He is a top top player, the "finished" article if you like. The type of player our fans have been moaning that we never sign. Now we may be on the verge of signing him (if you can believe the reports) and some are not happy, they want 'development' players instead so they have a resale value!?

Why the feck should we be planning to sell our best young players after we develop them to where they need to be??

Also Evra won't be a guaranteed starter imo. If he can't get back into his old form one of the twins will have a word to say.

Evra will be first teamer at least for next season. Fabio is still too young to compete with Evra for a first team spot and he will focus his efforts on taking the right back spot which is a target that is certainly more achievable then the left rear flank.

We are still not dead certs nor ever were dead certs for the 3 of them. But Modric is clearly done for, City are offering Nasri £185k a week, so the media are going to focus all attention on Sneijder now.
 
This can't work though. According to Friendlytramp we have to buy Nasri in order to swap Nani with Sneijder, so I don't think this will happen. We have to sell Nani, as we've already replaced his imminent departure with Young. I'm worried though because if we don't get Sneijder, then that means we will get Sanchez, and Nani would go to Italy, meaning we can sell Young as he's not needed now. Any updates on whether Rodwell has signed yet either, I remember that one being undisputable.

Wasn't all that impressive when I saw him this season. Read Brwned's posts earlier in the thread and he seems to think 09/10 was a one off. I've not watched enough of him over the years to really comment on that, but I think most are going way overboard on how good he is.

Me too. I don't think he's that good actually and I can see why Inter are willing to sell for such a fee.

A lot of the players weren't up to form last season following the world cup, I wouldn't read too much into it tbh

Without knocking what we have at the moment I'm fairly sure Sneijder is better than all of them so even if he's not 09/10 good he'll still be an improvement

It's not true though.
I don't know how many games Brwned actually watched, but whenever I saw him (not too often mind) he was good. He was also good for Netherlands when he played for them.

His stats are impressive as well. A friend of mine who is a big Real Madrid fan also said that he wasnt bad at all at Madrid when he played for them.

Not a one-season wonder at all imo.

Surely a better solution in the middle than Nasri in my books
 
He scored similar amount of goals in both seasons for Inter

But dont forget his 1st season with Madrid. He looked Quality then too
 
Certainly not a one-season wonder, at all, but he has been over-hyped at times, as is often the case with high-profile targets. I think he would be excellent coming to us, and in our team though.

No Inter are always willing to sell people at right price. Also financially Inter need to generate some funds right now especially in terms of wage bill.

I personally find it odd when people say such stuff about proven players such as Sneijder. It was not just Inter he shone with but also reached the WC final with Holland. Before that had a good first season with Real before they shifted him out for idiotic reasons.

I have seen Sneijder play in person about 3 times and loads of time during his first season with Inter on telly. He is nothing like Veron or Pirlo, the type of playmakers who are susceptible to struggle in fast paced game of PL. Besides his work rate his awesome, his best position is in an attacking role in MF three but he has the discipline to play in a 2 man MF. He is a very much a all round MF player. Not the best passer, best dribbler, best tackler, best at playing through balls etc. but has all the these attributes and more at a very good level.

It seems people only are convinced with likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas... rest they have doubts about.

Sneijder was average last season. But there were reasons to that. He had a humongous season with Inter and then Holland's run to the final zapped any left energy in him. Benitez then fecked about with Mourinhio's set formation which led to lot of players losing form. Towards the end of the season, he simply lacked motivation (which should count as a negative towards him) given Inter were not in contention for bigger trophies like previous year.

Thing is he's never been a 20 goal a season midfielder (not since he left the Dutch league anyway) but that's not why we're buying him is it. It's more his ability to find space, create chances and dictate play.

Modric, Nasri, Sneijder none are going to get the same amount of goals that Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard once used to get those types of players dont exist in the modern game

Agree with you about his time at Real, always looked good there imo crazy that they replaced him with Kaka (crazy in hindsight anyway)
 
Bit of an aside, but sterling is mounting a comeback against the euro this week and the major European banks will publish "stress test" results over the next few days which (depending on results) could see the euro fall away dramatically. All of which could give us a lot more leverage in this sort of negotiations.
 
With the amount we've saved on wages due to retirements alone we can afford Sneijders wages.

Great post, I agree with everything. Too many people seem to think there is thi perfect jigsaw piece out there. A combative attacking midfielder who sits a bit deeper but can get forward, has great technical skills and can retain the ball all day long while scoring 20 goals a season and getting 15 assists.

Doesn't exist. What does exist is a player with some of those attributes and Sneijder fits that bill.

What should also be mentioned is that he was diagnosed with Anemia earlier this season. He was suffering exhaustion from the previous year's treble followed by the World Cup. Apparantly good old Benitez had refused to give him the break he needed in order to fully recover. Anemia isn't something we'll have to worry about if he signs for us, once diagnosed it is perfectly manageable, but it's certainly a good excuse as to why his form suffered this season when Benitez insisted on playing him.

If I'm not mistaking, he's the highest paid player in Italy, according to the aforementioned website, he's at EUR 285k per week, that would be around GBP 250k.
 
I don't understand this not agreeing to Wages things. Usually the personal terms are sorted even before there is a bid made. It would be idiotic for us to pursue him seriously without even knowing that he would fit in our wage budget or not.
 
van der Kraan said a few days ago that it's widely accepted in Holland that Sneijder wants to join United but the negotiations are likely to be a long process due to wages.

Strictly speaking, that would be tapping. wouldn't it?

We could afford him in our wage budget but does he deserve to exceed rooney's? probably not even match but we need a player of his ilk.
