Westminster Politics

Diane made a few slip ups on national TV during election period & is a black woman - abusing her has become so normalised that this will cause a few headlines for a day or 2 and things will go back to normal; where it’s okay to hurl abuse & insults her way anytime she says something.

I’ll actually be shocked if Starmer says anything in defence of her

How the feck can a political donor hold government contracts?
That's how its always worked. Those 'donations' aren't free or without condition, they're essentially glorified bids for contracts. Clearly this bigoted Hutt has done well with his £10million 'bid'.

You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours - although when the likes of us do it it's known as bribery

I didn’t know she still gets abused. Is she still an MP? She’s barely in the news and over 70, surely. Sounds like a fixation.

It"s worse than that, in most other industries its considered collusion/fraud.

It won't change as i expect all sides at westminster are happy with the arrangement.

A senior minister has said a top Tory donor's alleged comments about Diane Abbott "were clearly inappropriate" but people should "move on".

Mel Stride said Frank Hester's alleged comments the MP made him "want to hate all black women" were not "race-based".

Mr Hester has apologised for making "rude" comments about Ms Abbott but his remarks "had nothing to do with her gender nor colour of skin".

Am I having a fecking stroke?

It's still a bit strange though, as there's very strict laws on it. I'm guessing parliament must fall outside of those laws as there's no way it's allowed in a normal workplace (at least so openly).

People can just make up any old shit now, even if its a super obvious lie.

Though there's clearly a subset of the population who believe that racism can only be racism if you're lynching KKK style.

anyway, all of this is predictable & exhausting

It’s not even at the funny ‘satire is dead’ point anymore. This is just disgusting and it boils my blood how little consequence there is for shit like this currently.

so cynical. did you even bother reading the whole article? he can’t be a racist, some of his best business ventures are black.

Dawn Butler has said on LBC that a member of the public was sentenced to 12 months with 18 months suspended for saying she should be shot.

Will one of the toffs? Hmm

She's also pointed out how outrageous it is for this bloke to have access to the publics information, or potentially have contracts for AI in the future

The News Agents podcast covers all of this today and they nail every single point. The whole thing is so fecking odious and offensive to everyone (except racists, because the Conservatives don't want to anger them).

They're both fecking shit at their jobs would be one...

what about Diane Abbott makes her bad at her job?
Her local constituency overwhelmingly votes for her and she has a strong approval rate of the people she serves.
Is she your MP? Or perhaps have you taken part in any town halls she’s hosted?

Completely random - does anyone have a FT subscription? There's an article I want to read but its behind a paywall.

I do - PM me the link and I'll PM you the article.

We would accept another £10m from Hester, says Tory minister.

Just about sums the Tories up.

The PM's authority is shot, but there is no big move against him," is how political editor Beth Rigby summarises the current mood in the Tory party.

Of course not... the Tories have lost the GE already and to most of their MP's (who are bothering to stand again) it just depends how many of them think they will retain/lose their seats, under Rishi.
Suspect most will have worked out for themselves how their constituents will vote and it seems the outcome is "Rishi will carry the can" or, "don't rock the boat anymore, otherwise we might go under without a trace".

Starmer needs to keep his mouth shut and just smile a lot, until the GE starting pistol is fired...it can't be long off now. ;)
