Wisconsin teens participate in Nazi salute

i'm just holding up a mirror my man, if you want people not to treat you like a moron, don't go around telling people they're worthless and stupid while posting stupid things
Turn that mirror around buddy. Only one doing that is you!

@villain And its clear you see something that isn't there, because you want it to be one way but it isn't that. I can see there would be an issue if it meant something more, like you thought, but I assure you it doesn't. As i first said, I can understand your point if it was about the wording in the sentence alone and I truly concede the fact it can look provoking on the surface of it if focusing on the key words and if you ignore the context. You can't prove I only think about black people immediately when thinking about gangs, based on this conversation and the fact I used them as an example. I don't see the issue in that.

It's all about the bigger picture.

I love how you never actually contribute anything meaningful or thoughtful to discussions you just chat shite from your moral high horse.

I even tagged you in a long post taking my time to explain things and do you reply in kind with effort? Nope, you just go back to your shitposting.

I’m not even sure where or why this hypothetical ‘repressed gay kid’ fits into all of this, nor what his hypothetical sexual orientation has to do with not being part of the core social group at all - it seems like another unnecessary comment being included part of your wider reasoning.
I mean I would assume a kid that is gay would not flourish in an environment that literally condemn him. They are saluting hitler in that picture, don't forget. It is part of my wider reasoning because people seemed ready to condemn all these guys without even knowing who is who, only based on a picture of them throwing their hand up.

Dude, I'll post whatever I want. Put me on fecking ignore and move on.

No, I'll just keep calling out your low effort trolling and shitposts. I find it telling you can't reply to rational arguments so you just keep wumming. Maybe you should put me on ignore since you can't seem to resist trying to talk shite.

Whatever rocks your boat.

So perhaps you can answer a question.

Do you believe college admissions officers and scholarships should not be allowed to take this Nazi salute into consideration?

The correct response to this is, to threaten to ruin their lives. Expulsion. College scholarships withdrawn. Make them believe it. Then let them off with a less severe punishment. They are kids, but they do need to be taught that this is not OK behavior. At the same time, you can't just immediately go to the slap on the wrist, because that's what they expect. If there isn't deep emotional based fear from what they think is going to happen to them, it won't effect any sort of change in their behavior.

They need to have, for lack of a better term, the fear of god put into them, and then, when they think that their world is crumbling, put an arm around their shoulders and let them off with something moderate.

My 5 year old son can distinguish between gestures and language that can be widely offensive or hurtful.

feck off with that "oh every one makes mistakes when they're young" shit. It's not the same thing when the meaning and connotations are thoroughly embedded in our history curriculum.

Of course ffs. Same as with these kids. If you are sure the kid is a little hateful racist cnut then go ahead and punish them accordingly. Altough I do believe that kids that young can always turn it around and see where they went wrong, as we're often a product of our surroundings. But that's also for another thread.

Well then I commend that. As I said to MikeKing, I don't think that would be most peoples' responses and I imagine there would be a thirst for blood from the public but if you know that you would be different, then fair enough and I can only appreciate the lack of hypocrisy.

They have committed no crime, at least in that photo, and abusing people with racist or homophobic slurs isn't a crime. The *only* way to punish them is to spread the photo and see what happens.

@villain You are overanalysing and overrate your own ability to read how other people minds work. I won't take this any further as it is really silly now, and moves too far from any topic relevant. I respect your viewpoint and learned that the word savage is connected to black people as you told me, I think that is racist to connect them, but I will try to think about it in that way to avoid misunderstandings later. But no It was very much a conscious decision to pick a certain group for reference and example. It was very random in fact, and there isn't some grand meaning you are exposing. Sorry.

That is fair enough. I honestly didn't mean any harm, it was totally random. I'm a bit interested in gang-culture and I know a lot of people view all members as lost causes, and I recently learned some inside information from a Crip so that is why I referenced that gang, without specifying which gang. Also, the guy @oneniltothearsenal was the first in this thread to compare less fortunate black kids in the 90's in America to these little racist nerds. So my point was the hypocrisy in values on the view of race. I think you should apply your values to all humans. Giving one guy the benefit of doubt but not the other based on a preconceived notion is what gets me.

As I've said, the overall point you made was a good one and had nothing to do with my comment. It however has nothing to do being black.

Again, I will reiterate that I don't think you actually had any negative intent with it. But words do have meaning. Anyway, there's no point going round in circles with this, I think you've acknowledged that actually, it probably wasn't the best context to say it in and that is that.

Why do people keep saying that they’re kids? These are teenagers, not six year olds. If you told me a six year old wouldn’t understand the seriousness of what they were doing, then fair enough, but not high school teenagers.

A similar picture comes out from an Islamic school. Say in Pakistan, London, Dearborn, wherever you want to say. And the kids are holding up ISIS flags. They all claim after it is a joke, though rumours start coming out that maybe the school allows some pretty shady behaviour.

Of course not, there would be screams of “deport them! Future terrorist!” Instead of “awww we need to forgive them. They’re just little babies who don’t know what they’re doing. I’m so glad I’m not a child nowadays where people are upset about things like this”

Completely agree that they'll do just fine, unlike many of their non white colleagues who end up getting chewed up in the system.

For people saying just a slap on the wrist would do, these are just silly teens doing silly teen things..What would you think if this was a group of Muslim boys holding up....I don't know...an ISIS flag? Who swore it was nothing but a joke after? Would it also be ok to just give them a quick telling off? Or would you want something more?

Not to mention the pretty appalling systemic issues that seem to be coming out about this school.
They might still do fine, but their careers have potentially been fecked by politically correct bullshit, and if the politically correct joke police begin to impact people's lives in this way then we're heading down a bad road.

And your comparison is hyperbolic by fact of America being a white dominated country, the recency of ISIS, and the current social climate. That was merely a historical parody and a joke, similar to the likes of what I and probably many boys used to do in their younger days. The boys are completely detached from World War 2, it's another era entirely, so to compare it with an ISIS homage is bizarre. The internet and spread of information blows everything out of proportion these days. This is a nonissue and it's a joke that it's even being discussed, although does ignite good conversation.

I'm sure some of the boys on the picture aren't racists but most of them lack sense and that caption on twitter accompanying the photo certainly doesn't help.

This incident is already on wiki, right beneath the time that your Queen and her mother did it on film.

Hilarious satire mate, well played.

There's good and bad people on both sides? You've gotta be worried when you find yourself paraphrasing Trump ;)

I'm sure all of them knew the meaning of the sign. I am sure everyone here acknowledges that and since that is the case, I don't get the arguments.
Furthermore they are all high school graduates. That would put them at around 18 years of age. Some people in this thread are clutching.

America has witnessed Nazis marching in the streets very recently, along with an increase in far-right violence.

Thank you. Not the “kids” that keeps being repeated :wenger:

What a load of bollocks. The people marching in Charlottesville say hi.

I’m hoping that that post is satire, going by the “historical parody similar to what I used to do when I was younger”, though you really never can tell these days.

I'm fairly sure he's just not very bright, unfortunately.

Have you been living under a fecking rock or something?

And in what fecking world is reacting negatively to a group of 17-18 year old boys throwing a fecking nazi salute a bad thing? They're not innocent kids who know nothing, they're Americans, in an America that has recently seen a surge in far right views and violence. It's a very worrying sign that people that age would willingly be photographed doing that, in a photo that was never meant to be private. If you think this is a nonissue, your brain is broken, simple as that.

I'm incredibly fecking sick of seeing cnuts try and excuse away shitty attitudes and try to make it out as if PC or SJWs or whatever are the real problems.

And you just proved that you’re part of the problem.

You sound just like the enabling parents of kids I have to deal with all of the time because their kid is failing, yet somehow it is “my fault”.

Their potential careers are potentially in jeopardy because of their actions.

I had a Hitler European Tour t-shirt when I was 16. Teenage boys are stupid cnuts generally.

Luckily pictures were shared on slate back then

I also have no sympathy for them getting backlash for it but I hate a lot of the holier than thou cnuts you find on the internet kicking off about things as if they’ve never been an arsehole at any point in their lives.
