Incorrigible pest
Polite was to say he has lost pace to be a striker. Lucky for him he's a very good all round footballer and can playmake a bit.
Because we lack a top midfielder.
And Rooney is the answer? He's been consistently average(as a midfielder) for quite some time now.Because we lack a top midfielder.
Obviously Rooney is not the answer. And Rooney is the answer? He's been consistently average(as a midfielder) for quite some time now.
Then maybe that is what it will take for LvG to see sense. If LVG's long term plan is to play Rooney in midfield then I'm worried. He can get away with it against cannon fodder like Leicester at home, but will be found out against top teams.
Then maybe that is what it will take for LvG to see sense.
Well yes, it would be awkward. He does have a position it is a forward. Then we're left with a problem...a captain without a position.

Why does he have to do this, move players into positions they are really suited, just so he can massage his own ego? That he knew all along that Wayne was a midfielder and previous managers were idiots.I'd have him upfront, but apparently LVG isn't a fan. So God knows where that leaves us.
It is? Ridiculous situation. Just thinking, if he brings another lot of midfielders in the summer, what will happen to Rooney? Herrera might not moan, but other bigger more expensive player would expect to play all the time. They would not be happy playing second fiddle to a Wayne Rooney. The really depressing thing is we had £92 million worth of midfielders sat on the bench just to accomadate Rooney. Its mental.
He could, but he isn't.Because he can still score a whole bunch of goals whilst putting in a decent/good performance.
Scholes was a consistent 8/10 player in central midfield. Rooney is more like a 5.
Not true. He's not a 8/10 midfielder. He's average in central midfield. Herrera, Blind, Carrick and even perhaps Fellaini are better midfielders than him.
The way the strikers until today have been playing, I wouldn't way they are better than Wayne, their reputations might be, but not in reality.Because we have strikers that are better or at least at his level, he is driven and tactically disciplined, can attack and defend and also has a good range of passing.
Jack of all trades but master at none.
Because we lack a top midfielder.
I blame Ferguson, he just had to have his precious RVP signing
He can play in midfield but not surprisingly will not be very consistent and given the nature of his game will give away possession. He was our best player in the 2nd half against City for instance.
I blame Ferguson, he just had to have his precious RVP signing (not to mention he also bought Kagawa for the nr 10 position) instead of buying an actual midfielder !
Than you get discussions about what to with Rooney because he is too valuable to be dropped and timing to sell him wasn't right either (never would get a fair deal for him) so the solution than always results in him playing more as a midfielder.
What we should have done back in the day was fecking leave Rooney were he was being up top as our main striker (and having another attacking player in support), stayed clear from RVP and invested some money in an actual real midfielder like Modric (or even beter just played Pogba and kept him here instead of chasing him into the clutches of fecking Juve).
It's because he isn't actually brilliant in any position, so he ends up playing in a position where there is no other standout players.
All managers want him in the team but noone wants him in the team at the expense of other top players (Ruud, Ronaldo, RVP etc).
This is it really.Nah it isn't just Van Gaal; Fergie moved Rooney all over the show for years and even Moyes tried him as a midfielder, number 10 & number 9. He isn't a better number 9 than RVP, isn't a better number 10 than Mata and isn't a better central midfielder than Herrera or Blind. However he does bring a hell of a lot to the table so every manager would try to shoehorn him in somewhere.
Most teams would just put him up front as a number 9 and accept his flaws in that position. However with Falcao and RVP no manager of our current squad would do this.
I blame Ferguson

Personally I find this a bit of a myth. Rooney has all the right ingredients. Even his first touch which isn't the best in midfield seems to be brilliant. He is a natural goal scorer.

I think he was brilliant the one season that played up top (2009-10.) For some reason, he hasn't really played there since. It's because he isn't actually brilliant in any position, so he ends up playing in a position where there is no other standout players.
