Wisconsin teens participate in Nazi salute

Hilarious reaction to a bunch of teens lifting their hand in a Nazi style salute in Wisconsin, USA for a photo.
Apparently someone said lift your hands and students found it funny to raise it in Nazi salute style, just for fun.

After the photo came into the news, the school authorities, police and all were brought in. Some of the students have lost their college scholarships and media wants to see some real punishments (like destroying their careers)

Media wants blood.

The school administration is now investigating, and Baraboo police tweeted that they are assisting. It's unclear why police would be involved with this -- throwing up a Nazi salute is disgusting and offensive, but it is not and should not be illegal. Still, the school needs to take this seriously. That doesn't mean just a slap on the wrist. The school should have a policy on racist bullying (and if it doesn't, it needs to implement one immediately), and the students should face meaningful consequences -- suspension at the very least, and certainly alerting any colleges to which these students have been accepted.

Right-wing terrorism, including white supremacist and anti-Semitic terrorism, is the biggest domestic terror threat Americans now face. Is each student who raised a Nazi salute in that photo a potential terrorist? Of course not. But this is not merely youthful hijinks. We don't know why these particular young men went along with this pose, but it bears a chilling similarity to the gesture of genocidal regimes that many white supremacist terrorists display. It's no joke.

Given what's come out about the racist bullying going on there and being ignored by the school, hopefully this national spotlight will lead to something being done.

Not sure what's "hilarious" about the reaction.

Anyone who holds their views, shares their practices, or uses their regalia yes. Using the word Nazi itself is needed to identify them.

I am all for catching the kids on bullying and making them accountable. I am all for sensitizing teenagers about making such poses, but unless they have in anyway harmed the society, I don't think just because they found it funny to raise their hands in a particular way for one photo, they should be punished.
 
The fact they all joined in is what gets me :lol:

As long as they don't share the practices or hold the same views, I don't really see a problem. And raising a hand for one pic because someone else did it shouldn't really be harshly punished.

So you think it's not a big deal, or hilarious as you put it, that people can fool around giving obvious Nazi salutes. Why is it funny for you?
Words are not illegal but some actions should have some consequences. Would you find it funny if this bunch of wankers were walking down main street doing this?

I called the reaction hilarious. Not the act. The students need to be sensitized about not doing such things. Because it hurts people who were affected by such acts in the past.
If this is what they do on a regular basis, yes there is need for action. If it was just one pic, I don't think it warrants extreme actions.

I am not their lawyer to make any arguments. If they were punished for being a bully and being racist, then good thing.

I was just assuming that they don't go about giving Nazi salutes on daily basis. Maybe I am wrong and maybe that's what they do.

Using the word Nazi in a descriptive manner is in no means comparable to doing the salute, which apart from very specific situations like for a movie scene is pretty meaningful in its intentions.

It is illegal in Germany btw.
 
I’m glad about them losing scholarships and colleges being alerted to this. If you’re this stupid you deserve to lose your future, and I say this with no remorse, that’s before you even take into consideration the other things posted in this thread about other acts of racism and bullying.

I don't see it as a valid comparison. Anyways, my bad. As people pointed out, they are all bunch of racist bullying kids apparently. So they are being punished.

As high school seniors they should be astute enough to recognize the impact giving Nazi salutes might have. As much as America is a wasteland of ignorance when it comes to the world at large, they are all aware of the reputed horrors of the Nazi's final solution.

Looks like a few of them didn't do it-fair play to those ones (I can't believe I need to congratulate people on not throwing up a Nazi salute).

Regularity is pretty obviously an issue. They did something idiotic (presumably/hopefully) as a one off. If they wake up every morning and do it to start their day, that's obvioysly a different ballpark.

You do wonder when it's a group situation why someone doesn't say 'actually this is a really bad idea'. Sounds they've been materially if some have lost scholarships. Diligent HR departments could find these pics, so it's on them for life.

I bet they won't do it again.
 
Seems like the school routinely allowed shitbag students free reign.
