West Ham v Manchester Red

Baffled how Cleverley keeps getting left on the bench while Valencia constantly get's started despite being dire in almost every single game. Just sheer mental.

They don't play the same position though so it's not like Valencia is getting picked over Cleverley.

Excellent team. Fergie not messing about with rotation.

Also, at the end up the day we as spectators can't know who's doing well on the training field. If Nani or Young did better than Valencia in training, then I doubt they'd fall behind in the pecking order..

I think Cleverley is just a little tired after a long season of football. And will benefit from the rotation. I am sure the cut up and heavy pitch at OT through the winter didn't help. He looked dead on his feet 2/3 weeks ago. He's made a massive contribution in his first full season (last season was injured too much), so I don't think we can ask much more. I am sure he will develop further over the summer and next year. Jones definitely suits West Ham's physical approach better, so good call there I suspect.

That West Ham back four looks a bit suspect to be honest.

How does Valencia keep getting starts? Other than that it's a good team and im glad to see Vidic play 2 consecutive games.

The last few games have been quite physical, SAF could just be protecting Cleverley for all we know. Hes coming through his first full season in our first team, and Villa and Arsenal might just suit him more.

Nice team, lord knows how Valencia keeps getting in though. Hopefully can give carrick a rest at some point.

Cleverley must've really pissed off Sir Alex, and Valencia starting still is pretty incredible. It's not a big deal though, good team that should easily get the job done.

#whufc: Jaaskelainen; Demel, Reid, Collins, O'Brien; Jarvis, Diame, O'Neil, Vaz Te; Nolan; Carroll.

Agree about the Clev being rested comment..
Its his first real season. No need to push him when not needed.
Wilshere broke down.. not the same for every player, but why risk it

edit: Apparently he's played just 30 games this season.. but he has been playing for England.

Bloody hell, Fergie is not messing around with that team. Still weird that Cleverley doesn't get a look in, but that front six looks fantastic. Come on United!

I have no idea why Cleverley hasn't been involved as much in the past month.

Was hoping we'd go for Nani and Cleverley with Jones in CB and Valencia dropped, but I can see the reasoning for this selection.

Surely we're past the point where we hope Valencia can play himself out of poor form for this season?

Give him a rest now and put Nani in, maybe he'll increase his transfer fee, which seems the way he is going.

Just hope we don't give away needless fouls, as they will be a handful from set pieces. Collins, Nolan and Carroll are difficult to cope with physically, so we should look to keep the ball and outscore them rather than allow them to have the ball and hit on the counter, otherwise they will draw fouls. We've got the players to play keep-ball and frustrate them. Other than Jarvis, they don't really have a quick counter attacking threat, so there's no real need to sit back, I don't think.

Damn, had thought Nolan wasn't fit.

Any word who the ref is?

Jones ahead of Cleverley and Giggs?
Jones, imo, has been our best player the last few games. However that is in the back4 so me too would rather have Cleverley in the team. I will also be slaughtered for the fact that i´d rather have Nani in the team instead of Kagawa. Valencia has been poor almost all season but I think he has picked up his game since coming on against RM. Kagawa hasn´t impressed me the way he has impressed 95 percent of the cafe. He has shown his qualities sometimes for sure but I want more from him

This will be probably(hopefully) come back to bite me in the arse but does anyone else think that Jones isn't good enough on the ball to be a central midfielder?

I can see the thinking in some games against teams who will dominate possession because he's excellent at shutting down space when the opposition have the ball and winning it back. However in games like todays I wouldn't mind someone with a bit more technical ability and creativity in there.

Depressing Cleverley can't get a look in ahead of him. He must be really shite in training these last few weeks.

Posted a while back regarding Jones, his stats on the ball in all of the massive games we've put him in this season rank him up there with the best in our side in those games. Brings a fantastic amount of strength and has dominated almost every big game in aerial battles that he's played in. Said it before and I'll say it again, Jones has taken this position and made it work.

They don't play the same position though so it's not like Valencia is getting picked over Cleverley.

It doesn't really matter if Valencia has played like Pele in training sessions. Listen, I'm not a hater. I'm consistently defending our players and hate people overreacting, but nobody can defend Valencia's season. He's been dire. It's tough to really pin point a single game where he's had a stormer. Why he's been like this, I've no idea, but the fact is he's still getting picked and realistically, he's not really providing much of a threat out wide.

Sure, Cleverley plays a different position (despite playing out on the wing in previous seasons and doing so a few times this season, drifting in and out), but he still deserves game time ahead of a player that's doing nothing for us. You cant argue about width, Valencia isn't even providing any. He stops, starts, runs inside and mostly halts the entire play.

I'd love him to come out and have a stormer, fantastic if he does, he's a good guy who showed last season how good he was, but this season he's shown no real reason to be picked constantly like this other than the fact all of our other wingers have also been poor.

That interviewer perpetually sounds like he's lost his notes and is having to ask the questions from memory.

How often does Jones not play when he's fit?

Checked for myself. He's been fit for 63 games since we signed him, and has started 48, coming on in another 11. He's surreptitiously become a Fergie favourite.

Valencia starting again - a few crosses into the box would be a Messi-esque performance from him

These overpaid prima donnas owe us a performance - I forked out good money for the packet of Quavers I'll be eating while watching a free stream.
