West Ham United vs. Manchester United

Bench isn't all that strong. No point having 3 strikers on a bench when you have no backup full backs.

I'd swap Park and Giggs in that formation. I think if Giggs is going to play on the wing you may as well stick Nani in there, if he's fit and isn't being rested, which may be the case.

I think Park's best position is in the hole, he was magic there vs. Milan for example.

Hopefully PIG will prove to be a good luck charm!

Last year's game there, we lined up in a similar fashion, so you can see what Fergie's probably trying to achieve:

Kuszczak, Fletcher, Neville, Brown, Evra, Gibson, Scholes, Anderson, Valencia, Rooney, Giggs.

what has berba done wrong to be dropped, its ridiculous.....he score in our last game too against bolton.

Not necessarily. Its going to be tight looking at the line up. Perhaps he was either rested or with Valencia on the right, Fergie wanted someone 'tighter' on the left.

True. Park and Valencia give great protection to the back four.

If Giggs plays wide, though, he won't be much better defensively than Nani would have been.

I guess Fergie was always gonna rest players with the CL in mind.

Great bench

feck the becnh we need the best players on the pitch

im worried now! Clearly fergie has chelsea in mind but maybe we should be ensuring the points today and taking guys off....

Damn it anyway I hate football

i love it really

I've always wondered what Nani would be like through the middle. That way you kind of lose the worry of the full backs being exposed. But that's for another thread I guess.

Surprised Hernandez didn't make it. Jet lag probably. I expect him to get a start midweek.

teams based on training performances and who's fit, not 'our ideal' 11.....every bloody time. Even in FM players get injured or fatiqued.. This is real life lads come on. Great team ..oh and btw look at our away record...a shake up isn't always a bad thing.

Hmm...Berba to start against Chelsea?

Possibly. I think Fergie has been impressed with the variety that hernandez brings to our striking options. It was him pulling the Chelsea defense everywhere at the Bridge in the first half that meant we had a lot of the ball in the first half during the last game. For me Hernandez gets the nod over Berbatov simply because he's more different to Rooney than Berba is, if that makes sense.

Blimey. An injury to any of our back four and Olly Gill is getting his Premier league debut. Wouldn't have predicted that 2 or 3 years ago.

Thanks for pointing that out. As if I wasn't nervous enough. Fab never lasts the full 90.

This is a bit gay really, because you know that during the week he's going to go 4-5-1 again and have all three strikers on the bench.

We're a cowardly team these days, which is disappointing considering how top heavy we are with talented attacking players, and even more disappointing considering the cowardly approach has mostly not worked at all anyway.

Injury on CB = Carrick moves there

Injury on RB/LB = Park moves there

before Gill I think.

without VDS and Rio doesn't inspire confidence, also Scholes suspended, but to leave Nani and Berbatov out is even worse....

Total faith in Gill should he come in, he'd have little to do.

Though chances are Park back for a fullback injury and 4-4-2, Carrick back for a centreback one and Anderson on.

Not the team I'd have chosen. Not a surprise though. For whatever reason fergie is willing to risk binning number 19 for a cl I really don't think we can win.

I got the outfield selection right with the exception of Park playing rather than Hernandez.

Personally as long as it wasn't Vidic at the back, I'd bring on Berbatov, go 3 at the back and two upfront. Too many defenders for a game like this.

I hope we don't have to risk Gill, our defence is really fecked....

For feck's sake, noodles. You don't half talk nonsense with this "cowardly" stuff. We've been playing with a lone striker and three central midfielders on and off throughout the most successful period of the club's history. How the feck did you work out that this means it's "mostly not worked"?

Would you play Berbatov with Rooney, thus forcing the players on the formation, or would you play him alone upfront even though he's not very good in that role?

It's unfortunate that he's not playing, but Fergie has decided three in the middle is the way to go, and Rooney's our best lone striker. Simple.

With the exception of Vidic who is needed and had a game in mid week to get his fitness up, if any of our injured defenders were touch and go for the game with Chelsea in mid week, I wouldn't have expected any of them to be risked any way.

I like we play 4-5-1 today as West Ham got three really good central midfielders and condiser our away form it's good to have 4-5-1 from start and change in the 2nd half when needed.
