Westminster Politics

Still can't see him resigning. He'll hang on until the very last minute.

That is right. He has zero intention of resigning. Those kind of people never think they are in the wrong.
It is everyone else.

The strange thing with this collapse, is that it’s never been because of an ‘inciting incident’. It’s always been the denial of the impact of that:

- Brexit: not the lies but the continued denial
- Dominic Cummings & Barnard Castle: not the trip itself but the attempts to justify it
- COVID parties: as bad as they were, the issues came because of denial, justification and attempts to make it ‘fluff’
- Owen Paterson: wasn’t even the main issue, but the uproar about how Rees-Mogg and the others tried to rewrite the rules about it
- Tractor porn: again others denying the impact of it
- Pincher: the reality that they fully knew of his history

Their arrogance has been their downfall. “Oh the plebs don’t need to worry about X or Y because ’we got all of the big calls right’”. With half of these issues, if they had just accepted responsibility and taken the proverbial medicine they wouldn’t be anywhere near this point of implosion.

The world is waiting for the next episode in the comedy reality show "WTF Prime Minister"

How many lies will the PM tell today? (to the nearest ten)
How many MP's will be forced to resign for gross misconduct?
How many Cabinet Ministers will not put their foot in their mouth today?
How many trade deals will Brexit Britain sign this year? (to the nearest zero)
How many international laws will be broken this week?

This is captivating viewing, literally can feel BJ squirming from here.

I'd love to know what Nadine Dorries is getting out of all this (or actually maybe I wouldn't).

The collapse of a government and a party is happening right now.

Has all the signs of a Tory strategic withdrawal from power. They are not leaving they are going into regeneration mode. Labour should watch and learn, ready for the GE.
Yep, great analysis as ever Mm. This is a massive signal of strength from the Tory party. Watch and learn Labour.

Thank god the public didn't vote for Labour. But Miliband couldn't eat a bacon sandwich so that was probably the right decision on balance.
Would Brexit still have happened though? Granted, that's with the benefit of hindsight.

Last days of Rome for this rabble.

Wait till they see Patel eating small furry animals live....

Sunak taking his chance hoping he gets credit for toppling Boris?

Sunak gets to duck out before things really get bumpy when summer gives way to a significantly higher dependency on energy while at the same time getting to pose as man of principle

In a country with anything resembling a media that holds power to account he'd struggle to get away with it, luckily for him he doesn't live in one.

It may have done. An EU referendum was in the manifesto of the three main parties in 2015 (although they differed slightly on the terms). Corbyn was also criticised in 2016 for lukewarm EU support so that would have been different, but you cannot imagine the press being any less anti-EU, and maybe the Tories would have been even more united against the EU in 2016.

Where do you get ' strength' from? Labour needs to look for the splits and undefended territory, more insights for Labour on what comes next, if they are really lucky the Tories famed regeneration will go into free fall.
