World Cup 2018 & 2022 bids

I'm not denying or addressing that, however, the point the other guy made was stupid, beyond stupid.

Invented or not, we should still have to bid like everyone else, after that it's a different matter. His point was that because it's our game, we should have the right whenever we want.

I said that earlier in this thread. But having it whenever we want would be stupid, we could just have it every four years and be very bored. But certain privileges should exist I reckon, after a large amount of time, typically over 40 years as it's been (soon it'll be over 55 years) before we hosted a world cup. A courtesy should be offered to us, and Greece for the Olympics.

Yes, it's a little dictatorial but by god it's the only way we'll ever get it.

I suspect it was more carrot that stick that influenced that call.

We already know it was. It's not even a well kept secret that this is how Fifa operate, in fact it hasn't been for years! and we'd already been told that Russia were the ones supplying the biggest carrot.

Why is anyone surprised?

England will never host (or win for that matter) another world cup because they're just about the only ones still trying to play by the rules.

Corruption will destroy international football long before 2018. Mark my words...it's already well on it's way to finishing the job before 2014.

Shocking

Blatter has been a cnut for ages though, it is no secret he dislikes how the Premier League has become the best on the planet.

Blatter to be fair, isn't responsible for this monstrosity(Qatar particularly). It's that gobshite Warner and all the faceless knobs with fat wallets that FIFA get to vote on these issues.

Moscow's summers are warmer than England's. I agree that England has better stadia and facilities, but Russia's will be far from a concern, especially if they can implement the high speed rail network that is being talked about. I think you are underestimating their ability to host a good World Cup.

Although you are right in saying that racism is a big issue.

They won't get anything like the same number of fans from around the world.

Talksport are a disgrace...Adrian Durham is implicity accusing oil barons of bribing FIFA and saying Arshavin should be booed because he's happy to take Arsenal fans money every week, then he goes and does that to us.

Did talksport really expect him to promote England just because he plays for Arsenal.

Am I right in saying that you cannot drink in Qatar ??

You're talking about hundreds of thousands of beer drinking footy nuts, hot pant clad Brazilian, Dutch and Swedish women.......... all heading to a nation with a zero tolerance on alcohol and saucy behaviour ????

Right then, I hope they have big tv's in the cells.

I can't believe a country smaller than the one I live in has a World Cup. I mean, what are they going to do with all the stadiums they're going to build when the World Cup finishes? Its madness.

I have no problem with either of the winning bids - both were very strong bids.

Sounds like England came last, the only reason can be that we were downgraded due to the harmful actions of our media - they are the ones to blame here.

Well, tbf Rood, neither were actually good bids...Russia's actual presentation was horrendous and it's bid depended on them building an entire infrastructure from scratch....Qatar has some nifty expensive ideas, but again, in terms of bankable solid stuff and not just "hope and dreams", both bids were very weak....Weather, accessibility, stadia, infrastructure, you name it, everything was against both of them.

Once again, football is no longer about football. Or fans. Blatter wants to make it his personal crusade to be the one that takes it to new places, which is nobel, but he's spitting in the faces of those who line his pockets and the fans who will actually go....and the players who'll actually play! There needs to be some redress between all these new places. It'll be 20 years before it's in a European stronghold again...I'm sorry, I may be being biased, but that's ridiculous considering Europe is the central hub of football. What the feck has Qatar done to possibly deserve this aside from having a lot of money? It's not about giving to whomever has the best ideas, it's about taking into consideration the fans, players and ...well, you know..the football!

Its the right result for football to take the games most prestigious tournament to new frontiers. Delighted for Qatar and the Middle East who will present football in a totally new way and just as Brazil, China and India have hosted major world events in the past few years, so Russia as one of the new major world economies deserves to have its chance.

The 'old' democratic nations of the 20th Century will have to accept that there time was last century and that this one belongs for new nations to have the chance to show off their cultures and capabilities.

But FIFA has a duty to promote football everywhere and so to award its premier tournament new countries who wll now have the excuse to enhance their footballing capabilities and infrastructure can only be good news for the game. I think FIFA got it right.

Tragedy for England but then again, we are a completely second rate footballing country who just so happens to have the fortune of having a strong economy and so can host one of the richest leagues.

If England were punished because of their media, then I think thats also good. "Freedom of speech" for the sake of it is a totally flawed and destructive concept - Panorama's accusations (of events from a decade ago!) have turned out to be baseless of evidence. And so our Governments inability to stop the BBC from broadcasting these views has proven to be there undoing. The world is changing quickly and until those on these shores realise that there way is not the only way, future humiliations on the global stage await.

There wasn't only 22 committee members voting this afternoon for nothing you know. Do we blame the media for the corruption?

No we blame them for derailing our very strong bid for purely selfish reasons.
We spent a lot of time and money on a great bid and we were well placed to goto head to head with Russia in the final vote. All pissed away at the last minute by a couple of pointless media exposes which will do nothing to eliminate corruption.

 Native in backing his homeland shocker!!!

Adrian Durham in melodramatic, attention-seeking bullshit!!!

The Taliban would be better governors of the beautiful game than this shady lot.

that's what I was wondering. it's all well and good to build the stuff for the WC but what then?

At least USA has a good shot at 2026 since Africa, South America, Europe, and Asia will have hosted the four previous World Cups.

I can't believe a country smaller than the one I live in has a World Cup. I mean, what are they going to do with all the stadiums they're going to build when the World Cup finishes? Its madness.

Deconstruct them, ship them to poorer nations and rebuild them there. It was one of the finest parts of their bid.

people are giving way too much importance to how the different presentations looked but by the time they were made the votes were already decided i doubt anyone changed their minds based on the presentations.

Right then, I hope they have big tv's in the cells.

I imagine they will have to make exceptions for the World Cup. If they don't, fans will be outraged and very few people will bother turning up.

Either way, it's going to be a disaster.

Just what a poor nation needs a football stadium.

What a load of cock.

Panorama was very crudely done but can there be any problems with what the Sunday Times did?

Also where has all of our money gone, or more specifically into who's pocket...

I hope no United players attend the Qatar WC. Playing in that heat will completely screw them up for a few weeks.

Boris Johnson gives the strongest hints yet that the English Bid Team are thinking the same that we are.

FFS you WILL be able to drink yourselves silly in Qatar, you'd be able to do most the things you expect to do in a world cup, its not Saudi Arabia.

The real issues are the weather and the size.

Personally I see Russia as being more impractical due to its open racism and crime, the weather isn't exactly perfect either.

What there is a Nobel prize for being the worlds biggest wanker? :D

Rubbish.

FIFA hardly help themselves - bids should be about whose is technically best. If FIFA are accused of corruption they shouldnt get away with closing ranks and getting 'revenge' by not voting for a countrys bid when their media investigates possible corruption. Any self respecting organisation would look to continue that investigation and cast out any they find who have been corrupt. That FIFA positively rejects such investigation says everything about them.

They are utter cnuts. It's perverse that we blame the media for exposing them as cnuts simply because we cant allow FIFAs toxic feathers to be ruffled.

Great post - I agree with it all. Unfortunately will probably get lost amongst a barrage of bollocks from us losers !

TheBig_Sam

Qatar? Holding a World fecking Cup? They probably play the beautiful game on fecking elephants. What an outrage.

Prince Williams, to pay for the krystal on his stag do.

By the way whenever China decides to make a bid its useless for any other country to run against them, its a given that they will win when they choose to make a bid(when the WC goes to ASia again of course).

So what are Russia and Qatar? Russia might be 3rd rate at best. Qatar doesn't even register in terms of football. I'm glad FIFA decided to "bring football" to an astounding 1.6m people. Maybe the Vatican should go for it next time since they don't have any stadiums, no football history or culture, and lots of money.

You also think it's great for a country to be punished for pointing out corruption within FIFA? Maybe FIFA should take it as a hint to sort itself out rather than saying "NO! You can't do this to us! No World Cup for you!"
