World Cup 2018 Qualifiers

We had a decent 10 minutes, rest of the time we've been chasing ghosts. Which is exactly what i expected would happen when Julen decided to play with the false 9
Playing with 4-2-4 doesn't also help. Too much space in the middle.

Spain has players that can't even make their squad better than anyone we have. Literally light years ahead.

It was only natural as we're playing on the Bernaéu. Very good game so far, two goals by Isco and Piqué gets booed the hell out of him.

Isco head and shoulders above everybody else on the pitch btw, and not just because of the goals. He was crap for madrid against valencia(though in fairness, apparently he was ill)

No, italy is underwhelming, put verratti on the other side and he'd be having a great game

Italy have been decent with Belotti and that left side of Spinazzola & Insigne but Verratti has been anonymous in central midfield - he's been unable to link in attack or close down between the lines in defense. These used to be his strengths but he's looked sloppy, too many cigs?

Why are Spain insisting on playing without a striker when they have two good forwards available these days in Asensio and Morata? It kind of made sense in 2012 when Torres was out of form and their midfielders were all great but it is strange now (I know they are winning).

Poor half from Italy, looked decent for a spell of 10 minutes.
This new look 424, a highish back line and still trying to pass out of the back isn't working, especially against Spain's pressing.

Don't understand why we're playing this formation and style when the back 3 + midfield 3 has always worked well, especially against Spain's who were always going to out number us in midfield.

Disappointing half.

Spain were dire post euros when they played us last year. A year later, lopetegui has figured out whi needed the chop(cesc), who to play and how, and isco exploded, and now they have Asensio as well.

Incredible job at youth level to produce so much talent

Nobody moves. That's the problem. He gets the ball, looks up, and the 3 nearest players all wear red

Yeah, they have found a new golden generation.

Why not? If they have players with technical level and decision making who interchange and know how to create what is the problem?

Because we're very good at playing against pure CFs, but we can't cope with a bunch of mobile midfielders popping up everywhere all the time. It was the right tactical choice by Lopetegui, and it showed. When they play against the likes of Albania or Israel, Morata will play

That's down to tactical setup too - he's alone but even in possession or closing down he's looked off to me. He should watch some film of Gatusso and regain that pitbull approach to the game. He's a player who can and has to play better, be more of an influence in the match

I still cringe a bit watching Lopetegui on Spain's bench but this spanish team looks good. They probably have the best squad out of all national teams so it might have something to do with that too

No wonder there is no need for Real to buy in the market.

The squad was brilliant as it is and now Asensio emerging and Isco looking more and more like a world class player.

He's a midfield controller, his game relies on his teammates movement. Defensively, there's not much he can do when he's consistently outnumbered and his constantly trying to recover. Our tactical setup is just plain wrong for this game with this players

Make no mistake he's a big reason why they dominated us the first half

This.

Not saying Lopetegui was the last Coca Cola on the Desert, but a lot of critics he received on the media were basically done by a bunch of journos who are basically crap and know nothing about football.

This and the fact he didn't coached Benfica tbh. :D

God, I love Isco. That and the fact we have Asensio and a few others makes me confident we could do something again on the biggest stage.

After Del Bosque, it had to be Lopetgui - his NT teams have consistently played high level football. And just having better talent alone does not translate to success, coaching & tactics is all too often written off as key but it is just that
