What should we do with Mata if Mourinho is appointed?

Would you like to see Mata sold this summer? Would you like to see him sold next summer once we've strengthened a bit more? Would you like to see Mourinho keep him as a squad player? Or would you like him to remain part of the first eleven?

A poll on this would be nice if possible!

I love the guy, but if he doesn't fit in the new manager's plans then it would be best if he moved on.

Sell him, a decision which ought to be made irrespective of the manager.

Give him a season as #10. Sell after that if he's shit.

Mourinho does like players with pace and power about them. He seems to like those with bags of energy, unfortunately Mata has none of those qualities :(

Although i hope i'm wrong

Let Mourinho decide.

I'd like to see him given a chance though - one of my favourite players and has quality that many in our team don't have.

Mata was sold by Chelsea because his defensive work rate wasn't very good. He has improved this considerably since he has arrived, so he might still find a place in the team.

Everyone just assumes he's out of the door the second Mourinho walks in, but at Chelsea Mourinho had alternatives, something we aren't really blessed with at the moment. I reckon he'll stay, but a lot depends on our transfer activity. Too early to say it's a done deal.

He can replace Cina as caf modmin.

With all due respect I'm much more concerned about Rashford and maybe even Martial than Mata. It's arguable he's even good enough to be in our starting XI now let alone after a summer of Mourinho spending

Fairly relaxed about individual players, trust the new manager's judgement, and as long as the results go well, that's the key.

Only a few would be gutting to see go, De Gea and Martial the obvious standouts.

Eh the player who made and scored many goals in last 2 seasons for us is not good enough. Good god people.

I would understand if people say he probably does not fit how we or certain managers want us to play.

I am not even so sure that Mata will be sold. Jose might just change his mind about Mata or might see something else in him which he didn't when he was playing for Chelsea. I hope he stays.

It's not just about his defensive work-rate. He's a very limited player even as a #10. Can't beat players, hold on to the ball, and very rarely makes incisive passes. He's a second tier player who requires the whole side to be built around negating his weaknesses to be effective.

I don't think Jose had anything against Mata - he just felt that Oscar was a bit more effective at tracking back, which made Juan surplus to requirements.

Sell him to Atletico or Juve.

He's been a decent player at Old Trafford, but generally terrible in big games and away from home.

I wouldn't mind him staying as an impact sub, at least he can hit a mean free kick.

I'll have him...

Positively awful today... :wenger:

I'm expecting an influx of pace and power and I just don't see Mata suiting Jose now anymore than he did at Chelsea, his workrate wasn't bad there, it was just used as an excuse not to play him as he's too slow and weak for what Mourinho likes in the attacking 3rd.

What? That's when he actually shines!

Or did I imagine him scissor-kicking the winner against Liverpool last season?

Just not good enough, Chelsea absolutely pulled our pants down with him. Sell him to the highest bidder.

Yeah, not as if he's been our 2nd highest goal scorer since he signed...

We probably did get mugged off by a few million, however, given the state of our team since he signed, he's been quite good.

We're short enough on attackers as it is, he should be kept at least for the first year. Hopefully he gets back to how good he was at Chelsea before Mourinho. If not, he'll probably head back to Spain.

Well, I am generalising. He has had the odd moment of brilliance.

He is the very definition of a luxury player though. I could not understand why Mourinho chose Oscar over him at the time, but I totally get it now. Even if Oscar failed to maintain a decent level afterwards.
