sun source to handily confirm what time they went to bed either.

I've seen others over the years and I rarely go into town. It's not like the 80's anymore but players go out and they drink.

Unfortunately I agree, I can't honestly take anything Gnev says seriously now.
