Tanker drivers are highly trained in health and safety due to delivering highly flammable liquid. The army will have to undertake this training.
This government are shameless
Expect a tirade of headlines with "is this the worst generation of young people ever" to appear from the usual suspects if anyone complains.Just saw that too. Any other ways the young can be fecked over?

Christ, my nephew in Melbourne will have to face this down the line. The Tories worldwide taking the anti-intellectualism 'people are tired of experts' to the nth degree. In Australia the "Tories" just doubled the course prices of BA's (average BA is now over AUD$40k) and any degree that seemingly did not fit into a conservative narrative about whom deserves higher education. This was after debt repayment thresholds were lowered a few years ago. If you get a whiff of "uni fees have to increase so the country is better prepared for the post-covid economy"....fight like hell
Why does the Tory party hate the young so much? What's the benefit for them?
Why does the Tory party hate the young so much?
That’s a given, the problem is that the Tories are doing everything they can to pull the ladder up behind them. By the time it gets to that point, the electoral system will have been crafted even more in their favour. They don't hate the young as such but they look to tax the people that don't vote for them rather than the ones that do. I do think that they're playing a dangerous game in the medium to long term. There are more than a few political scientists that predict the UK will start returning left wing governments in a generation or two.
Labour should get fully on board with the progressive alliance for election reformThat’s a given, the problem is that the Tories are doing everything they can to pull the ladder up behind them. By the time it gets to that point, the electoral system will have been crafted even more in their favour.
Because the young will never vote for them. The Tories have nothing to lose. Why does the Tory party hate the young so much? What's the benefit for them?
I mean army drivers move highly explosive erm explosives so I would guess this isn't an insurmountable issue ... that said how many drivers can the army free up - 500? 1000? ... it might be enough to help with fuel deliveries in the short term but wont address the longer term shortage and associated supply chain issuesTanker drivers are highly trained in health and safety due to delivering highly flammable liquid. They vote 70%-80% Labour. Why does the Tory party hate the young so much? What's the benefit for them?
Labour should get fully on board with the progressive alliance for election reform
Lab, Lib, SNP, Greens, Plaid agree to only have 1 candidate stand and to support that candidate and al candidates have in their manifestio that they will pass immediate electoral reform for a PR system then call a new election
Probably delivers a big majority and a government is formed.. Passes PR then dissolves
Finally allows Labour to fragment, Greens will likley get much more than 1mp under a PR system... SNP probably extract some agreement for indy ref 2
All achievable if Lab and Lib sign up to this for the next election
The government is to suspend competition law to allow oil firms to target fuel deliveries at petrol stations following recent panic buying.
Officials said the move would make it easier for companies to share information and prioritise parts of the country most at need.
It follows days of long queues at the pumps, after fears of disruption to the fuel supply sparked panic buying.

Whilst ignoring that the tories and the brexit party did the same thing in the last election without so much as a peep.If that was to ever happen, looking forward to them all being condemned by the press as traitors to democracy..

Why would Lib, SNP, Greens, Plaid voters come together to vote to remove Tories just to allow Labour to take power? The parties themselves might agree to some sort of pre-Electoral Deal, which more or less says "lend us your vote, trust us we are honest politicians", but would the electorate agree to (or should it be, fall for) that?
The money was just resting in their account.Sorry what happened there? Southwestern tried to hide 25m?
Well let’s see how many rest in front of a court of law. I’m guessing none. More likely certain ministers will have new houses from somewhereThe money was just resting in their account.
Sir Keir Starmer is at war with Labour's left over demands for the party to back increasing the minimum wage to £15 an hour.
The Unite union is putting the motion calling for the minimum wage to increase to £15 to a vote on Tuesday.

The Tories, even though they have twelve men on the pitch and the ref is bent, continually leave an open goal. And if Labour don't fall on the ball, one of their team mates pushes them over.
Let's not hold the Tories to account for the mounting levels of shit they're producing, let's argue with one another!
If it's not Momentum causing drama and infighting it's the fecking unions - and I say that as a union member. They're like those twats you see out in public who have to disrupt everyone else with their bullshit to show how "against the system" they are.
It's just so monumentally frustrating. You mean we can have power if we find a compromise for this one thing? No chance, burn it all down. Our local Labour members facebook group is terrible for it. They want a very specific government and aren't willing to flex even if it means years more of Tory rule.

Angela Rayner can play the part of the Labour pit-bull attack dog, but Starmer has to be seen to have her firmly on the lead and to yank her back now and again... down girl, down! Angela in turn has to show her teeth/fierceness and willingness to go off on one, but only occasionally, loyalty from top to bottom is required from Labour.... its possible the last chance saloon looming at the next GE.
All good 'knockabout stuff' from Labour Conference.
We are too far away from the GE to be serious, especially with Boris having the 80+ majority.
Labour would do well to get all the blood-letting and the naff (Shit, scum, nasty people) speeches done with now and out of their system, the working people of this country cannot afford to have Labour b**ls it up again.

I think Reyner misjudged it ... and this yougov poll seems to confirm that
Even amongst Labour voters it polls terribly - and it polls worse with all other groups
many of the British public will be uncomfortable with her description. Me included.
I don't have anything wrong with the pushing, but I'm just worried that it's going to lead again to the party imploding because nobody can discuss these things without trying to kill one another.Strange take, how dare the unions push for increased wages at conference of a social democratic party!
