Irrespective of whether Boris is right or wrong I don't see how May can possibly avoid sacking him.
How can one cabinet member be allowed to publicly lay down conditions for Brexit whist the government is in mid-negotiation?

A joke of a 'reform'. The rates charged on these loans means that they are a tax on graduates, as they'll never be fully repaid unless a very good wage is earned.

Labour created tuition fees. The Tories, and famously the Liberals, kept them. Now none of them have any plans for abolition. Labour like to portray themselves as being against them nowadays, but they've no actual plan for an alternative, and given the cost I can't see one coming along any time soon.

They literally had a costed manifesto promise to abolish them
 
Raising the salary you start paying back at is a good thing though (will be £25k).

The main problem is interest I think. I've been paying mine back, yet when my annual statement came through, my interest was more than what I repaid.

Labour introduced them which means they should, as a party, take a lot of the blame for the current situation. It’s politically much harder to introduce a fee than raise it imo. But fortunately the current leadership is taking a different approach and they have made it one of their central spending commitments — I don’t believe it to be merely a vote winning lie, unlike for Clegg’s Lib Dems
 
The rise to £25k threshold is actually pretty damn significant.

In terms of making it an even bigger black hole than it already is. Great for most new students though, now even more of them will never repay a penny.

A second referendum would be meaningless unless the EU agreed first they would scrap all previous negotiations and begin again. The very least they would want is the UK in the Euro, like a new member, and no more rebate. I can't see even that though, they don't trust us as Europeans now, not surprisingly, they'll just be glad to get shut. Nor will they want to encourage other states to think they can start similar processes of endless threat and negotiation and just come out of it alright at the other end. And if by some miracle new terms were offered what then, another referendum to see if people wanted that as well? It's a non-idea.

Just watched and my gosh, I don't think I've disliked a politician so much. She was speaking so god damn fast (particularly at the start)

Still too much of the Labour will wreck the economy rhetoric, even if I don't agree with scrapping tuition fees.

Marr was in great form rightly warning the dangers of Brexit to business, criticising the drop of the pound and asking 'will you resign if you don't get a deal?' 'Is the cabinet a nest of birds, full of cookoos and vultures? And 'is Boris unsackable?'. And the vacuous response "I don't answer hypertheotical questions'.

May thought she'd come for a public relations exercise and looked like she was absolutely fuming with the questioning. She might want to go after BBC's funding now. The absolute arrogance of thinking she could wing Brexit and then come on Marr.

Edit: Found the answer. It only applies to students who started in or after 2012.

Interesting. I assumed it is only for new entrants but it seems it is for everyone from the beginning of the so-called Plan 2 with 9k fees and Wonga rates. I bet the Tories thought they were being oh-so-generous.

All she has to do is sit tight and stop looking like an out of touch vicar's daughter. I don't know why she keeps putting herself in situations she clearly can't handle. Possibly including running for PM.

By 2022 Brexit will be over and the novelty of Jeremy Corbyn will have worn off, but she seems intent on screwing it up before then.
 
Bizarre plan to freeze tuition fee's and raise the repayment threshold. I've no idea why this Conservative leadership think it's a good idea to look at Labour policies and try to put forward policies that are a fraction of the generosity. You aren't going to win voters who want free tuition fee's and you aren't going to win back the backing of more traditional voters.

A far, far more logical and vote winning idea would be to cut taxes in the form of an increase in the tax free allowance for everyone over the next few years to a level whereby it would be (worst case) cost neutral for students earning £25k (ie their tax relief will be at least equal to their tuition repayment).

Changing the repayment threshold just means more debt will be written off in the future (so essentially a de facto reduction of tuition fee's) and an increase of Government debt.

It'll probably show when these feckwits get voted out at the next GE - with an average age of party members of 72 there's only so much you can achieve.

People, especially the under 45s according to latest research, are deserting the Tories in droves and it's partly because of the likes of Johnson and Rees Mogg that they are doing so. The party is self destructing and has a rapidly ageing voter base - this is an existential crisis.

Johnson or Rees-Mogg will lead them into lengthy oblivion. The game is up.

She meant to say 'run on the pound' but said 'run on the ground' because that's where the P45 dropped. She gets thrown very easily and it's why she's so poor in debates.
