Westminster Politics

Like rats. They are all fecking pathetic.

This is what he said before.

To be totally fair, while I do not think anything these lot do are with any sort of good intentions, I do believe that someone should be able to change their view on a person and their competency in a role after seeing them in that role. I find it more worrying when someone sticks to their initial thoughts no matter what, regardless of what has transpired since then.

They are just rats in a barrel. They know the gig is up so they're scrambling to save their own seats or future speaking gigs. Truss is just paid to prattle economic right wing lunacy she neither understands nor cares to understand. The few tory mps with career prospects have already said they're quitting, the ones panicking now are the real loons, especially in the red wall, who know that if they weren't an MP they'd be at best a used car salesman! It's rumoured that there's at least 30 to 40 more Tory MP's that have been reselected, but haven't publicly confirmed that they will stand at the next election. The likes of Jeremy Hunt might not stand. They are Fecked and they know it!

Discretion being the better part of valor, or "he who fights and runs away lives to fight another day."

The great Tory party 'churn' is about to begin, but don't let them fool you, they are only off to do some personal bloodletting off camera, then they re-arm, re-train and re-appear at the next GE.

Starmer needs a good majority and to hit the ground running the day the Labour Party wins. Every minister in the new cabinet needs to have been chosen (beforehand) and know what they have to do and the time frame for doing it.
"Stiffen the sinews and summon up the blood..." etc.

Can Cameron do PM again?
He'd need to stand as an MP again, according to this today in the Tel. They're getting excited about which next leader will drive Britain into outright fascism.

 at the 'shitshow' comment and Sunak saying things are improving.

Sunak looks destroyed.

They are most certainly not improving and someone needs to ask Sunak on what basis does he say that.
How can they improve when the government funding to child care providers is significantly below their cost rate.

Who do you vote for?

Looks like the Labour campaign is again going to be 'we're not the Tories', only instead of Corbyn's batshit policies its going to be no policies at all.

I know loads of people who have said they will abstain.

Labour will win but it probably won't be as comfortable as they'd hoped last year. Their issue is, like you say, that too many won't vote. This country is also insane and the Tories will probably pick up votes if they replace Sunak.

I'd also say that if Labour went to this election with 95% of Corbyn's 2017 manifesto, they'd absolutely annihilate the Tories. The man who everyone apparently hated wasn't a million miles away from forming a Government.

Anyone heard if Corbyn is standing as an independent, yet? Fingers crossed he does.

I don’t understand why Starmer doesn’t more frequently call for a GE. Whenever Sunak is going on about how great things are and how they are delivering - the really simple retort is “well then why doesn’t he call for a GE?”

In 2019, he really was a million miles away from forming a government if you recall. Or did you forget that bit....

In 2019, he was miles away. In 2017, he was very close.

People ultimately didn't like him but liked a lot of the policies put forward in 2017. The 2019 election was ultimately a second referendum and Labour's fumbled party line on Brexit cost them votes on both sides of that divide.

Honestly I doubt he will make any decision before the election is announced and candidates have to declare. It is better optics for any number of reasons for Labour to choose a candidate for the seat. That will allow him to say that Labour left him, and he can stand as an independent.

That 2017 election was crazy. Theresa May presenting a plan for social care and Labour running on the policy of ensuring millionaire pensioners keep their homes to win votes (it worked). Plus we had everyone in favour of trans rights. Crazy how far we have moved in less than 7 years.

Can Cameron do PM again?
Technically he can, by convention the PM is an MP but there's no actual rule or law that says the PM has to be an MP, prior to 1902 it was not that uncommon for a member of the Lords to be PM, since then it's happened once, Alec Douglas-Home was a member of the Lords in 1963 and became PM, he renounced hisntitle shortly after and thus was no longer a member of the Lords

That is correct. But ultimately it was also Corbyn weakness, dithering and lack of leadership. I for one was for the first time in my life questioning whether I really wanted to vote for this guy.
And remember that in 2017 he was up against a very weak opponent in May.

Anyway I am glad that he is no longer leader.

Tory social housing plan aims to prioritise ‘British homes for British workers’

Exclusive: Proposals to be put forward next month will favour UK citizens, but experts say they are likely to be illegal or unworkable

https://www.theguardian.com/politic...-prioritise-british-homes-for-british-workers
It is reasonable to have people living in Britain to be preferred house buyers over foreign companies/individuals (residing abroad) and British companies. The first flat I was paying rent at was owned by a company based in Dubai, in order to get some house work done urgently they had to contact the company and it took several days, was an absolute nightmare.

This would be reasonable if the same government hadn't spent the last decade and a half making it piss easy to sell mansions and houses in central London to foreign billionaires, fuelling house price inflation and impacting housing stock, as those same properties sit empty 11 months of the year.

At least this way they get to shift the blame for that mess to the foreign nurses and social care workers who are earning 25k a year.

I'd be happy if Starmer did anything, let alone call for a GE. Corbyn was totally unelectable but at least people knew what he stood for. Starmer acts like a back bench MP rather than leader of the opposition.

i think if this was the case i’d have read about it in the telegraph or times. typical left wing doom mongering.

Apologies for being unclear, but when I say foreign individuals I meant people not resident in the UK. As long as you are living in the UK you should be allowed to buy a house, nationality doesn't matter.

Ok, but the movement towards making life miserable for immigrants moving to the UK is despicable.

The tories aren’t building any social housing as it would destroy the property value of their old voter base

The article is specifically about social housing, i.e. provided by your local council. They want councils to prioritise housing British people over immigrants.
