Where do you expect us to finish this season?

We walked the league with the same team last season. This season? Where did Everton finish last season?

1st or 2nd if Moyes has a good season. 3rd if he does rather poor. 4th if he's out of his depth.

I cannot understand how anyone can think he can finish 4th and it'd be OK. If that happens, it's curtains

No chance. If he gets us into the CL next season, he'll be kept on.

We should finish first. We're Manchester United. We walked the League last season. Sadly we pissed it all away during summer.

Kagawa had a disrupted pre-season and travelled a lot of miles. He hasn't looked anywhere near top fitness in the few cameos he's had, so there's nothing to suggest throwing him in at Anfield or the Etihad would have been a good idea. Didn't he then also miss a game because of flu? Same sort of scenario with Nani. People like to push the narrative that Moyes doesn't fancy these sort of players, but why would he have awarded Nani a new long-term deal?

What about games that have ended and he didn't used subs. Swansea, Palace, today, all games that could have been used to try to get players fit once the game was ended (after 60-70 minutes). I don'k know abou Nani, he's strong so he'll get chances but I worry about Chicha and Kagawa, sincerely I think that they won't get chances and leave at the end of the season.

We need to face it - Moyes had a bloody difficult start to the season in terms of fixtures handed to him, and he's tried to play it safe. In hindsight, he could've gone for it a bit more, but I understand his reluctance. Again, let's not overly romanticise the Fergie era and pretend he always went for the jugular - he didn't.

Moyes has been heavily criticized at Everton foe being very cautious and looking for a draw instead of a win. He has done exactly the same here, which is a bit worrying. The never dying attitute attributed to United was because of SAF looking for the win. Even in last season when it was one of the most ugliest United teams for a long time, we still won a lot of games in the last minutes because of SAF went for the jugular.

You say that even if the likes of Nani and Kagawa weren't match fit, they'd be better than Young. Really? Nani's put in some absolutely atrocious performances over the years when he's not right on his game.

Yes. Everyone is better than Young. Even if we genetically create a player from bad genes of Milner and Downing, he'll be better than Young.

It's too bloody late for this debate. Let's revisit this after the next six Premier League games. I'm confident that the likes of Nani and Kagawa will have seen far more action, and you'll be able to rest assured.

Inherits a team of champions, makes one expensive addition and fails to finish anywhere near to where we should be. Nah.

If we finished outside the top 4 I would expect him to walk.

Top 4 probably but not winning the title. This season will be a steep learning curve for Moyes and getting to grips with the job at hand. I don't think anything he's done so far could have prepared him for this job and it'll take a while before he grows into the job, if he ever does.

The only way he's getting sacked is if we finish something ridiculous like 8th.

We didn't give Moyes a 6 year contract for nothing. This is part of a long term plan.

I think he'd have to go if we finished outside the top 4. Pete was right when he said dropping out of the Champions League spots is the new relegation.

If finishing outside of top 4 while playing lousy football without changing anything in a title winning side is acceptable because it's a long term plan then I'd be extremely worried about the direction we'd be heading in.

I think he'd survive finishing 6th. If it was worse than that I think we'd look at it, but I fully expect Fergie and Sir Bobby would get behind him and steel the Glazers' resolve.

I just don't think we'd sack him after one season, especially if Fergie has has any influence. I think he'll get two seasons minimum (bar anything extraordinary).

if we had played horrible today and got a lucky 1-0 win this thread would be completely different. we're 3 points behind after that horrible run and while we accumulated a measly 7 points, city and chelsea (who are our only rivals imo) have 10.

i am sure we will be top of the league on November 1st.

I personally doubt that, SAF said himself that winning the league is the target and 6th is a huge distance away from that. I know managers need time etc and we gave SAF plenty, but this is a league winning squad, to go from 1st to 6th would be a catastrophe and too damning for Moyes IMO.

You might be right. Given how publicly it was made clear that Moyes was Fergie's choice, he's not going to want to admit he chose the wrong man. If there's one thing Fergie is, it's stubborn.

Still think we'll finish first, City being good today doesn't change the fact they looked bellow average against mediocre teams, and Chelsea doesn't look great so far either. We need to show quality in our next 5 fixtures though, that's most important now.

The problem I'm having at the moment is that, as we are now, I'm feeling uncomfortable at the thought of playing any team of about Tottenham standard and upwards. Throw in the Liverpool derby again and that is not a good place to be at.

We'll improve, but we need to be absolutely ruthless with the lower table teams over this coming period. Build up some momentum and then develop a system that can hold its own against other quality teams.

I admire United for giving a British manager a chance, and it's commendable, but I don't believe he's the right man long term.

That said, he could finish anywhere this season. It's up for grabs. Somewhere between 1st and 4th.

I read that as 1st and 14th and nearly had a heart attack!

I think we'll struggle home and away against all top 6 sides, I don't expect us to win more than 2-3 games against them. As long as we do well against lower tier teams we should finish about 3rd no problem but the way Arsenal have been playing I wouldn't be surprised to see us behind them. Our another problem is that teams like Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool are no mugs and could put some pressure on us throughout the season.

Arsenal's recent form: WWWWWDWDWWWLWWWWWWW.

We're no mugs in this league title.

You look far far better then us atm, it has to be said. And I was one of the people dismissing any chance of a title bid from Arsenal this season.

I guess if anyone other then ourselves does win the title, I'd prefer Arsenal to the rest.

If Fellaini flops and we finish outside top 4, fans'll be on his back big time.

It's early days. I think we're on the edge of a defeat, myself. We got quite fortunate today with the three cheap goals that made a tight game seem comfortable. I'll be reassessing nearer Christmas.

If he finished outside the top 4 with the squad that won the league handily last season, it will be a huge failure on his part. Expectations have to be high because of the quality of players he has. There's no excuse for finishing outside of the top 4 with our squad.

Amazing how quickly that feeling has come about isn't it? We've had shit starts to seasons before and with easier fixtures, but without Fergie it feels like we're highly vulnerable.

I did feel similar during the opening few games last year mind you, but then we kept inexplicably winning in baffling ways despite playing some of the most shite football imaginable. The more I think about it the more I think that title win was Fergie's most impressive.

You're more like a golden goblet with that form. Very impressive.

I've always thought we were mostly poor against them away from home, even if we sometimes managed to snatch a result or two. At home I always felt comfortable though as we were usually good even against good and great sides but after a very flat spineless and devoid of any genuine desire performance against Chelsea I'm not so sure anymore (it was just one game mind).

I think, ultimately, this season might be a season or two early in terms of winning the title in all honesty. Mainly because of your squad depth, I think you'd need some really good luck with injuries and suspensions. But you never know, stranger things have happened....With a couple of Ozil like signings in the right areas, and a bit more squad depth, you'll be right up there over the next few years though. It looks like the money is finally there for you to now make big signings, so the future definitely looks good for Arsenal.

Last year you won the league because of your results away at the top teams.

Wins away at Anfield, Eastlands and Stamford Bridge in one season is a massive bonus. Draws away to Arsenal and Spurs weren't poor results either.

You were never going to replicate it this season. The table does lie. United's start has been ludicrous and I agree with Moyes when he insinuates that the league have stitched him up. United's fixtures are no coincidence. All it does though is put immense pressure on you for the coming five games. Playing Sunderland with a new manager might be interesting.
