I don't like much of Cummings' politics but he isn't wrong about the media class proliferating nonsense for a living. His primary fault is his egoism and his ultra conservative ideology but he isn't an idiot.
Maybe removing the need for planning permission processes to benefit the large building companies who are friends of the Tories wasn't such a good idea then. Because many of the shires will have the same concerns.

Government want to allow 2500 VIPs into the country for the Euro 2021 final so it can still be held at Wembley. None of those VIPs would have to self isolate as is government rules regarding those that come in. One rule for the haves one rule for the have nota
There are already separate rules for the likes of footballers, golf and tennis players.

there are already separate rules in place. For example for the G7 last week. I don’t see the big deal, and think that the vast vast majority of people wild think this is a good idea in order to stage the Semi finals and final of the Euros.
only applies to people who stay less than 24 hours, have a negative test, stay in a designated hotel, can only travel with others in the same situation and can’t go to any other venues.

I'm not someone to complain about being on the wrong side of a few arbitrary rules resulting from covid. But my kids move up to secondary school this year. They are now not allowed to attend mutiple planned events, designed to help ease them into a new school they have never been to. It can be a difficult period for kids, even without the current situation and it seems like they've had the shitty end of the stick too many times over the last year.
So yeah, I'd say I have a problem with this. While not a massive issue, it's yet another case of allowances being made for those with high wealth, while the rest just have to get on with it. The UK isn't completely out of the woods yet. By my understanding, we're relying upon the vaccine programme continuing at a strong pace to stay ahead of this latest wave(to put it simply). Taking more risks now, only increases the chances of further lockdowns or continuing restrictions past next month.

He designed the Brexit campaign and was the man behind "Get Brexit Done". He's definitely conservative in UK terms. I mean he is a complete Tory. He is also clearly quite liberal but I don't mean he isn't liberal when I say he is conservative.
His lifelong ambition is the centralisation of power. He wants all Gov. Dpts. to be run from no. 10. A civil servant with an iconoclastic axe to grind.
I can see your point, and there have been restrictions on everyone that have been frustrating, and indeed detrimental.
But in the scheme of things, 2.5k people in and out on 24 hours allows us to host 3 significant football matches, and upwards of 75k of fans to watch the semi finals and finals of the Euros. If these games were two weeks later, it wouldn’t be an issue.
if this was in January this year, then yes of course - but I think given where we are, this is highly insignificant. Albeit, i do recognise that there’s two different rules - but also allowing these people to be exempt allows a lot of ordinary people to have a once in a lifetime experience.

It is always said that there is a housing shortage and has been for many decades.
There may be a shortage of so called affordable housing.
But the rate of house building has gone up significantly in the last few years.
The biggest problem is that we are building some of the smallest houses in Europe and as a result, families need to move to bigger houses which they struggle to afford.
In my view, it has become unfashionable to vote Labour for many reasons.
And it has become fashionable to vote Tory.
Plain and simple.

Bingo - in France a room is not classified as a bedroom unless it is 9m2 so a four bedroom shoebox in the UK would generally be classed as a 2 bedroom house with cupboards

it is massive. It’s hugely unreported. One of the biggest issues that most of these properties are in a poor state of repair. The focus has been on new housing. So if you were a first time bitter without the required deposit, there is govt. help but only to buy new properties. In effect propping up the big house builders.
Very few incentives to bring back houses in disrepair back into the housing stock.
Landlords owning tens or hundreds of unaffordable houses in poor states of repair doesn't help either. Obviously nothing wrong with landlord/renter situations but there's sometimes very little incentive for the landlord to be responsible. And before anyone mentions bad tenants, there's plenty of incentive for them not to be twats - it's their only home - but if they're high, irredeemable twats, or have mental health problems or whatever, then they're likely not thinking about the future.

having a private rental sector is essential for mobility. Like anything, there are good and bad landlords.
i think there was a post in here about a housing association - which are often much worse than a small landlord.
its actually these small landlords that are in the best place to bring back into circulation the empty houses.
Many owner occupiers can’t afford or don’t want a ‘do upper’, and there’s not enough money in it for bigger developers.
For sure, I'm just saying that there are plenty of these types of landlord who don't give a feck about the houses and still make plenty of money anyway. That should be disincentivised in some way ideally.
with Section 24 and the introduction of EICRs - it’s getting closer towards ‘professional’ landlords.

True. Better than it was no doubt. I suspect the problem is more enforcement - court cases take forever these days, and inspections of properties pretty much just aren't a thing.
Very good point that. Land is a finite resource and should be cherished and valued. Once it is covered by concrete, it is lost forever.
Indeed. I well remember being in Germany with work colleagues who were always keen to show me their homes. And I was completely surprised when they were able to quote the square metres size.
When I told them that in England, we classify the size of a house by the number of bedrooms. And they all said - what has that got to do with it. And of course they were perfectly correct.
In some houses, the smaller bedrooms are even too small to fit a single bed. The beds have to be specially made.
And as we know, the UK has some of the 'biggest' people in Europe.
