Who is going to be the Next Prime Minister of the UK? | Be your stubborn best

Boris you fecking coward.

What a pussy.

You campaign to Leave and then you dont have the fecking balls to be the one to push the button.

Coward.

Boris burned down the country for nothing. His political career is over.
MPs who backed Boris are already heading for May.

Of course he won't. He'll let the others negotiate the EU deal and then he will come out saying that he could have done better.

What makes you think that? Because she was on the remain side?
Because the bloke that pretty much won it for the Leave side clearly does not have the strength of his convictions and almost certainly did it to become PM and now Gove has stabbed him in the back he's backed away. None of the promises of Leave will be delivered in any way whatsoever and so the whole thing is a sham. Hopefully May will see it that way.
Boris thought he was getting one over Cameron but what is clear is that Cameron has won.

GE, hung parliament, coalition, Tories rebuild without the sceptics. Stay in EU.
Price worth paying.

Yah, i can see that doing wonder to heal the disillusionment in our democratic process. And we'd go from UKIP being without their main reason for existence, to being more powerful than ever before. The mind boggles.

I think ppl are being unfair on Boris even if I do want him no where near No 10. He's not being cowardly he simply just doesn't have the support now with Gove standing.

The country didn't vote Leave because of Boris. Boris just positioned himself against Osbourne using the debate.

The poor little thing!

Im not sympathising with him at all; just trying to make sense of his decision! For the record, I cannot stand the man and suspect that deep down he is a nasty racist.

I think he was very concerned/scared shitless at the vitriol and abuse he would get and would be historically documented on TV and the press forever. By not standing, that scenario is largely avoided to a few days where he is simply called a weasel and that he bottled it.

Gove will now bear the brunt of being the BrExit-er who broke the nation.

Lots of stalking horses in our top-level politics these days.

I agree, Cameron showed Boris up. I know we shouldn't trust politicians, but she was pretty clear on leaving Europe.

It's such a mess right now. The leave campaigners have left this country in a mess and they are all running and hiding. Makes me angry really

I'm surprised he gave up without a fight but realistically he had no chance against either Gove or May, they would have obliterated him in debates.

By my reckoning, that's 4 out of the 6 main players on both sides of the referendum whose hearts weren't really in it; only Farage stands out, so to speak. We've been deceived. Carve up.

Isn't Javid backing Stephen Crabb already ?

This is such a mess, with loads of questionable substances rising to the top.

May is a dangerous; i hope that the membership remembers the speech she gave at last year's party conference, which was just blatant cynicism in the end with her backing of Remain. Neutral watchers probably won't think it worth remarking upon, but a highly Eurosceptic rank and file should have different ideas.

Stephen Crabb addresses the problem of his much-criticised views on homosexuality:

"I welcome this question and would like to answer it head-on. Look! There's a pteradactyl over there!" *points, runs*

OK, I feel, firstly, that we should all remember that I've been completely right on everything so far, :wenger:

So... I think Andrea Leadsom is a genuine contender to win now. Even as far as Leadsom vs May being 'interesting' if it gets as far as a vote by the Tory membership.

Gove has clearly been put up to the whole thing, they want him 2nd to May now. Whoever, 'they' are.

This is all 'A Managed Exit from Brexit' or careful positioning to cover ALL eventualities, avoidance of civil disorder, flexibility in all areas, confidence in markets, keeping EU sweet or at least not even more pissed off than they already are

I think in a few years time well see a great House of Cards-esque TV Show/Movie/Book made out of this whole affair.

Seriously, Theresa May, Michael Gove and Andrea Leadsom. What a shit show. We're fecked.

Boris keeping out of it the best news we've had all week, though.

My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.

Boris Johnson drops out of Conservative Leadership race having been the chief catalyst who persuaded the UK to inflict the most ridiculous form of self sabotage ever seen. I think he was very concerned/scared at the vitriol and abuse he would get and would be historically documented on TV and the press forever. By not standing, that scenario is largely avoided to a few days where he is simply called a weasel and that he bottled it.

Michael Gove launches his own bid with a speech which savages Boris Johnson as a man not capable of leading BUT he stated several times he was not interested in becoming Prime Minister. What a weasel.

Meanwhile, over at Labour HQ, Jeremy Corbyn is still leader of the opposition, despite 75% of his MPs stating they have no confidence in him.

This feels like some satirical movie on how reality TV destroyed British politics. Is it surprising that parliamentary politicians are the people most detested by the UK public?

They're bound to shoehorn Rooney in there somewhere.
